Contract Maximum Limit Exceeded?
Can someone explain how to get over this roadblock or direct me to the manual section that deals with it? It won't let me proceed with the game.

What league and team are you playing with? Haven't seen that message in quite a while, it usually means you need to release a few players to get under the maximum number of contracts you're allowed in the league (50 for the NHL, varies for other leagues.) If you're at a point in the season where you can't buy out/release anyone, editing a player/players off your team using commissioner mode will work.

Sorry, I should have mentioned it. I'm playing the 1950 Montreal Canadiens and I get that message a few days into the start.

Ah, OK, that'll happen in some historical years, particularly in the original 6 era, when the player pool gets very full. It looks like buyouts are disabled in 1950, for some reason, though, which is odd, I'll have to fix that. For now, if you turn commissioner mode on in manager options, pick your worst guys, and edit them to free agents, that'll get you back under the limit.
