Mel Hall
Just found this on ESPN, I remember the HR he hit to beat the Red Sox on Memorial day many years ago. That was the game John Sterling gave birth to his now famous "Yankees Win, THHHHHEEEEEE Yankees Win."

Yeah, I remember when 'The Gunslinger' played for the Indians too. The only thing I remember was that he named his glove. Sad and troubling story.

I remember when he came up with the Cubs and used to have like 3 pairs of batting gloves in his back pockets. They'd be flapping around when he would trot around the bases. He said that way he could wave bye-bye to the pitcher and catcher.

The only thing I know about Mel Hall is his 1984 Topps card:
At the store where I work we have like 200 of the same card. I have no idea why so many 1984 Topps Mel Hall cards. |

My sophomore year of high school my dad gave everyone on the JV basketball team a nickname. Mine was "Mel Hall." My dad explained that I was a decent player, but more concerned with stlying out than playing hard.
I think I verified the monicker when I took that explanation as a compliment. |

I remember Hall's crappy treatment of a young teammate named Bernie Williams who apparently was too quiet, intelligent, and introspective for Hall's tastes.
