2021 Detroit Tigers

Nothing interesting to add. Just wanted to start a new thread for this season.

I'm not as excited this year as I was last year. Not sure why.

Anyway, pitchers and catchers start next week!

Agreed. I was discussing with friends that I think the Tigers have created a new free agent category. The “C” level player. The “C” level player is a player that has MLB name recognition only. You won’t be able to flip them mid year for anything and they are simply there to give the illusion the team is trying to improve when they really want to lose. Other than Schoop (who is really underrated) that is what they have done.

I am actually really excited for this season. I know it could be brutal in terms of W/L record but we have a great crop of young and/or recovering pitchers to watch and be hopeful about in Manning, Mize, Skubol, Turnbull, Norris, Boyd, and Fulmer. I am really excited to watch Castro, Grainer, Rodger, Stewart, Paredes, and Torkelson progress. I am still holding out hope for Candelario.

I think it could be a fun year.

My comments about the players the Tigers signed in the offseason aside, I am always excited for the new season. Even with talk of the 6 man rotation it looks like Manning will be down in AAA to start the season. Really looking to see how Mize and Skubal have grown. Turnbull is another interesting case. He has some real nice potential still. Personally, I'm done with the Norris project. Maybe Fetters can figure him out. Actually, Fetters is one of the exciting reasons to pay attention to the Tigers as well. I think that was a great out of the box hire. Candelario was the best hitter on the team down the stretch. It will be nice to see if he turned the corner or if that was simply on a hot streak. I have read some things about Rogers attitude that worries me but Castor and Paredes will be fun to watch.

My biggest worry is right here though. I should note that I think Pedro Martinez is brilliant and as much as I like the hiring of Fetters I would have first tried to back up the brinks truck and brought Pedro in.

I hear you on Norris. Another guy that I am done wasting hope on is Jacoby Jones. Every time I watch him play; in the field, on the bases, at the plate - he looks like a five-tool star. The problem is, he isn't what he looks like. Never has been and sadly, never seems that he will be.

Okay, so a switch must have flipped today with ST officially starting because I'm excited now. Maybe I've just been reading more about the team the past few days. Who knows?

I wasn't crazy about the Hinch hiring but I have to admit I love the noticeable change in team-wide approach at the plate. Overnight, this seems like a suddenly disciplined team.

Oh and Mize Manning and Norris have looked (or sounded on the radio) very sharp in the early going.

Two solid innings each from Fulmer and Skubal over the weekend.

Willi Castro may end being the guy I had hoped Cristian Stewart would be.

I think Casey Mize is struggling from the Daniel Norris effect. He seems way too in his head.

I tend to agree. He is having trouble building off his fastball. Hitters aren't biting on his secondary stuff as much as he would like. He looks like a guy that needs AAA to start the season. Get out of the spotlight, get yourself right and come back with a vengeance.

I think the Tigers will trend a little bit upward this season, with that being defined as 65-70 wins.

This guy agrees. He thinks a 70-92 season is in store. I think that's a realistic prediction.
