[9.69] Major Historical Bug with Player debuts

When I create a new historical game, and do NOT check Generate Rookies at 17, I expect players to debut in their actual NHL debut year. This is NOT happening.

Example: Jacques Plante debuted in the 1952-53 season, but in the game he is there in 1947.

With generate at 17 off, they debut in the first season the player was owned by the NHL team, not the year they played their first game - although it looks like I got Plante's data wrong, he didn't sign with the Habs until the fall of 1949, so I'll move him back to there from 47.

Unfortunately that means the game is useless from a historical replay perspective. You have way too many players taking roster spots far to early in and displacing players that should still be playing. I would expect this to work exactly like OOTP.

Now the alternative is making absolutely sure that a player like Plante is rated lower then any other Habs goalie in years where he didn't play in the real NHL... as realistically that's how he was rated at the time to get an accurate replay.

Which is exactly what I'm trying to do, and have spent hundreds of hours working on over the last year. It may not model every situation perfectly right now, but when I come across something that's not fitting together right, I fix it, and the model gets a little better. In this case, I needed to move Plante's first Montreal year back a bit, possibly change his development curve and stats, and might need to boost Gerry McNeil's ratings so he's got the edge after Bill Durnan retires. That way, you get the actual decision Frank Selke had to make: when do you switch from McNeil, who's a couple of years older and a little better at the moment, to Plante, who's younger and has more long-term potential? That makes for a more interesting, and in my opinion realistic, game than just forcing the answer on the player because the stats say McNeil was the starter from 50-54.

As much as I appreciate the effort, for now the NHL debut would be a far more reliable alternative. The truth is this is happening all over the place. You have the same issue with Terry Sawchuk in the same year. Every teams in fact has atleast 2-3 players that were still atleast a year or two away from their NHL debut rated ahead of players who really played in the NHL that year.
