Leave Assistant GM Vacant?

I read through what I can find in discussion of previous versions of OOTP regarding having an Asst. GM, but wanted to make sure nothing has changed with the 21 edition.

If I am controlling everything myself, is there a reason to pay for an Asst. GM? Should I just leave the position unfilled and save the money?

Since I am new to the game, I am enjoying being a micro-manager in a historical sim as it helps me see quickly bad decisions that I have made. As such, I am controlling everything in the majors and minors, and the Asst. GM does nothing but collect a paycheck.

Well, my current Asst GM does message me with "insightful" suggestions like: "There is a young guy named Barry Bonds playing in Class A for this other organization. We should try to acquire him to improve our outfield and offense."

I should go into the editor and change the Asst.'s name to "Captain Obvious" or "Sgt. Self-Evident."

My assistant GM controls minor league promotion/demotion of some prospects and also hires minor league coaches so I hire one just for that.

I like to hire someone young and cheap with no reputation, but has similar preferences as mine in terms of preferring OBP vs AVG, pitching vs hitting, ability vs tools, etc. Then kind of 'grooming' them.

I leave it vacant because I control everything myself so there's no need for me to use the budget room on a guy just for him to tell me he doesn't like my trades.
