Easy fix … if you leave scouting on, you just spend the league average on it to be fair.

yes, but the incentive to spend more to improve your organization is now gone...as is the need to even hire a scouting director...While I like the consistancy of 100% accurate ratings, I like the challenge of scouting also. I just wish they could fix the problem with inconsistent reports.

My point is... "I find the AI to be more competitive with these settings and 100% accuracy on scouting." The AI is often stuck with a lousy scout and/or unwilling or unable to spend enough money on scouting. So I hire a scout and pay the average budget in order to even the financial scales with the AI and give it the same look at the players that I get.

I am not looking to spend more to improve my organization vs. the AI. I am looking to make the AI more competitive to get some challenge into the game. Your approach may be different and that's fine.

FWIW, I've rationalized turning scouting off by explaining to myself that Talent Change Randomness (TCR) negates any advantage (or disadvantage) I would get through scouting. Essentially, it doesn't matter how good or bad my scout is...TCR impacts how likely a player will reach or exceed their original potential anyway.

This is the closest I've managed to get the graph after simming some 500+ seasons. Why they are so extreme, I don't know. But this is what makes the graph work at least in the league configuration that I run.

Batters age: .200
Batters dev: 1.300

Pitchers age: 2.000
Pitchers dev: 2.000
Do you know how these would work without feeders?

I don't have it checked as I like to see their rating based on the position. Sometimes I'll assign the player to different positions to see how the ratings change.

Now that I'm typing this - I'm not sure I'll keep it unchecked. I tend to look heavy at defense potential anyway so I'm not sure I'm learning much - and possibly losing something - by comparing to position specific.

Other peoples experience?

I use it. I kind of like seeing RPs consistently rated lower than other players because if you think about it, outside of the elite closers and 'stoppers', RPs are pitchers not good enough to be SPs but have enough stuff to hang around an organization.
using that option seems to help AI with salary too...though I honestly have no proof of that...just my eyeball gut feel.

I use it to downgrade the relievers and prevent outfielders from changing ratings when they change positions. I suspect that it helps the AI too, but I don’t have any evidence to support that.

Do you all use it in conjunction with relative or absolute ratings?

I used to not check it and did the shifting of positions to see how ratings changed. I do now, though, primarily because I did not like the RP ratings relative to other players. How many RP’s legitimately rate as an 80 in MLB versus the entirety of major league players? 2-4 maybe? Yes, a Kimbrel or Jansen or Chapman can be of relative importance to winning an equal to a start SP or batter, but there are very few of those guys. I like seeing RP’s more appropriately valued as a lot of 35-65 guys, with a few above that.

Do y'all use the same settings regardless of league type (fiction vs real)?
