The St Louis Cardinals came storming to claim the top of the National League. All because of the Pirates hitting a road block by the names of Cincinnati and St Louis. In the American League, the Tigers moved to the top. The top batters in both leagues are jockeying for position with 4 that are batting over .400. Senators' Lefty Grove is off to one of the best seasons with his 9-1 record. Teammate Arky Vaughan blasts 6 hits in a single game. Bee's Babe Ruth hit his 550th home run. It has been the battle of wits in the National League with both St Louis and Pittsburgh beating up on the rest of the league. The Pirates went and won 16 games in a row while over in the American League, the Washington Senators won 10 straight to take over the top spot. There is a race in each league to see if a player can bat over .400 by the end of the season. Last month the National League was neck and neck with St Louis leading Pittsburgh by a single half game. This month saw the St Louis lead balloon to 5 games over the Pirates. Washington's lead over Boston is still holding at 3.5 games. Phillies' Ernie Lombardi is making a good go at being the only play to hit over .400 since Riggs Stephenson did the accomplishment in 1925, he hit .4094. A pitching duel was ongoing between Atheltics' Johhny Allen and Senators' Lefty Grove.The race was on to see which pitcher can win the most games and the lowest earned run average. Washington ace Lefty Grove bowed out of the race due to an elbow injury that will sideline him for 7 to 8 months. Rokie Bob Feller tosses a NO HITTER on August 30th, the first since Lon Warneke in May 1934. Earnie Lombardi is still in the running for a .400 batting average, only around 25 games remain.
