Strangeverse

Strangeverse…
A world I created using an edited version of Stealofhome's Fictional Feeder League Quickstart (I love his set-up, you will too)… Essentially rebranded the MLB and Atlantic League, deleted the High School leagues, and added an ‘Unaffiliated Division’ to the NCAA Feeder so I could add teams like the MIT Equations, University of Anchorage Alaska, the San Dimas Community College Wyld Stallyns, and more… Oh, I also killed most of the minor leagues and rebranded what was left (AAA only…), but I don’t really bother with looking in on that league much.

I’ve been simming it seasons at a time, stopping along the way to check in on the NCAA Tourney and Draft before finishing the MLB and Bush League Seasons. I’ve kind of just done whatever I’ve wanted throughout the sim… Added the Jeter Bros, John Kruk, and Dave Winfield recently… created a short list to track former MIT, San Dimas, Ridgemont (Tasty Waves!), and Banana Slugs players… It’s been a blast to play through, so I figured that I’d start throwing up season recaps starting with the 2063 Season. The league has history clear back to 1992 (I wiped it once when I got frustrated with something, kind of wish I didn’t do that, but whatever…), so when 2092 hits I’ll throw up a list of interesting items from the first 100 years of Strangeverse.

2063 Season (MLB)

October/November 2063:
MLB: The Portland Timbers - wildcard entrant and holder of the worst record of all the eligible playoff teams, pulled off an incredible, come from behind, World Series victory over the NL East winning Brooklyn Citizens. Portlands improbable run saw them run through the Chicago Fire, Toronto Reds BC, and the Dallas Cowboys on their way to the World Series.

2063 Playoffs:
World Series: Portland Timbers defeat Brooklyn Citizens (4-3)
ALCS: Portland Timbers defeat Dallas Cowboys (4-1)
NLCS: Brooklyn Citizens defeat San Francisco 49ers (4-3)
WS MVP: RF Benjamin Herrera .444/.500/.778, 2HR, 6RBI (Brooklyn Citizens; 11th overall pick out of LSU in 2061)

2063 AL Boyce Rigg Award (MVP): LF Lucas Ross (Toronto Reds BC, 26, 24th overall pick out of Villanova in 2058). The top hitter put up a .295 batting average this year, as well as a .381 on-base percentage. He played 158 games and racked up 179 hits, 33 doubles, 2 triples, 47 home runs, 123 RBIs and 107 runs scored.
2063 NL Boyce Rigg Award (MVP): 1B Dave Pinchak (Brooklyn Citizens, 24, 15th overall pick out of Oregon State in 2060). The Brooklyn star also put up a .422 on-base percentage this year, with 224 hits, 39 doubles, 8 triples, 19 home runs, 108 RBIs and 112 runs scored.
2063 AL Vic Pacheco Award (Top Pitcher): SP Rob Bishop (Jacksonville Jaguars, 32, 53rd overall pick out of the University of Miami in 2052). He started 32 games, running up a 18-7 record and a 2.34 ERA. Bishop held opponents to a .218 average while striking out 316, walking 45 and allowing 180 hits in 227.1 innings of work.
2063 NL Vic Pacheco Award (Top Pitcher): SP Josiah Weber (Phoenix Suns, 24, 3rd overall pick out of Oklahoma State in 2060). Weber compiled a 16-13 record in 34 starts, tallied 365 strikeouts in 260 innings and recorded a 3.08 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .228 batting average against him.

Shortlist:
SS Derek Jeter Jr. (Pittsburgh Pirates, 25) - .300/.380/.377, 6HR, 38RBI in 113 Games with a 1.1 WAR. Jeter was unable to repeat as an All-Star after his first selection last year and missed significant time with a fractured rib.
SS Donny Jeter (Dallas Cowboys, 25) - .302/.360/.465, 10HR, 41 RBI in 61 games with a 1.0 WAR. Donny missed considerable time with a multitude of back issues.
SS Darryl Jeter (New York Jets, 25) – Continues to toil in minors with a potential rating that makes it unlikely he will spend any time in the MLB.
RF John Kruk (Green Bay Packers, 35) - .282/.374/.403, 17HR, 58 RBI in 160 games with a 1.1 WAR. Krukers scored his 1000th career Major League run on 7/20/2063. He also hit a Grand Slam against the New York Jets, so that’s fun.
RF Dave Winfield (Los Angeles Galaxy, 26) - .261/.332/.367, 8HR, 43 RBI in 104 games with a -0.3 WAR. Winfield’s development has stalled and his potential rating continues to plummet. He is currently out with torn quadriceps, which sounds pretty painful.

Shortlisted Nerds (Former NCAA MIT Equations players):
RF Paulo Noah (Vancouver Whitecaps, 24, 55th overall pick out of MIT in 2060) - .256/.332/.413, 20HR, 72 RBI in 143 games with a 1.2 WAR. Won NL Player of the Week in September.

2063 Season (Bush League)

October/November 2063:
Bush League (Indy): Top-seeded club, the Coney Island Footlongs, swept both of their series on their way to the 2063 Bush League Championship. They easily dispatched the Nolanville ‘Naughts in the Semis before dismantling the Gainesville Gamecocks to win the title.

2063 BL Playoffs:
Championship: Coney Island defeats Gainesville (4-0)
Semi-Finals: Coney Island defeats Nolanville (3-0); Gainesville defeats Beaumont (3-1)

Bush League Player of the Year: LF Connor Wiltshire (Coney Island, 27, 123rd overall pick out of Virginia by the Toronto Reds BC). Wiltshire only played 9 games in the Majors and spent 3 years toiling in the Independent Bush League. He retired at the end of the 2063 season. He clobbered the opposition with 140 hits, 14 doubles, 2 triples, 48 home runs and 107 runs batted in, while hitting .290 and scoring 94 runs for the Hagerstown Hummers in 2063.
Bush League Pitcher of the Year: SP Ace Mitchel (Decatur Donnybrooks, 31, 16th overall pick out of East Carolina by the Phoenix Suns in 2053 (1.9M Signing Bonus)). He spent 7 years in the Phoenix rotation before injuries sapped his abilities. Over the last two years he’s toiled in the Bush Leagues attempting to recapture the form of his youth. Mitchel was spectacular in 28 starting assignments with 6 wins and 12 losses, 162.1 innings, 154 strikeouts and a fine 2.99 ERA. Had to be tough being the 16th overall pick as a pitcher named Ace... especially given that during his 7 years of service time in the MLB, he was not once formally named the Ace of his pitching staff.

October/November 2064:
Bush League (Indy): The Dearborn Dilly’s, winners of 69 regular season tilts, managed to rise up from the wild card play-in to win the 2064 BLS in exciting fashion as they took down the defending champion Coney Island Footlongs 4-2.

The 33-year-old first baseman for Columbia churned out a .322 batting average while amassing 167 hits, 40 doubles, 2 triples, 35 home runs, 112 runs and 111 RBIs. He started 28 games and compiled a 13-6 record with an ERA of 2.20 in 155.1 innings with 161 strikeouts and retired from the game with his head held high.

Semi-Finals: Sunrise defeats Quincy (3-0); Columbia defeats Naperville (3-0)

Bush League Player of the Year: 3B Grayson Moran (Coney Island, 40, 5th overall pick out of Holy Cross by the New York Jets in 2046 ($3.2M Signing Bonus)). He spent 17 years in the Majors and 3 years in Bush League – he’ll retire when he good and ready, thank you very much. In 2065 he boasted a .269 average and a .383 on-base percentage as he piled up 117 hits, 28 doubles, no triples, 39 home runs, 81 RBIs and 82 runs scored. Sort of looks like the guy from Kids in the Hall…

Bush League Pitcher of the Year: SP Riengelo Westerhout (Columbia Blowfish, 33, 22nd overall pick out of New Mexico State by the New York Jets in 2056 ($1.9M Signing Bonus)). He spent 8 years in the MLB, mostly coming out of the bullpen. He dominated all season, finishing with 10 wins and 6 losses and a 2.78 ERA. In 28 starts he worked a total of 171.2 innings, striking out 192, while walking 47. Other clubs managed to hit only .195 against him.

2066 Season (MLB)

October/November 2066:
MLB:
For the 3rd time in four years, the Brooklyn Citizens earned the opportunity to play in the World Series and the chance to turn their fortunes around after losing the first two in heartbreaking fashion against the Portland Timbers and Toronto Reds BC respectively. Unfortunately, Toronto was too strong for the Citizens and dispatched them with ease over four games in one of the most lopsided World Series in the history of the league. For Toronto, the win secured their 4th World Series banner and 2nd of the last three years.

2065 Playoffs:
World Series:
Toronto Reds BC defeat Brooklyn Citizens (4-0)
ALCS: Toronto Reds BC defeat Portland Timbers (4-2) – Nice bit of revenge for Toronto here…
NLCS: Brooklyn Citizens defeat Los Angeles Lakers (4-2)
WS MVP: 3B Jefferson Navarro (TOR) - .471/.471/1.000, 3 HR, 8 RBI

2065 AL Boyce Rigg Award (MVP): 1B Michael Harrier (New York Jets, 25, 23rd overall pick out of Cal State Fullerton in 2063). On the season he compiled a .333 batting average to go with a .396 on-base percentage. The native of Provo, Utah also added 45 doubles, 1 triple, 31 home runs, 124 RBIs and 109 runs scored.

2065 NL Boyce Rigg Award (MVP): CF P.J. Trudell (St. Louis Rams, 26, 3rd overall pick out of Binghamton in 2062). His winning campaign featured a .340 batting average and a .449 on-base percentage this year. In 159 games he piled up 201 hits, 30 doubles, 3 triples, 34 home runs, 106 RBIs and 114 runs scored. His 9.4 WAR is the 3rd highest single-season WAR in the league’s history.

2065 AL Vic Pacheco Award (Top Pitcher): SP Alex Jackal (2-Time Winner, Toronto Reds BC, 26, 152nd overall pick out of Texas in 2060). Jackal compiled a 18-11 record in 32 starts, tallied 340 strikeouts in 237 innings and recorded a 3.23 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .239 batting average against him.

2065 NL Vic Pacheco Award (Top Pitcher): SP Josiah Weber (3-time Winner, 27, 3rd overall pick out of Oklahoma State in 2060). The Phoenix hurler held opposing hitters to a .215 batting average while putting up a 15-11 record and a 2.68 earned run average. He started 34 games, pitched 258.2 innings and struck out 364.

Shortlist:
SS Derek Jeter Jr. (Pittsburgh Pirates, 28) - .310/.369/.445, 21HR, 82 RBI in 159 Games with a 3.3 WAR. Hit his second career grand slam against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

SS Donny Jeter (Dallas Cowboys, 28) - .310/.384/.446, 21 HR, 77 RBI in 159 games with a 3.2 WAR. Made the All-Star team for the second time (pulling even with Derek) and was selected as a Silver Slugger for the second consecutive season.

SS Darryl Jeter (Vancouver Whitecaps, 28) – More injuries… Release seems imminent…

RF John Kruk (Golden State Warriors (By trade), 37) – Suffered through his worst season as a professional and finished with a -1.0 WAR. Kruk retired at the end of the season after 14 seasons in Major League Baseball. He made the all-star team 3 times and won a Silver Slugger during his time in the bigs…

RF Dave Winfield (Dallas Cowboys, 29) - .284/.335/.431, 14 HR, 69 RBI in 119 games with a 0.9 WAR. After two years playing in the Bush League, Winfield finally seems to have put his injuries behind him. He played solidly for Dallas, hopefully, this is a sign that he will stick in the MLB for a few more years.

RF Jules Winfield (Sugarland Skeeters (STL AAA), 24) - .250/.305/.378, 10 HR, 39 RBI with a 1.0 WAR. Missed 3 games with food poisoning, regressed from his debut season. Too many double cheeseburgers I suppose.

Shortlisted Nerds (Former NCAA MIT Equations players):
SP Travis Dranchak (San Diego Chargers, 26) – 3-5, 3.42 ERA, 92 IP, 38 BB, 83 K, ERA+ 115, 1.1 WAR

Shortlisted Stallyns (SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL RULES):
2B Randall Berger (Austin Grackles (DAL-AAA), 22) – .326/.389/.471, 7 HR, 44 RBI, 2.7 WAR. A good start for San Dimas CC’s first top 10 pick.

October/November 2067:
MLB:
The regular season ended with a tie-break game in the National League between San Francisco and San Diego for the NL West Division Crown. San Diego earned a bye with a 6-4 victory that improved their record to 82-81 for the season. They have the lowest winning percentage of any Division Winner in the history of the league. Luckily for the Chargers, San Francisco won their wildcard series which made for the lowest combined winning percentage in the second round of the playoffs in the history of the league – they would advance 4-3 after a hard scrabble 7-game series, advancing to the NLCS against the 94-68 St. Louis Rams. Their luck, however, ended there as they were swept by the Rams, who eventually went on to win the World Series over the Carolina Panthers 4-1. This is the Rams 6th World Series win, putting them in a two-way tie with the Portland Timbers for second most World Series banners.

2067 Playoffs:
World Series:
St. Louis Rams defeat Carolina Panthers (4-1)
ALCS: Carolina Panthers defeat Portland Timbers (4-3) – 2nd time PDX has lost the ALCS in a row…
NLCS: St. Louis Rams defeat San Diego Chargers (4-0)
WS MVP: C Jeremy Potvin (STL) - .471/.526/.882, 1 HR, 3 RBI (Drafted in the 4th round – pick 80 – in 2063 out of LSU)

2067 AL Boyce Rigg Award (MVP): 2B Rich Hamilton (Golden State Warriors, 26, 143rd overall pick out of Maryland in 2062). The Golden State Warriors star put up a .490 on-base percentage this year, with 179 hits, 20 doubles, no triples, 25 home runs, 83 RBIs and 102 runs scored. His 2067 8.34 WAR is good enough for 7th all-time.

2067 NL Boyce Rigg Award (MVP): CF P.J. Trudell (2-Time Winner, St. Louis Rams, 26, 3rd overall pick out of Binghamton in 2062). The St. Louis right fielder battered the opposition for 169 hits, 19 doubles, no triples, 36 home runs and 92 RBIs, while scoring 102 runs. He hit .290 and posted a .420 on-base percentage.

2067 AL Vic Pacheco Award (Top Pitcher): SP Josiah Weber (4-Time Winner, Toronto Reds BC, 28, 3rd overall pick out of Oklahoma State in 2060). Weber had a marvelous season, going 14-13 with an impressive 2.85 ERA in 33 starts. He struck out 344 in 253 innings and limited opposing batters to a .211 batting average. This was his first season in the American League after spending the last 6 seasons in Phoenix.

2067 NL Vic Pacheco Award (Top Pitcher): SP Samuel Herbert (St. Louis Rams, 27, 2nd overall pick out of Duke (gross) in 2061). Herbert compiled a 17-9 record in 33 starts, tallied 273 strikeouts in 255 innings and recorded a 2.89 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .223 batting average against him.

Shortlist:

SS Derek Jeter Jr. (Pittsburgh Steelers, 29) - .286/.387/.435, 22 HR, 85 RBI in 161 Games with a 3.8 WAR. Hit his third career Grand Slam against the Rams and his 4th career walk-off against the Brooklyn Citizens.

SS Donny Jeter (Orlando City, 29) - .295/.353/.376, 9 HR, 45 RBI in 125 games with a 0.8 WAR. Missed 5 weeks with a sprained thumb.

SS Darryl Jeter (San Diego Chargers (claimed on waivers), 29) – .290/.351/.381, 6 HR, 37 RBI in 95 games with a 0.2 WAR. Hit his 2nd career walk-off (and first in 5 years) versus the Montreal Impact/
RF Dave Winfield (Dallas Cowboys, 30) - .270/.353/.425, 16 HR, 62 RBI in 143 games with a 0.7 WAR. Serviceable.

RF Jules Winfield (St. Louis Rams, 24) – Only played in 4 games for the big club, but he will get a nice piece of jewelry.
