Billy Joe Moore
Billy Joe Moore was a first baseman with the Birmingham Black Barons in 1955.
This photo of Moore appeared in the St. Joseph (MO) Gazette of June 3, 1954. At that time, he had just been released from the Oklahoma penitentiary, where he had served time for seven years for burglary. He was described as a 24-year-old slugging first baseman, who was 6-2 in height and weighed 220 pounds. He had signed a Class C Yankee contract, but was headed for the Grand Forks (ND) independent team, i.e. not affiliated with the Yankees. Baseball-reference.com shows him as William Joe Moore, with just that one minor league season with Grand Forks. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=moore-014wil |

Ismael Morales
Ismael "Mule" Morales was an outfielder with the Cuban Stars in 1932. He is shown here with the Havana winter league team in a photo from the Milwaukee Journal of Nov. 2, 1932. At that time, the newspapers were reporting that it was expected that he would get a tryout with the Washington Senators the following spring. He may be the same Ismael Morales who appears in Baseball-reference.com as a minor leaguer a few years later, also as an outfielder:

Sack Morgan
William "Sack" Morgan was a pitcher with the Memphis Red Sox, Baltimore Elite Giants, and Birmingham Black Barons during the 1945-49 period. He is shown here as a hitter in the Alabama Tribune (Montgomery, AL) of Sept. 9, 1960. The caption indicates that he was a leading hitter for the Atlanta team at the time, though the cap appears to be a Memphis one instead.

Willie Neal
According to the book, THE NEGRO LEAGUES BOOK, by Dick Clark and Larry Lester, Willie Neal was an infielder with the 1952 Memphis Red Sox. The attached photo shows a Willie Neal with the Pocatello Bannocks. The photo is from the Idaho State Journal of April 20, 1954.
The following is the logic I used in concluding that they are the same Willie Neal. The Carroll (IA) Times Herald of June 26, 1952 indicated that a Willie Neal, a pitcher/outfielder, had just reported to the Wall Lake Kernels, "an all-Negro club." The timing of this reporting fits well with Willie Neal's brief experience in the Negro Leagues. Baseball-reference.com lists a minor leaguer Willie Neal who was with Pocatello in 1954 as well as with some additional minor league teams during the 1955-57 period. That Willie Neal was a pitcher/outfielder. This all seems to fit well. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=neal--004wil |

James Portier was a catcher with the Indianapolis Clowns in 1954 and 1955. He was named to the 1954 East-West Negro Leagues All-Star Game. He entered the Negro Leagues at age 16 after being pursued by major league scouts.
The photo shows him in 2019 wearing the jersey of the Milwaukee Bears before a Pittsburgh Pirates/Milwaukee Brewers game at Miller Park in Milwaukee. It is a Getty image. Last edited by Cusick; 11-08-2019 at 04:28 PM. |

Morris Williams
Morris Williams was a pitcher with the Indianapolis ABC's in 1920 and 1921, but there has been no photo of him posted on this thread previously. The image is from the 1923 Washington Potomacs team photo as displayed on the swanngalleries.com website in 2017. The identification was done by Gary Ashwill via Worthpoint and Swann Galleries. The team photo was dated May 10, 1923, which was the beginning of the Potomacs' season. Since Williams is not listed with the Potomacs in the basic Negro League references, my assumption is that he didn't last much longer with the team.
