The Blue Jays are in 3rd place 7 games back of the Detroit Tigers who are off to a ridiculous hot start at 31-15!

We've had a few bumps and bruises as usual to start the season (Gantner, Buckner, Molitor) all missing time.

Our team this year is pretty balanced between hitting and pitching so I feel I can make a run at the Tigers. My issue is going to be resigning Gorman Thomas - He wants a ton of money over many years and that is just not going to happen with the Jays. I might be able to move him for something good we will see.

We have reached the 1981 Amateur draft and the Blue Jays didn't have much to grab with the #27 overall pick in R1 :-(

Lets look at the results!

I had to grab Kevin Bass in R1 - I just loved watching the Astros in the 80s' and despite playing in the Astrodome Kevin was a good hitter and fielder. In R2 I went to the evil Red Sox 2B Marty Barrett. In R3 - I went for a good bat that could help me this year in 1981 - Gene Roof. R4 I took the light hitting and slick glove of Buddy Biancalana (Jays fan remembering 1985 here) and then Lee Tunnell is a fairly nice pick up in R5 as he will have a decent chance to make the team in 1982. Boris rounds out R6 and the draft for the Jays.

OK - Owner wants me to resign Gorman Thomas but, I don't have the funds so I shopped him around and was able to land a REAL LIFE city fav in George Bell (watch out Bruce Kison!) & pretty happy landing solid OBPCT specialist Toby Harrah too!

See trade details below.

Toronto has just reached the INT FA period and we sit 10 games back of the Detroit Tigers in the AL East. Detroit got out of the gate really fast. After our trade of Gorman Thomas we definitely are planning for the longer term than trying to win it this year. We are starting to face budget concerns and our owner goals are going to be miserable.

Our best player BY FAR is Fernando Valenzuela SP - he is simply amazing this season and I have hopes he can deliver an AL Cy Young award for the Jays.

It's cool to have Stieb and Valenzuela on the same team. Maybe you'll be able to avoid burning out their arms the way it happened in real life. Though Stieb's not pitching well for you this year.

Yes I agree. I have some great players in my reserved roster too. I will post a snap shot of my team soon.

Stieb had one of the best sliders in all of MLB during his time. Who can forget Fernandos screwball. So cool to have them both on my team!

Thanks for following. If you want to see any specific stats of players or teams just ask.

Since you've got Stieb and Bell, are you going to try and get Barfield, Moseby and Tony Fernandez so you have the core of the first great Blue Jay teams.? Maybe Jimmy Key too?

Recently, a friend of mine decided to play the 1988 Blue Jays and I was struck by how fast that group of players went downhill. You'd have thought at least one of them would make the Hall of Fame, but the only ones who played much into their thirties were Key and Fernandez. And I thought Tony was never quite the same as a hitter after he got hit in the face by a pitch, though I guess he had a bit of a career revival when he went back to Toronto in the late 90's.

Just checked Key's career though and his final numbers are better than I thought.
