Yakanglers fall in game 6 to the Nj Rasslers, 3-0. Vida Blue out-dueled Brecheen for the win.

Was still a great season for the YakAnglers, we just can't get over the hump.

P440 Wrap-up: Mantle and Rube and One for the Thumb, Dude (sorry)

Although it was a team effort, as every championship is, in the end, the story of the 2051 P440 champion Huntley Red Raiders is really the story of 2 standout individuals.

NC Pitcher of the Year Rube Waddell capped off his award-winning year in true 2051 fashion by putting up a 1.02 ERA in 5 playoff starts that featured 3 wins, a loss in which he pitched 8.0 innings and gave up 1 run, and a no-decision that saw him throw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Ironically, it was his "worst" playoff start (6.0 innings, 2 runs) that clinched the fifth Perfect League championship for the Red Raiders, as his offense finally brought the lumber and backed him with...3 whole runs. But it was enough.

LF Mickey Mantle was awarded his first NC MVP in unanimous fashion, a fitting end to a stellar campaign that saw him put up the following monthly OPSs: 1.031, 1.049, 1.056, .966 (slacker), .999, .998. With the surprising struggles of 2050 MVP Arky Vaughan (.259/.348/.392, 104 OPS+, 3.0 WAR) and fellow 2050 Platinum Stick winner George Brett (.255/.310/.405, 95 OPS+, 2.3 WAR), Mantle was the straw that stirred a Huntley offense that scored its second-most runs ever (1.030).

In addition, Eric Gagne (32 saves, 1.63 ERA, 265 ERA+, 2.3 WAR) won his second straight Reliever of the Year Award, and C Yogi Berra (.332/.413/.520, 158 wRC+, 5.0 WAR), 1B Norm Cash (.299/.386/.534, 29 HR, 152 wRC+, 4.9 WAR), and SS Luke Appling (.304/.389/.422, 128 wRC+, 4.7 WAR) joined LF Mantle as Platinum Stick Award winners.

Congrats to all 2051 champions, and good luck to everyone in 2052, aka, The Year That Tournaments Turned Perfect Team Upside-down!

I survived the trek to Diamond. As a consolation Cy Young won Pitcher of the Year for his 3rd.

Garry Maddox won his 13th gold glove. But Ty Cobb beat out Rocky Colavito for a silver slugger award in LF despite slugging 100 points lower. This is ****ing stupid.

Despite bowing out in the Division Series, the Frogs (126-36) had a very lucrative 2051. The team raked in 30K PP in achievements (which is probably a team best). The team also set franchise records in OBP (.367), batting WAR (41.9), wOBA (.356), HR (163), FIP (2.83), and pitching WAR (52.0). The squad just missed tying franchise records in runs scored and pitching K's by one a piece.

*SE Harry Brecheen and Stan Coveleski both tossed no-hitters. Coveleski (19-9, 2.63 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 236 IP, 9.1 WAR, 0.2 HR/9, 1.5 BB/9) led the conference in several categories, but came in a distant 4th in Pitcher of the Year.

*SE John Smoltz (14-1, 20 SV, 1.19 ERA, 136 IP, 4.7 WAR) bagged NC Reliever of the Year, his 4th overall and 3rd in a row.

*100 Barry Bonds (.288/.405/.574/.979, 40 HR, 134 RBI, 17 SB, 5.9 WAR, 156 wRC+) won 'Great Bat' in LF, came in 2nd in the MVP vote, set a franchise record in HR, and led the conference in several stats.

*Ed Walsh (20-6, 2.84 ERA, 237.2 IP, 7.7 WAR) surpassed 20 wins for the 5th straight week and topped 7 WAR for the 8th straight week.

**Congrats to the San Dimas Wyld Stallyns on winning PL title #4 in P457. Both the Wyld Stallyns and IB Breakers went from Wild Card team to PL championship series. I think this is the 2nd week I can remember watching the Wyld Stallyns absolutely march through the playoffs as somewhat of an underdog. The Fort Lee Christies won 116 games and are approaching 30 playoff berths with no titles. I was kinda hoping it would be their week if not mine, but the IB Breakers took them out as well.

Its just a shame that the 5 highest rated players on their active roster now are Live Lindor (100), Live Betts (96), Live Rizzo (89), 88 OVR Pudge Rodriguez, and... 50 OVR Live Terrance Gore? Everyone else on their roster is 48 OVR or below.

Thanks for the free promotion, I guess. Late Edit: Also, thanks for the massive influx of PP, including 7310 points from the 3rd and final game of the series.
The Creepers went on to win the S317 World Series!

Fun little side note, Korea Coast Guard won 7 Great Bats (1B SE Sisler, 2B SE Appling, 3B Live Rendon, SS 90 OVR Ozzie Smith, LF Live Yelich, CF Live Trout, RF Live Bellinger), Best Reliever (Live Scherzer), Pitcher of the Year (96 OVR Glavine), and MVP (SE Sisler). None of these players were active for our playoff series

Belfast did it. Now to retire or not is the question? It's been a long way since 2019.

In the 2nd game, DiMaggio hits a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th and in the 3rd game, Ripken hits a walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th. 3 straight walk-off victories for the WhoDats...

We're 38-16 .704, but are only 4-10 in 1-run games. Overall, the bullpen is doing really well so it just looks like bad luck at this point. Speaking of luck, we obviously got lucky with respect to division placement. I'd hate to be in the NC West. Speaking of which, I'm hoping for some revenge against the Texans. They kept beating us in those 2 seasons we were in the whale league together, although many of those wins were really close ones.
The WhoDats seem to specialize in being the better team whether by 30 runs, 1 run in extra innings or against himself. So...Nice Job.

Btw, the Rebs' roster is on page one. I merely swapped out Syndergaard for Glasnow this year. Look at them and then vote "yikes" if you think they deserve being in Perfect...
Yikes.
