Here's a closer look at our brief league history (team performance)

The Bigfoot Patrol have been able to balance the second best lifetime winning percentage with getting hot in time for the playoff. But with the Dilly's taking home our most recent championship, some fans and pundits believe that change is in the air.

In the early days of our league, we've seen many offensive players peak early only to lose the form they show in their rookie year in subsequent seasons and while age is most certainly a factor, Kent Gore, that stalwart of clean living mixed with two shots of whiskey and a Cuban cigar, is our first two-time Griffey Award recipient.

Meanwhile, no one in the ECSBA has been as dominant as 6-time King Felix Award winner Bill King. During his halcyon days of equal parts bourbon, broads, and baseball, no man has been able to serve up the heat like "Presto" King.

With the first pitch of the 1996 season almost a week away, pundits covering the ECSBA are predicting a Zillas Vs. Dilly's championship when all is said and done. If the prediction holds this will be the second playoff appearance for both clubs. Also, with Bigfoot Patrol predicted to finish tied for third in the West, the '96 campaign could go down as one of their worst (though it would be an improvement over their 4th place finish in 1995).

With the 1996 campaign down to the last series of the season our Eastern Division is far from sewn up. The Zillas and The Footlongs find themselves tied for a playoff berth and as luck would have it, they are facing off on the Footlongs home turf for that final spot. Meanwhile, in the Western Division, the Mackerals are looking to pull off a miracle sweep of the first place, and defending Champion, Dilly's to force a one game, winner take all, play in to this years Championship Series.

Unfortunately for the wannabe Miracle Mackerals, it was not to be as they fell to the Dilly's 9-6. Chet Caine of the Dilly's turned in a stellar pitching performance before handing the ball to the pen in the 9th. The Mackerals put up a hell of an effort in the final frame scoring 5 runs out of the 8 they ultimately needed to tie the contest.

In the race for the East, the Footlongs would come out swinging in the first game of their three game stand winning a thriller over the Zillas 4-3, including a come from behind 2 run ninth off a double from Pedro Menanca who came in to PH for starter Tim Robinson.

In the second game of the series for the Eastern Division Pennant, the Zillas did not lay down and die after the disappointing loss in game one. Instead they exploded offensively in a 24-hit, 15-run effort to completely destroy the Footlongs on their home turf.

The pennant, season, and right to compete in the Championship series for the Eastern Division would come down to the last game of the 1996 regular season campaign. Who will represent the East?

In the end, all 54 games would be required to decide the Eastern Division's representative in the ECSBA Championship Series. After splitting the first two games of a three game stand at home against the Zillas, the Footlongs were able to assert their dominance to make their 7th appearance in the Championship Series and fourth in a row stretching back to the '93 campaign.

Getting there, though, would not have been possible without the standout performance of C Bob Richardson who put up the clutch performance of a lifetime! With a game score of 93, Richardson has penciled himself into the top performances of the year when his team needed it most.

Next Up: The Championship Series!

While the Footlongs have had the better season, the Dilly's have a 4-2 record versus them for the season... This one is anyone's series!

Who you got?!?

After a dominating performance at home in Game 1 of the 1996 ECSBA Championship Series by the Footlongs an undeterred Dilly's squad showed the resolve that earned them the Western Division bid and a 4-2 regular season record against the Footlongs in a workmanlike 9-6 victory in Game 2. Heading back to the Dilly's home turf now, this series has all the right ingredients to produce an upset of semi-epic proportions.

Thanks Darkcloud! Senior leagues are fun! I have a save where I put an age limit on the MLB and made it a feeder into another similar Senior League. So much fun to see the second life of the "old" pros play out.

The Dilly's stumbled at home in the final two games of the ECSBA Championship Series against one of the best squads the Footlongs have ever fielded. With a world class roster from top to bottom and the most dominant rookie pitcher ever to grace the ECSBA, the Footlongs look to turn their second title in four years into the beginning of a dynasty to rival Bigfoot Patrol's 3-Peat from 1990-1992.

1996 Awards:

In 10 seasons of the ECSBA, SP Tim Robinson turned in a rookie campaign for the ages. The highly decorated ace won the King Felix Award, The Greenhorn Award, His first Championship, and the ECSBA Championship Series MVP.

While Bigfoot Patrol missed the Championship series for the second season in a row, a first for the club, their future looks bright with Catcher Mark Gray on the roster. In his first season in the league, Mark brought home the highly coveted Ken Griffey Jr Award!

While his role on the Footlongs during the 1996 campaign was not as high profile as that of SP Tim Robinson, Mark Gray made a habit of wrecking the base path's whenever he got on base. With 24 steals on the season, the one man base path wrecking crew took home the Steal Like Suzuki award for his performance during the 1996 campaign.

The 1997 season is just around the corner and the ECSBA pundits are predicting a return trip to the playoffs for the Footlongs. However, given the strength of the Mackerals on paper, it looks like it may be difficult for the Footlongs to repeat as Champions.

As we head into the final weekend of the regular season it appears as if the predictions were spot on with the Mighty Mackerals 1 win away from a spot in the Championship series as the Footlongs are still working to stave off the Supremos and secure their spot!

The '97 season is all but in the books as we await the completion of last bit of business ~ the Championship Series! Can the Footlongs hold off the Mighty Mackerals and win their second consecutive title?!? With home field advantage belonging to the Macks, it looks like it is theirs to lose.

The Mackerals looked dominant in game one after putting up 10 runs on the reigning champion Footlongs, however, the Franks weren't in the bun just yet as game 2 went the other way. It's nice to get a win to even the series, no doubt, but if the Footlongs don't find a way to slow Jorge Perez down this series won't go the full five games.

The 1997 Mackerals are your Emerald City Senior Baseball Association Champions! Built on pitching and speed, these Mackerals look like they could accomplish what the Footlongs were unable to - back to back Championships...

Jorge Perez stayed hot over the course of the Series to secure the Championship Series MVP Award. It is the first for the 36 year old Second Baseman.

1998 Season Predictions

The 1998 season predictions are in and most pundits claim that the Barbers & the Dilly's will compete for the Championship this year. Can the Footlongs & Mackerals spoil the party and repeat as the divisional representatives in this years Championship series?

*Note - I'm going to approach this season a little differently and will report on the Footlongs on a series-by-series basis as they attempt to make it back to the Championship series.

1998 - Series 1 @ Red Devils

The Footlongs are swinging their franks (err bats) & playing loose, like a team without a care in the world, to start the 1998 season. Week 1 is in the books, and the Footlongs are already 3-0 & a series sweep into what could be a great year!

Next up: A 3-Game home stand against the Zillas (1-2).
