A Tumultuous May

So through June 1st, Bobby is now 0-2 with a 6.65 ERA. He has 28 strikeouts and 12 walks over 21.2 innings pitched, has saved 1 game and blown 1 save opportunity. His WAR is currently -0.7, but his rating as a reliever are now up to 77 (and he's a 63 as a starter...why the Orioles don't start him is beyond me, their best is a 44)

Hopefully Bobby rights the ship soon.

Okay, so I didn't notice until now, but Dorado has been activated and is playing for the Peoria Chiefs (A). Through 13 games, he is hitting an ABSURD slash line of .456/.458/.632 with 2 triples and 8 RBI. He should be in AA or AAA soon.

Meanwhile, Bobby has started some games now. Log to follow.

Bobby's Log Through July 1

June 4th- made SP debut against the Yankees. 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs (including 2 homers), 2 walks, 9 strikeouts. The Orioles won 6-4.

June 10th- at Mets. 5 innings, 8 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts. Went 0-2 at the plate. Orioles won 6-3.

June 15th- vs Red Sox. 8 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs (2 ER), 0 walks, 6 strikeouts. Orioles lost 3-2. Bobby took the loss.

June 21st- Bobby got his first win vs Marlins. 8 innings, 4 hits, 1 run (a HR), 1 walk, 8 strikeouts. Final score was 9-5 (yeah, that O's bullpen)

June 27th- at Braves. 5.2 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts. Went 1-2 at the plate. Orioles lost 2-1.

Bobby is now up to a 71 as a starter. Total, he is 1-3 with an ERA of 4.36.

Jesus has cooled off a little, but is still hitting .389/.404/.534 through 21 games in A ball. He has 4 triples but 0 home runs, 20 stolen bases (!), and 1.2 WAR. His overall rating is up to a 41 at the MLB level. He's also somehow playing second base, which I guess is where the organization wanted him. It's a letdown, but whatever.

Debut

Jesus Dorado made his MLB debut today against the Cubs in front of a raucous St. Louis crowd.

Batting first and playing at second base, the entire crowd gave him a standing ovation when he walked to the plate to lead off the first inning.

"It was unreal" Dorado said after the game. "I mean, I've played in front of crowds before, but nothing like this. It's just so humbling to think about what you and your talent means to the fans and the city and the team."

While Dorado did go 0-4 in the game, manager Mike Shildt said he was still impressed.

"He showed a lot of athleticism, patience, and speed out there" Shildt told reporters. "He's gonna be a good one."

The Cardinals lost 3-2.

I'm just going to do a log through the end of the year. Neither the Orioles or the Cardinals are anywhere close to playoffs, so it doesn't really matter.

September 1st- Bobby (vs Blue Jays)- 5 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts. Not his best outing, but the Orioles won 6-4 and Bobby got the W (5-6 on the year). Jesus went 1-4 against the Pirates with a stolen base and a strikeout. Cardinals won 3-1.

September 2nd- 2-4 with a run, and RBI, a walk, a strikeout, and THREE STOLEN BASES! However, St. Louis still lost 5-3.

September 4th- A doubleheader vs the Reds today. And in the first game, Dorado hit ANOTHER HOME RUN (a leadoff shot off of Luis Castillo). 1 of 2 hits for Dorado on the day, as he also got a stolen base. The Cards won 3-2. Stats and Ratings

Thought I would post Bobby and Jesus' season stats and updated ratings. Here you go.

That 9.3 ZR by Dorado is INSANE. He was also fourth in the league in stolen bases despite only playing in 59 games.

Spring Training

I didn't keep a log for spring training, but here were Jesus and Bobby's stats...

Dorado's 14 SB led the league.

According to the preseason predictions, Bobby will go 11-8 with a 3.19 ERA and 239 strikeouts, while Jesus will hit .321 with 17 HR, 82 RBI, and 119 (!!!!!!) stolen bases. The Cardinals' franchise record is 118 and the all-time record is 130. Can Dorado beat those?

May 31st- Bobby only went 4 innings vs the Yankees, but was great. 3 hits, 1 run (a homer), no walks, and 10 strikeouts. Orioles won 2-1 in 10 innings. Dorado went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts as the Cards lost to the Rockies 13-0.

So Jesus regressed a little, but is still hitting .323/.359/.466 with 3 HR, 26 RBI, 37 R, and 34 SB (still leads the league). He has a ZR of 5.7 and a 3.1 WAR. The Cardinals are 32-23, still leading the NL Central.

Bobby is 6-1 with a 2.34 ERA (1st in the AL). He is averaging 1.4 HR, 2.5 BB, and 12.5 K per 9 innings (that leads the league). He has 1.6 WAR. The Orioles are 31-23, just outside the playoffs.

June 30th- 1-4 with a run, 2 strikeouts, and a stolen base. Cardinals won 3-0.

So Dorado is hitting .317/.354/.457 right now, with 7 triples (leading the NL) and 6 home runs, 58 runs, and 39 RBI. He has 15 walks and 62 strikeouts. He has 58 stolen bases on 63 attempts (leading the league by a wide margin). His zone rating is an absurd +9.4, and he has racked up 4.6 WAR (leading the league). Fueled by the 21-game win streak, the Cardinals are 54-26, which is the best record in baseball.

Bobby is 9-1 with a 1.90 ERA (league leader) in 18 GS. He has 24 walks and 145 strikeouts (leads league) in 99.1 IP, and he has racked up 3.5 WAR (leads league). Log- July 2021

July 1st- 1-5 with a triple, a run, and a strikeout. Cardinals lost to the Brewers 4-2.

July 2nd- Bobby pitched 6.1 innings against Tampa. 3 hits, 0 runs, 4 walks, 6 strikeouts. Baltimore's 2-0 win gave Bobby his 10th of the season. Meanwhile, Dorado went 0-2 with a walk as the Cardinals won 4-0.

July 3rd- 1-4 with a run, a stolen base, and 2 strikeouts. Cardinals won 7-6.

July 4th- 2-5 with a 2-run homer, another run, a strikeout, and his 60th stolen base. Cardinals won 8-3.

July 5th- 2-4 with 2 doubles, a run, and a stolen base. St. Louis lost 12-2.

July 6th- Bobby only went 4 innings against the Marlins. 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Baltimore lost 5-1. Jesus went 1-4 with a run, a strikeout, and a stolen base. St. Louis lost to the Twins 7-3.

July 7th- Came into CF as a defensive sub. No at-bats. Cardinals won 9-5.

July 9th- 1-4 with 3 strikeouts. Cardinals lost to the Reds 4-2.

July 10th- 3-4 with 3 stolen bases. Cardinals won 2-1.

July 11th- Bobby went 5.1 innings against Cleveland, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs, while walking 1 and striking out 7. Orioles lost 9-6, but Bobby didn't get the loss. Dorado went 1-4 with a triple, an RBI, a run, a walk, and 2 stolen bases as the Cardinals won 6-3.

July 12th- 2-4 with a walk and a stolen base. Cardinals lost to Detroit 5-3.

July 13th- 1-5 with a run, 2 strikeouts, and a stolen base. Cardinals lost 6-4.

July 14th- 1-4 with a run and a stolen base (his 70th). Cardinals won 5-2.

July 15th- Bobby went 5 innings against the Yankees. He only gave up 2 hits, but one was a 3-run HR off the bat of Gary Sanchez. He walked 2 and struck out 11. The Orioles won 6-4, but Bobby didn't get the win.

July 16th- Jesus went 1-4 as the Cardinals lost to the Pirates 7-2.

July 17th- Bad news: Jesus went 0-5 with 2 strikeouts. Good news: both Jesus and Bobby were named starters for the All-Star Game. They might face each other!

July 20th- Jesus and Bobby faced off in the first inning...and JESUS HIT A LEADOFF HOME RUN!!!!!!!! I honestly did not expect that. Bobby only pitched in the 1st inning, giving up 1 more hit, a walk, and striking out 1. Jesus went 1-4 with 2 strikeouts. The AL won 4-3.

July 23rd- We're back today as Dorado went 2-4 with a triple, and RBI, a run, and a strikeout, helping the Cardinals beat the Cubs 4-3.

July 24th- 3-3 with a run, and RBI, a stolen base, and one time caught stealing. Cardinals won 4-1.

July 25th- 2-4 with a stolen base. Cardinals lost 4-1.

July 26th- Bobby pitched 5.1 innings against the Red Sox. 5 hits, 2 runs (including a solo HR), 1 walk, 8 strikeouts. Orioles lost 3-2 in 16 innings. Jesus went 2-3 with a triple and an RBI, as the Cardinals beat the Pirates 5-0.

July 27th- 0-4 with 2 strikeouts. Cardinals lost 3-1.

July 28th- 4-6 with a double, an RBI, a run, a strikeout, and a CS. Cardinals lost 8-7 in 11 innings.

July 29th- 2-4 with a run, 2 strikeouts, and a stolen base. Cardinals beat Philly 9-4.

July 31st- Bobby pitched against the White Sox today. 5 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts. Orioles won 7-6, but Bobby didn't get the win. Meanwhile, Jesus played in a doubleheader against the Phillies today. In the first game (a 2-1 win), he went 3-4 with an RBI, a strikeout, and a stolen base. In the second (a 3-2 win), he went 3-5 with a double, a triple, an RBI, a run, and a stolen base.

So Dorado's hot July pushed his slash line up to .336/.369/.484 (the AVG leads the league). He has 148 hits (leads league), including 12 triples (first in NL)and 7 home runs, plus 73 runs and 48 RBI. He has 19 walks to go along with 82 strikeouts, and he has 76 stolen bases (almost double anyone else in the league). His ZR is an absurd 12.5 (leads everyone but Andrelton Simmons), and he has accumulated 6.4 WAR (just behind Yelich for the league lead). The Cardinals are 68-37, second-best in baseball and firmly ahead of everyone else in their division.

Bobby is 10-1 with a 1.93 ERA (leads league). His 186 strikeouts and .93 WHIP both lead the league as well. He has 4.6 WAR (first among pitchers). The Orioles are 59-47, putting them in the first wild card slot.

So I think it's safe to say that both of these boys have established their dominance over the league, and neither is even 21 yet.

August 13th- 2-4 with a run, a walk, and a strikeout. The 10-7 win over Colorado pushed Dorado's hit streak to 15 games.

August 14th- 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Cardinals lost 6-2.

August 15th- 2-5 with an RBI double and a solo home run, plus a stolen base. Cardinals won 6-4. Dorado's hit streak is at 17, plus his multi-hit streak is at 7 (record is 13).

August 16th- 2-5 with a double, a 2-run home run, another run, and a strikeout. Cardinals beat the Tigers 8-2.

August 17th- Bobby got his second loss against the Phillies. 6 innings, 3 hits, but 2 were solo homers (by Bryce Harper and Cesar Hernandez) and the Orioles ended up losing 3-1. He walked 2 and struck out 6. He is now 11-2. Dorado's hit streak ended today, going 0-5 with a strikeout, a stolen base, and a run. Cardinals lost 12-4. Still, an 18-game hit streak is pretty dang good.

August 18th- 0-4. Cardinals lost 3-1.

August 20th- 2-4 with a triple, an RBI, a run, a strikeout, and a stolen base (#90 on the year). Cardinals lost to the Dodgers 13-5.

August 21st- 0-4. Cardinals won 5-4.

August 22nd- 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Cardinals lost 5-1.

August 23rd- Bobby went 5 innings against Detroit without giving up a run. 2 hits, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. The bullpen almost blew it, but the 6-5 victory gave Bobby his 12th win. Dorado went 1-4 with a stolen base as St. Louis lost 5-0 to Milwaukee.

August 24th- 3-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs, a walk, and a stolen base. Cardinals won 7-2.

August 25th- 1-2 with 2 walks, a strikeout, and a stolen base. Cardinals lost 2-0.

August 26th- 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Cardinals lost to the Reds 5-1.

August 27th- Bobby pitched 5 innings against Toronto. 4 hits, 1 run (a Schwarber homer), no walks, and 11 STRIKEOUTS gave him win #13 (9-2 final score). Jesus...went 0-3 with a walk and 2 strikeouts as the Cardinals lost 3-2.

August 28th- 0-4 with a strikeout and a stolen base. Cardinals lost 4-1.

August 29th- 1-4 with a run, 2 strikeouts, and a stolen base. Cardinals won 3-0.

August 31st- 2-3 with a double, a walk, a run, and one time caught stealing. Cards lost to the Brewers 5-2.

So Jesus is hitting .333/.373/.485 right now (currently has the NL batting title). His 178 hits lead the league, as he has 91 runs scored and 58 RBIs. He has 96 steals and only 12 CS, his ZR is a phenomenal 13.4, and his WAR is 7.8 (leads league). He's building up his MVP case. St. Louis is 84-48, 9.5 in front of Cincinnati for the division.

Bobby is 13-2 with a 1.88 ERA and 230 Ks (only 1 more win and he'd have the pitching Triple Crown). His 2.54 FIP also leads the league, as does his WAR of 5.6. He's clearly the AL Cy Young and maybe even the MVP.

One more month to go.

AL Wild Card Game

Bobby J. Smith was named player of the game in the AL Wild Card game against the Houston Astros.

Smith threw 6.2 innings, only giving up 2 hits (an Alex Bregman double in the 1st and a Jose Altuve single in the 7th). Altuve would later score on a Tyler White triple, which was the only run credited to Smith.

He walked 1 and struck out 11.

However, despite a 3-1 lead after seven innings, the Astros rallied back and won 4-3 on a walkoff single by Jose Peraza in the bottom of the ninth.

"It's heartbreaking" Smith told reporters at the end of the game. "While I'm happy that I was able to give my best, it's devastating to watch a season end like that and be powerless to stop it...but at the end of the day you can only control so much."

The Astros will play Cleveland in the ALDS.
