Day Ten. Joe's guy Ichinojo (Baby Huey) was impressive again today. Hakuhou keeps up his great escape routine.

Another rikishi impressing me this Basho is Aoiyama. Holy crap when he sets his mind he is not going to lose. The first 10 days were very impressive. I wonder if he is another one that is about as healthy as he can ever be and is showing how good he can be.

Day 12.
Tochinoshin is going to come down to the wire to get his kachikoshi (8 wins). I will hate seeing him lose his Ozeki rank https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKTybywViYo

Day 13. Will Hakuhou falter? Will Tochinoshin hang onto his Ozeki rank? Could Baby Huey actually take the Yusho? Is there anyone that will make a case for Yokozuna promotion this year?

Penultimate day. Tochinoshin still has a chance to save his rank, Hakuhou is the boss and Baby Huey needs some help to force a playoff tomorrow.

The final day of the March basho. Absolutely terrific final match betweeen the Yokozuna! My favorites, Tochinoshin and Mitekiumi had rough goes this month. Tochinoshin will drop to Sekiwaki rank and have one chance in May to salvage his Ozeki rank if he gets ten wins. Mitekiumi will probably drop to Maegashira 1 or 2 and re-start his climb up the ladder.

Really shocking to see Teranufuji losing a playoff four or five levels below the top. Seems like not that long ago when he was an Ozeki in a playoff for the Yusho.
That final match between the two Yokozuna was truly fantastic - if you only watch 30 seconds of sumo this year, make it those 30 seconds!

This was a great thread and great stuff. I don't think I have watched this much sumo since I was a kid and they would show it on ABC Wide World of Sports. Thank you!!

Curious to see how Ichinojo does in May. 14-1 is his best record ever and only the third time he has had double digits wins since January 2017. He will only turn 26 in April and his best sumo may be ahead of him if he stays healthy. My wife's favorite, Takakeisho, was promoted to Ozeki after 28 tournaments, the sixth fastest in Sumo history. At 22 years old, he is the 9th youngest to reach Ozeki status.

The trouble with Ichinojo though is that he seems to mentally check out at times. He was only Maegashira 4 this time. He'll be in the meat grinder this May. I bet he doesn't even make kachikoshi.

The May Basho is here already. Hakuho is out and Tochinoshin is looking like he is all the way back for now.

Day four highlights. Man, Tochinoshin looks determined. Four down, 6 wins to go for him to get his Ozeki rank back.

Day five is in the books.
Tochinoshin is back in full beast mode - love it. My other favorite, Mitekiumi is struggling and Joe's darling (Baby Huey) is getting bitten by that lack of attention that plagues him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V40ugHbD-n0

Ichinojo mentally checks out at the end but Tochinoshin is on fire at 6-0! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjOGz7PP60I

The english commentary version isn't being uploaded to youtube anymore (at least not that I can find). NHK has the Grand Sumo Highlights english commentary on their site (but not on youtube). They have been a day behind so I have only watched through day 4 so far. Have to avoid this thread to avoid spoilers.

Full match from the first day of my favorite Tochinoshin. Hoisting his 400 lb opponent up in the air.
