San Diego again failed to reach the 10,000 fan mark. They're leaving, but to where?

In addition to Calgary, Denver and Kansas City, Atlanta and Long Island have made late bids.

Jessy Lamoureux of Winnipeg scores 82 points in 59 games and doesn't win the MVP.

Baltimore's Tristan MacKenzie wins it by scoring 83 points in 80 games.

Baltimore starts building an 18,000 seat arena to be ready for next year. They also hope to lure the Wizards back from Washington.

San Fran also gets into the new arena action going for a 17,000 seat arena for next year.

Baltimore's new arena bumps attendance from 14,282 to 16,267. San Fran's new arena bumps attendance from 12,146 to 13,790. Proving being competitive helps.

Washington, Cleveland, Houston and Calgary win the divisions.

In the Cup Calgary edges Baltimore in 7 games. Calgary wins in their 1st Cup in their 3rd season after the move from San Diego. All 9,998 die hard San Diego fans curse the city council bitterly for not building a new arena.

The NHL plans to expand by 4 teams in the early 90’s and 4 more in the late 90’s.

We will add 2 teams in the west and 2 in the east in the early 90’s (1992-93 and 1993-94).

All population figures are 1990/91 Urban Areas

Milwaukee – 1.2 million people - Needs to build an arena – had a WHA team

San Diego – 2.3 Million people - Needs to build an arena – Just lost their NHL team to Calgary

Phoenix – 2.0 Million People - America West Arena will be done for 92 – never had a pro team

Denver – 1.5 Million people - Has McNichols Arena – had a WHA team

Kansas City – 1.2 million people - Has Kemper Arena – had a WHA team

Dallas – 3.1 Million people - Has Reunion Arena – briefly had a WHA team

i would also suggest a new option for these next expansion: salt lake city. it's pretty much the winter sports haven of America. it would work as an NHL city.

Good idea. I've been so focused on cities with NHL teams and cities that did apply for the 92 and 93 expansions that I haven't looked at other cities.

Pier-Olivier St-Laurent of Baltimore skips over Jessy Lamoureux (now of Quebec) for first overall in all time assists. He leads by 1.

Rookie Olivier Ross scores 58 points in 80 games and finishes -10. Somehow wins MVP along with Rookie of the Year.

I've seen a few really odd MVP's. I'm convinced its broken
