Founded in 1911, the Toronto Blueshirts were a member of the NHA. The Blueshirts won the Stanley Cup in 1914. When the PCHA's Lester Patrick raided the NHA to stock their new formed Seattle Metropolitans, controversial Toronto Shamrocks owner Eddie Livingstone purchased the Blueshirts. He, in turn, raided the Shamrocks roster to ice his new team, allowing the former to go dormant (similar to the Cleveland Spiders/St. Louis Browns situation in 1899). Constantly at odds with Livingstone and having no legal course of action to remove him, the other four owners of the NHA withdrew their franchises in 1917 to form the NHL without Livingstone. In an ironic twist, players from the Blueshirts were loaned to the NHL to make up a temporary Toronto team. That team would win the 1917-18 Stanley Cup before being disbanded.

Founded on December 3, 1903, the Montreal Wanderers were one of the more successful hockey teams prior to the start of the NHL. The team won the Stanley Cup four times and successfully defended it against challengers six times (Prior to the formation of the PCHA, WCHL, and NHL, the Stanley Cup was an amateur trophy that could be challenged for at any time during the season as long as the clubs agreed).After joining and winning the NHA championship in 1910, the team's success waned. A founding member of the NHL, the Wanderers were forced to disband when their arena burned down four games into the 1917-18 season. They were replaced by the Toronto Hockey Club.

Officially started as a temporary franchise with NHA Toronto Blueshirt players in 1917, the Toronto Arenas were granted permanent franchise status for the 1918-19 season. They were owned by the Toronto Arena Company (hence the name) but would be sold and re-branded at season's end. This team was the forerunner of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

On December 13, 1919, the sale of the Toronto Arenas was approved by the NHL. On December 22, 1919 the renamed Toronto St. Patricks, or St. Pats as they are commonly known, were officially incorporated.The name comes from an amateur club the owners were associated with. The St. Pats won the 1922 Stanley Cup. After a long court battle with Eddie Livingstone, the team was sold in the middle of the 1926-27 season and renamed the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Founded in 1924 to appeal to Anglophone (English speaking) fans in Montreal, the Maroons were one of the highly competitive teams of the Founding Era. They won the Stanley Cup in 1926 & 1934 (the last non-Original Six* team to do so until the Philadelphia Flyers in 1974). Although highly successful, the team was hit hard by the Great Depression and suspended operations in 1938. The franchise, however, was officially cancelled in 1947 after numerous failed attempts to revive the team.

The Edmonton Flyers were an amateur club founded in 1940. After a hiatus due to WWII, the team went pro in 1951 joining the Pacific Coast Hockey League (renamed the Western Hockey League in 1952). A Detroit Red Wings affiliate during their time in the WHL, the Flyers won three league titles before folding in 1963.

The Saskatoon Quakers were founded in 1945, they were in the same amateur organization as the Edmonton Flyers. When the Flyers and Calgary Stampeders founded the PCHL, the Quakers joined as a founding member. After leaving the league for the 1956-57 season, the team rejoined under the Saskatoon/St. Paul Regals name, splitting their home games between the two cities. In 1958, they returned to the Quakers moniker but it was not enough. The team would fold at the end of the 1958-59 season.

These are great! Do you have plans to continue? I would love to do a fictional league based on the NHL and it looks like you've got everything needed to start, except the Canadiens.

With life and the pandemic hitting, I forgot about this thread. Now that hockey is back, I thought it would be time to continue this project with a team that I forgot about when I started...
