position development

I was wondering if it was possible to develop or 'teach' a position to a player? For example - If I had a young LW whose defensive ratings were pretty high. Would it be possible to convert him to a LD by playing him at LD for a season or 2? Would his LD rating improve over those seasons?

Like trying to create/develop a Byfuglien or Brent Burns type player.

It should, that is how OOTP works and there seems to be the same ratings by position in FHM .. but saying that .. I don' have the exact answer

Yes, if you play him at a new position he'll improve at it. If left there long enough, it'll eventually displace his currently-listed main position.
