Retina Display Blurry
Hi all,
Am using a MacBook with Retina Display and all the text and images in OOTP 16 look grainy. Had the same problem with OOTP 15. I look at the forum pages and they are as clear, sharp, and distinct. Don't know what to do!? Possibly the display was not designed for Macs but just PCs? Game experience is not too much fun when everything looks so blurry. Have tried adjusting resolutions on the Mac as well as in the game with no success. I've enclosed screen images so you can see what I'm noticing. Thanks for any help you can give. |

OOTP does not support retina displays directly. It looks the same on my MacBook Pro Retina, it's properly scaled by OSX.

Dumb question, but I've been thinking of buying a Mac. Is there a way to turn off Retina so that OOTP would just look like it does on my old (current) Windows 7 PC?

I know OOTP doesn't run at 2550x1440 but what resolution are you running the game at?

Have tried all resolutions. Currently running 2560 x 1600.
Love, love, LOVE the game. Just wish it looked better |

You can turn off retina display but it looks the same whether on or off, widowed or full screen.

That's disappointing. I play enough OOTP that this actually will impact my decision on which to buy. Can any other Mac users weigh in?

I have a Macbook Pro w/Retina and I play it scaled. Mine is also slightly blurry on the Retina setting. Honestly, I think it looks fantastic scaled, as does pretty much everything else. The Retina technology is lost on me. Just my personal opinion.

Well, one option would be to get a refurbished one from Apple's online store. You can still find non-Retina MacBook Pros there and occasionally you'll see one with a discrete graphics chipset, if you need it. They're cheaper, guaranteed to work, and have the full warranty. That's what I always do.

Playing on scaled and "more space" looks the best. But print is much smaller.

errrr... it looks blurry since it made the image so dang big. not sure why it does that when I add attachments; however in game its pretty crystal clear.

Mine is pretty crystal clear as well. As long as I'm not blowing it up for a pic on the forum. I think it looks fabulous. My ootp is set to 1680 X 1050. And the Mac display is set one up from Retina. I'm on a MBP Retina 15".

Glad it doesn't bother you guys. I put my settings on akw's and it does look a little better. Maybe they can correct the problem with the OOTP 17. Let's hope anyway. Thanks for everyone's suggestions

I agree. Something needs to be done for high resolution displays.
Additionally, I made a post on the general forum about a request for better support within the forum itself for retina images. It's a big problem with people posting massive photos because the forum itself doesn't support it. I'm hoping someone can add their thoughts there as well: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...na-images.html |

I doubt OOTP will support Retina displays anytime soon... we'd have to provide each image (and there are thousands of them) with 4 times the resolution, that would make the game a) slower and b) the download size crazy high. And the benefit would be marginal, at best.

The game really does not look very good at all on the default retina resolution. It's not the images that bother me, it's the really, really jagged text. I'd be perfectly happy if the images were non-retina but the text was sharp.
As for changing the Mac resolution setting to "more space", even if it's slightly better, that's kind of a lame workaround given that I often would run OOTP in the background while doing other things. Toggling the setting back and forth every time I switch to OOTP is silly.

This is probably me misunderstanding how Retina resolution works, exactly, but I find that on the same Retina screen, if I run Windows in a VM, it looks amazing. Yes the text is insanely small, but I get like 15 reading panes in there and its like seeing everything at once... Why can't it scale like that on the Mac in Retina? I would actually like for everything to be smaller like that...

Change your display settings to scaled for more space. I do that and everything looks amazing.
