Reason Why Contracts Aren't Official?
Does anyone know why there's the note when you start that says that contracts are not official? Is that for some sort of legal reason, like you'd need a license from the MLBPA to use real numbers?
Obviously contracts are so complex these days it would be difficult to program all the clauses, but with certain players having more than 10 year contracts, and certain players having huge deferments of bonuses beyond the contract, I feel like it's important to have accuracy. |

I think it’s also a bit of legalese - basically telling the player that the numbers/structures in the game aren’t exact, but close approximations as can be done within the game mechanics. Union probably insisted on it as part of the licensing.

The salaries are correct. They are just legally obligated to tell you that they might not be, who knows, never truly official, wink wink.

this is private information. just as i can't look up your name and contact your employer to find out how much you specifically make.. i can probably get figures on your job classification within that company but nothing specific to a person.
mlb teams are also private companies. they don't have to share anything with the public about their finances. if they are publicly traded, like green bay packers, that may be different. i don't think that exists in the MLB at moment? if a public company, you have to follow those rules laid out. your financial documents are accessible and reviewable etc... still can't get specific info on 1 employee's personal information like salary. it's always "as reported" when they give that info on ESPN or in a newspaper. plus all the other stuff that wingedlion touches on too. you will usually see multiple estimates of team payrolls depending on source. Something else to consider is that the salaries are structured within the financial engine to make the game work because the game doesn't make you pay for most of the real expenses a team has in terms of transportation, healthcare, staff, etc..
