Promotion as GM/Coach
So I have been managing QMJHL teams for about 4 seasons now and I am trying to figure out how to improve my profile from Unknown to even Regionally known. I have a winning record in all 4 seasons and 1 QMJHL championship and finished 2nd in the memorial cup. I screwed up that year and did not accept the contract offer, thinking something better was out there and then resigned before July so I got no score for the championship season ????
Do the big leagues ever come calling and make an offer or do you have to not be affiliated with a team to get an offer? Also, my contract offers have gone down every year which doesn't make sense. Just trying to figure this out. Thanks! Last edited by jayman49; 01-04-2019 at 04:56 PM. |

I’m interested in this post as well.....I have a redwings franchise that I started as the gm but was thinking of starting another as a gm with no reputation and working my way up to NHL...

Also fascinated. I started as GM of the Halifax Mooseheads hoping to win my way into the NHL, hoping this is possible.

You're a lot more likely to get hired while unemployed; if you have a job, you won't get offers on positions that open up during the season, which will tend to be the majority of openings.

But if I follow the available jobs section, would I be able to apply? If so, do I have any chance of being hired?

If a human candidate isn't involved, the AI will normally fill the vacancy immediately, so it won't show up in available jobs.

So if I let my contract expire, will I be offered new jobs before the upcoming season?

So if your goal is career advancement, you have to start as a 25 year old, win some championships hopefully to build your reputation quicker, but ultimately you are spending 10-15 seasons as a GM/coach or GM in a league lower than the NHL or KHL, then quit with the hope that when a job opens up it is offered to you.

This seems like a potential improvement to the game. You should be offered jobs while still an active GM during the off-season if it’s a GM position in a higher league....
