How Many Trades Do You Make ?

I have been wondering this this for some time. How many trades do you make in a season? I like to strip a team down and rebuild. I will trade contracts for expiring contracts, package players to get rid of big contracts/ unproductive players. I like to make it so that when I start my second year, I am below my budget (to be able to sign FAs). What is your trading strategy?

I make trades as needed. Last season I made probably 10 different moves, my starting 3B, LF & SS all were injured for more then 3 months and since my minors were terrible I traded for several players 2 of which had great years for me and are still with my team this season. The other wanted too much money so I let him walk. This year I have yet to make a trade but I have a 5 game lead 2 weeks before the ASG.

I tend to let at least a half season play out before I make any significant trades... especially if I am starting with a blank slate and not running any sim seasons to build a history. Sometimes guys that you think will be bums end up developing, the vets you think will be washed up will have 1-2 years left in the tank, that young stud pitcher at the top of your rotation is actually a 3rd starter at best, etc... So usually with freshly created fictional teams, it's not until the 2nd season trade deadline until I'm 100% sure if I want to tweak what I have or scrap it and rebuild.

I normally make trades three times a year.

1: Near the end of spring training as needed for my roster.
2: At the beginning of July, I'll see if I can trade expiring contracts if I'm not in the race.
3: After the season, I'll try to trade arbitration eligible players I don't plan on keeping.

How many trades that equals per year varies considerably.

I tend to do most of my trades during the offseason, occasionally to unload contracts but usually looking to turn redundancies into benefits (e.g. I had a 3B prospect go from nobody to asset overnight, but my incumbent third baseman is a 23 year old all star).

I'll also occasionally make trades in July, usually looking to add a bat.

Last off season, I made a really hard trade-- I had signed my closer, Raul Mendoza, to a four year extension, but due to struggles (ERA > 7) and his setup man being devastating (1 ER in his first 22 innings), he lost his job. Despite having three years left on his contract, Mendoza became expendable and as a middle reliever, not worth what I was supposed to pay him. I ended up dealing him for a single A level reliever (with a remarkably similar profile) and a backup catcher.

Zero.
I turn trading off. I like it when players stay with teams for a long time. Like the old en days.
