“Special new game mode”

In Markus’ blog interview, he mentions a “special new game
Mode shortly after release.” Is this the perfect team/trading cards feature or something completely different? Any hints???

If you read the FAQ that Markus posted, it will be similar to the EA Ultimate Team modes and MLB The Show Diamond Dynasty.

I hope this mode is at least playable at some basic level without the need to spend money on micro transaction nonsense. I know the point of this addition is to bring in extra revenue and development time on the main game isn’t being sacrificed to make it, but it’d still be nice to get some use out of the new mode without turning into a pure cash grab.

That is the concept behind it. You can spend some money if you want to, but you can definitely be successful and enjoy the mode without using the microtransactions.

I like the idea of trading cards (opening packs) but I am not a online/multiplayer gamer. Too bad the card feature is not also available in a solo player mode.

Is that a given? You will not be able to play this in a solo player mode?

Fair point. From what I read, it appears that this was a multi-player feature though I sure hope I am wrong. Hopefully someone with knowledge chimes in.

Thats good to know. I don't fault you guys for trying to bring in some extra revenue, it's just the micro transaction thing isn't my cup of tea.

It's a multi-player feature, but there's no real need to interact a lot with other players. So other than the fact that your team will be in a league with teams of other players, to all intents and purposes you'll just be able to treat it like a solo game and just do your own thing if that's what you want.

Thank you for the clarification.

Im curious, what will the game settings be for this? Will you have to warm up relief pitchers? Are you forced to watch the 3D stuff? About how long will the games last? I love the ultimate team modes so I am very curious about this mode,

I’m pro new feature “cash grabs”. It doesn’t affect me, I can still play the game the way I want. And it gives more money to the OOTP guys, which means the overall game improves more each year!

Great news with the microtransactions! I'm not a fan of it but it can bring a lot of cash to OOTP developments, meaning a bigger budget to make this game even better

Will we be able to join Leagues that have people we know in them like the Guilds for Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes? Would love to be in a league say of just White Sox fans or a League of just OOTP HOFers, etc.

We'll have an option that you can be "friends" with other users and the league alignment AI will try to put friends in the same league, yes

Games are simulated on our server, there is no head-to-head play yet, that will happen sometime in the future. For the simulated games you will be able to afterwards watch entire replays or highlight reels

OOTP going into micro-transactions is somewhat concerning. I would hate to see this game go down the rabbit hole so many other games have disappeared into. I suppose only time will tell if they can resist the temptation of large returns for minimal output that has seduced many other developers.

So, micro-transactions are coming to OOTP? I never thought I would see the day.

There are so many things that need improvement in this game and this is what they decide to spend development time on? I hope it works because they've lost a purchase from me and likely future purchases. I've bought every version even when I knew I would barely play it because I wanted to support the game. Not doing that now with this selling out to this micro-transaction bull crap.

I wouldn't be too worried about it eborix. I think OOTPD will continue to bring us a great game.
