Red Sox Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
The Boston Red Sox ushered in the 2017 season with a win versus the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park. The final score was 5-2. Five-time All-Star Chris Sale was named player of the game. He went 7 innings, allowed only 2 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 9 while walking no one. Having scored one in each of the first three innings, the Red Sox put it away in the fourth with a two run inning. |

Red Sox Lose to Pirates, 7-3
The Pittsburgh Pirates racked up a win at Fenway Park tonight, bumping off the Red Sox, 7-3. Jameson Taillon pitched effectively for his team as they evened their record to 1-1 in the early going. With it being a one run game entering the sixth, the Pirates put it away with back-to-back big hits. Josh Harrison doubled in Andrew McCutchen and John Jaso to make it 5-2. Jordy Mercer followed it up with a two-run home run to put it away. Boston Highlight: Drew Pomeranz had 6 Ks in 2 innings pitched. Brandon McCarthy had 4 Ks in 1.1 innings pitched. Ten outs between the two, 10 strikeouts. Nice to see the pen working that well early. |

Team Japan Stars for Red Sox in 9-2 Win
The Boston Red Sox downed the Pirates, 9-2, at Fenway Park. The Red Sox were led offensively by Yoshi Tsutsugo, who captured POTG honors. The newly acquired LF went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored twice while driving in 3. His Team Japan teammate, SP Tomoyuki Sugano was credited with the win. He went the distance allowing only 2 runs and striking out 9. |

Betts Goes Ballistic - 5 Hit Afternoon
Getting 5 hits in a game is always a memorable feet in baseball. In Boston's 9-3 win over Detroit today, RF Mookie Betts was red-hot. Betts singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit a RBI single in the 4th, hit a RBI double in the 7th and singled in the 9th. Only once (ground out in the 6th) were the Tigers pitchers able to contain him. "I felt relaxed for the first four hits, but I have to admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for five." Betts said afterward. |

Tigers and the Weather Cool Off Hot Red Sox Bats
The Tigers defeated the Red Sox on a rainy day in the Motor City. Boston had scored nine runs in each of the last two games, but their bats failed to warm up on this day. Detroit rode a good effort from starter Anibal Sanchez to beat Boston 3-0. A bases loaded walk in the second was just a microcosm to the early struggles by Boston starter Joe Kelly. |
