I hadn't even looked. Seems I have quite a few readers by view count.

I appreciate that. Thank you for tuning in.

Now, back to the criminally bad 1972 Texas Rangers.

MAY 31, 1972
Due to the rain out yesterday, the Rangers and Athletics will play a double header again today.

At least we got Frank Howard.

Pepitone got Oakland on the board first with an RBI double in the third. Meanwhile, Catfish Hunter was perfect through three.

After three: Oakland 1 Texas 0.

Oakland got bases loaded and nobody out in the fourth but did not score.

Biittner broke up the perfection in the bottom of the fourth with a one-out single.

Stanhouse struck out the side in the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Reggie Jackson hit his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot. Stanhouse ended the frame by striking out Epstein, It was the 40th K on the season for Stanhouse and his last pitch of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Biittner beat out the throw to avoid hitting into a double play and recorded an RBI as a result.

After six: Oakland 2 Texas 1.

Paul Lindblad came on to pitch the seventh for Texas. And Bob Locker took the mound for Oakland in the eighth.

The pitching change cost Catfish a chance at the win as Grieve hit a 2-run single in the eighth to give Texas the lead!

Horacio Pina then came on in the ninth to try to save it.Oakland got two runners on but Pina got Rudy Meoli to fly out to end the game.

Final score: Texas 3 Oakland 2.

The second game doesn't look as bad for Texas as the first game did and the Rangers pulled that one out! And, somehow, this season series is 3-3.

Ken Holtzman recorded his 40th K of the season, striking out the very first batter he faced, Vic Harris.

Bando got Oakland on the board with an RBI single in the third. Meanwhile, Holtzman was perfect through three.

After three: Oakland 1 Texas 0.

Dave Nelson got a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth to end Holtzman's perfection.

The Rangers committed two error in the top of the fifth to give the Athletics bases-loaded and no outs. One out later, Mike Paul came in to pitch for the Rangers and he and Gogolewski got out of the inning without giving up a run. Eerily similar to first game of the double header.

The top of the sixth saw a 70 minute rain delay.

In the bottom of the sixth, Toby Harrah tied the game with his first home run of the season.

After six: Oakland 1 Texas 1.

Jim Shellenback took the mound for the Rangers in the seventh. And Diego Segui did the same for Oakland.

With one on and one out in the top of the ninth, the Rangers brought Paul Linblad to the mound and he sent the game to the bottom of the ninth still tied.

Darold Knowles came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth. Dave Nelson led off with a single and then suddenly was on third as his stolen base attempt led to a bad throw. Burroughs walked to put runners at the corners and then Knowles threw a wild pitch as the Rangers swept the double header the moment Nelson crossed the plate!

Final score: Texas 2 Oakland 1

The Brewers might be overachieving a bit this season, but they are still better than the Rangers. Milwaukee has won 5 games in a row.

Burroughs right away makes it hard for Milwaukee to make it six straight as he hits a two-run shot in the top of the first.

Texas loaded the bases with two out in the top of the second for Toby Harrah but he lined out to third to strand them all.

Meanwhile, Rich Hand had a no-hitter going through three.

After three: Texas 2 Milwaukee 0.

Dave May broke up the no-no with a single in the fourth. Brewers then had bases loaded and no outs. Rodriguez grounded out to bring in a run. But that's all the Brewers would get in the fourth.

Parsons got K #30 on the season, striking out Biittner in the sixth.

After six: Texas 2 Milwaukee 1.

In the top of the seventh, Dave Nelson swiped his 25th base of the year. But it did not lead to a run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Dave May gave the Brewers the lead with a three run homer.

In the top of the eighth, Texas had a runner on first and one out. Milwaukee went to the bullpen and Ken Sanders came out to pitch. Don Mincher came in and delivered a pinch hit RBI single to make it a one run game. But that's all the Rangers got in the eighth.

Mike Paul was brought on in the bottom of the eighth and he kept it a one run game.

Toby Harrah led off the top of the ninth with a double. Nelson then singled and advanced to second on an error as Harrah scored the tying run. After an intentional walk to Burroughs, Nelson stole third with Ted Kubiak up as the pinch hitter. Kubiak then brought both runs in with a double. Ray Newman came in to pitch and, after a sac fly moved Kubiak to third, a wild pitch scored him. A four-run ninth gave the Rangers a three run lead with three outs to go.

Horacio Pina came on to try to get those three outs. Three up. Three down.

Final score: Texas 7 Milwaukee 4.

Cab the Rangers drop Milwaukee again while once again playing the underdog role?

The Rangers get on the board in the first as Dave Nelson brings home a run on a groundout. Burroughs followed up with his 10th homer of the season, a 2-run blast. The Rangers were not done as they loaded the bases. Despite batting around the order, the three runs would be all they would get.

The Brewers would load the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the first. A double play groundball would bring in a run. Theobald would bring home another with a single.

Burroughs struck out to lead off the top of the third. It was Lockwood's 40th K of the season.

After three: Texas 3 Milwaukee 2.

Mike Ferraro gave Milwaukee the lead in the fourth with a 2 run single.

After six: Milwaukee 4 Texas 3.

Paul Lindblad came out to pitch the seventh for Texas.

After Lockwood walked Biittner to begin the eighth, the Brewers brought Ken Sanders in to pitch. And Sanders made sure Biittner was left stranded.

Sanders also got the 1-2-3 ninth to get the save.

Final score: Milwaukee 4 Texas 3.

The final analysis favors the Brewers in the finale

This time it's the Brewers who strike first as Briggs hit a 2 run homer in the first inning.

Meanwhile, Lonborg has a no hitter through three.

In the bottom of the third, May gets an RBI double to drive in his 30th run of the season.

After three: Milwaukee 3 Texas 0.

Texas was still without a hit after six innings.

After six: Milwaukee 3 Texas 0.

Burroughs broke up the no hitter with authority by leading off the seventh with a home run.

The Brewers loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the seventh and then Bosman walked pinch hitter Darrell Porter to force in a run. It was Porter's 10th RBI of the season.

In the top of the eighth, Biittner brought home a run with s groundout and Nelson did the same to make it a one run game.

Mike Paul was brought on in the bottom of the eighth and kept Texas within a run with three outs to go.

But Lonborg got the 1-2-3 ninth to end the game.

Final score: Milwaukee 4 Texas 3.

Good for the Rangers to have the advantage on the mound, but Texas doesn't enough offense to take advantage and the Yankees have too many weapons.

The Yankees loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the first. They got a run in on a 4-6-3 grounder and a second run on a wild pitch.

Frank Howard answered with a three run homer in the bottom of the first. Howard became just the second Ranger to get over 20 RBI.

After three: Texas 3 New York 2.

Bernie Allen tied the game in the top of the fourth with an RBI single.

Gogolewski struck out Roy White to begin the fifth. It was Gogolewski's 60th K on the season.

The Rangers loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth and the Yankees went to the bullpen and brought in Steve Kline. An error brought in the go ahead run and Biittner added an RBI on a fielder's choice.

With a runner on first and one out in the sixth, the Rangers went to the bullpen as well and brought Paul Lindblad to the mound.

Another Yankee error led to a Burroughs RBI in the bottom of the sixth.

After six: Texas 6 New York 3.

Lindy McDaniel took the mound for the Yankees in the seventh. Horacio Pina did the same for the Rangers in the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Toby Harrah put the game out of reach with a three run homer. One batter later, Fred Beene took the mound for the Yankees.

Final score: Texas 9 New York 3.

The Yankees have a losing record on the road but looked to bounce back with the better pitcher as Stottlemyre leads the league in wins.

The Yankees loaded the bases in the first but couldn't get a run across.

In the bottom of the first, Biittner hit his first home run of the season with a man on base. Also in the first, Stottlemyre struck out Burroughs to reach 40 K on the season.

The Rangers took advantage of an error in the second to stretch their lead on a Kubiak RBI single. Biittner added an RBI single as well in the second.

After three: Texas 4 New York 0.

The Rangers continued to add to their lead as Lovitto collected an RBI single in the fourth. He even stole his first base of the year.

Billings picked up an RBI in the fifth on a groundout for Texas.

In the top of the sixth, Horace Clarke cut the Rangers lead in half with a three run homer. It was his first home run and 10th RBI of the season.

After six: Texas 6 New York 3.

The Yankees got their first two runners on in the seventh and the Rangers turned to Paul Lindblad. Kenney then hit an RBI double and Murcer added an RBI groundout to make it a one run game.

Jack Aker took the mound for the Yankees in the bottom of the seventh. The Rangers loaded the bases with one out and Don Mincher came up with a pinch hit RBI single. Kubiak added a two run single to give the Rangers some breathing room again. Steve Kline came in to pitch with the bases loaded and one out and Lovitto added a run on a fielder's choice grounder as the Rangers would bat around the order in the inning.

Casey Cox came in to pitch in the eighth with a 5 run lead and Cox finished it off.

The Rangers may be going for the sweep but this is a big mismatch that favors the Yankees.

Biittner put the Rangers on the board first with an RBI double in the second.

After three: Texas 1 New York 0.

The Rangers loaded the bases in the fourth but Broberg hit into the inning ending double play.

A throwing error led to a sac fly RBI for Swoboda that tied the game in the fifth. Broberg, however, ended the inning by setting Peterson down on strikes to record his 50th K on the season.

The Rangers got another bases loaded, one out situation in the sixth inning. Lenny Randle gave Texas the lead back with an RBI single. A Yankees error gave Texas another run.

After six: Texas 3 New York 1.

The Yankees had a runner on first and one out in the eighth when the Rangers pulled Broberg and brought in Horacio Pina.

Pina struck out pinch hitter Bernie Allen in the ninth to get his 20th K on the season. And, with two on, Pina struck out pinch hitter Johnny Callison to end the game.

The Rangers continue to be a factor in the AL East race as they host the Orioles for three games. Baltimore is currently in second place in the AL East, just a half game behind Milwaukee.

The defending AL Champions are clear favorites here. Baltimore has beaten Texas 2 out of 3 so far this season.

In the top of the first, Don Baylor got things going with his 20th stolen base of the year. But the Orioles failed to bring him home.

Paul Blair did get the Orioles on the board in the second with a solo home run. However, Bosman struck out the very next batter, Etchebarren, to record his 50th K on the season.

After three: Baltimore 1 Texas 0.

Burroughs tied the game with an RBI single in the sixth inning.

After six: Baltimore 1 Texas 1.

The Orioles blinked first, going to the bullpen in the eighth as Grant Jackson took the mound. Texas got a couple men on but couldn't score.

In the top of the ninth, pinch hitter Terry Crowley gave the Orioles the lead with an RBI single. Paul Blair added an RBI with a sac fly. And that would be enough.

Final score: Baltimore 3 Texas 1.

This may be the toughest matchup the Rangers have had all year.

The Orioles loaded the bases in the first on a pair of walks and a hit batter and then Robinson got a fielder's choice RBI. The next batter, Blair, broke the 20 mark in RBI on the season with a 3 run homer.

Baylor added an RBI triple in the second and then scored on a Powell groundout.

After three innings, Baltimore had six runs but only two hits.

In the bottom of the third, McNally rung up Harris to record his 50th strikeout of the season.

After three: Baltimore 6 Texas 0.

Rich Hand was done after just three innings as Mike Paul took the mound to start the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Burroughs got Texas on the board with an RBI single, driving in his 40th run of the season. The Rangers would go on to load the bases as well in the fourth and Vic Harris added an RBI single. Pinch hitter Don Mincher got an RBI groundout as the Rangers cut the deficit in half in one inning.

Casey Cox came in to start the fifth on the mound for Texas. The Orioles still had just two hits.

After six: Baltimore 6 Texas 3.

Cox picked up his 10th K of the season when he struck out Salmon in the seventh.

After seven innings, Texas had outhit Baltimore 10-2 but still trailed by three runs.

Paul Lindblad came in to pitch the ninth for Texas and Grant Jackson took the mound for the Orioles as the game closed out.

Though still the underdogs, this is the Rangers best chance to take one.

Grich got Baltimore on the board with an RBI groundout in the top of the first as, again, Baltimore scored without getting a hit.

Rettenmund added an RBI single in the third and then Gogolewski issued a bases loaded walk to Brooks Robinson. It was Robinson's 30th RBI on the year. Blair was the next batter to bring in a run as he collected a sac fly RBI. Etchebarren added a 2 run double as the Orioles put up the crooked number in the third.

After three: Baltimore 6 Texas 0.

Mike Paul was brought out to pitch the fourth inning. Powell got a 2 run double and scored on a wild pitch before Paul set down Etchebarren on strikes to end the inning with his 20th K on the season.

Jim Shellenback came in to pitch the sixth as the Orioles already had 10 hits in the first 5 innings.

After six: Baltimore 9 Texas 0.

Pat Dobson struck out Nelson to begin the bottom of the seventh. Dobson recorded his 60th K of the season.

Not as big as against the Orioles, but once again the Rangers are the underdogs.

We have an early pitcher's duel going on. Stanhouse was perfect through three.

After three: Milwaukee 0 Texas 0.

The Brewers got their first hit of the game in the fourth inning. And then Briggs hit a two run homer.

The Brewers loaded the bases in the sixth. Heise got an RBI single and Conigliaro followed with a sac fly RBI.

Ted Kubiak stole his first base of the year in the bottom of the sixth but was stranded at third as the Rangers scoreless streak reached 20 innings.

After six: Milwaukee 4 Texas 0.

Horacio Pina was brought in to pitch the seventh. Theobald knocked in a run with a single.

Mike Paul then pitched the ninth for Texas. The Brewers put runners on the corners with two out and the Rangers brought in Paul Lindblad to pitch and he gave up an RBI single to Rodriguez.

The Brewers came into the second game of the series trying to keep pace with the Orioles, while the Rangers were just looking to score a run. The Rangers had not scored in their last 23 innings and only scored in 1 of their last 27 innings. A 3 run 4th against Baltimore on the 10th.

The disappointing season for the Oakland Athletics just got worse. 3B Sal Bando, who was leading AL voting for his position in the All Star Game, will instead miss the rest of the year after suffering a concussion on June 10.

Some changes in the Texas lineup but advantage still heavily favors Milwaukee.

The two pitchers dominate early on. The Rangers threatened in the second and third innings but got nothing.

The Rangers scoreless streak reached 26 innings.

After three: Milwaukee 0 Texas 0.

Milwaukee is the first team to reach third base in this game and it takes them until the sixth inning to do it as they loaded the bases with one out. Ferraro then broke the scoreless tie with a run scoring single to reach double digits in RBI on the year. Conigliaro added a 2 run single. Heise then brought home 2 with a double to complete the crooked number inning.

Meanwhile, the Rangers scoreless streak reached 29 innings.

After six: Milwaukee 5 Texas 0.

Milwaukee got two on with one out in the seventh and Casey Cox came in to replace Broberg and he got the Rangers out of the inning.

Jim Shellenback pitched the ninth for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the ninth, Texas got a leadoff walk and Milwaukee made a pitching change, bringing in Ken Sanders. And Sanders finished off the shutout as the Rangers scoreless streak reached 32 innings.

Despite having been shutout in three straight games, the Rangers still have scored more runs this season than two other teams in the American League. The Brewers are still a game behind the Orioles in the East as the series ends today.

According to unidentified sources, 34 year old RP Joe Horlen has asked the Oakland Athletics to trade him.

Another mixing of the lineup for Texas as the Rangers try to find something that will produce a run. Once again, it is advantage Milwaukee.

Bosman is perfect through three.

In the bottom of the third, the Rangers had the bases loaded with one out and Vic Harris drew a walk to end the scoreless streak at 34 innings. Dave Nelson added a 2 run double and Burroughs pitched in an RBI single.

After three: Texas 4 Milwaukee 0.

The Brewers got their first hit with one out in the fourth. Dave May then put the Brewers on the board with a sacrifice fly.

Bosman ended the Brewers half of the fifth by striking out Parsons to record his 60th K of the season.

After six: Texas 4 Milwaukee 1.

Dave May led off the top of the seventh with a home run, his 10th of the season. Ferraro added an RBI single to make it a one run game.

With a runner on second and two out in the bottom of the seventh, Frank Linzy came in to pitch and got the final out.

Horacio Pina was brought in to pitch the eighth and he set the Brewers down in order.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Rangers committed their third error of the game and Milwaukee loaded the bases with nobody out. A wild pitch by Pina brought in the tying run and then pinch hitter Bill Voss hit his first home run of the season. A grand slam. Casey Cox replaced Pina but the damage had been done.

Ken Sanders took the mound for Milwaukee in the ninth. Toby Harrah knocked in a run with a base hit but it wasn't enough as 4 total errors sent the Rangers to their sixth straight loss.

Final score: Milwaukee 8 Texas 5.

The Yankees had a horrible road trip to start this month. They went 2-8, including being swept in Texas. They have ended their skid with a pair of home wins against the White Sox and now host the Rangers for three. Texas is looking to end a six game losing streak.

Harrah and Burroughs just aren't enough to overcome the likes of Murcer, Munson and Blomberg. Advantage Yankees.

Walks and an error led to the Yankees loading the bases with two out in the bottom of the first but Gogolewski got the final out without giving up a run.

After three: Texas 0 New York 0.

Lovitto single handedly kept the game scoreless in the fifth by throwing out two runners at home.

After six: Texas 0 New York 0.

The double shutout remained intact past the eighth inning.

Biittner broke the tie with an RBI single in the top of the ninth. Lenny Randle gave Texas a two run lead with an RBI double.

Paul Lindblad came in to pitch the ninth for Texas and he got the three outs to end the Rangers 6 game losing streak and give Texas a fourth straight win over the Yankees.

The Rangers look to make it five straight wins against the Yankees in the second game of their series in New York.

Philadelphia's 27 year old SP Barry Lersch has left the team for unspecified personal reasons.

Despite the matchup disadvantage, the Rangers are 4-0 against the Yankees this year.

Kekich ended the top of the first by striking out Frank Howard to record his 40th strikeout of the season.

Murcer got the Yankees on the board in the bottom of the first with a sac fly.

The Rangers tied the game in the top of the third when Nelson scored from third on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the third, Stanhouse suffered the humiliation of giving up a home run to the opposing pitcher. It was Kekich's first homer of the season. This woke the Yankees up and they loaded the bases with nobody out. Blomberg brought in a run with a fielder's choice grounder.

After three: New York 3 Texas 1.

The Yankees loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the fourth but could not add to their lead.

Alou did add to the lead in the fifth with an RBI double and Ellis contributed a sac fly RBI.

With a runner on first and two out in the bottom of the sixth, Mike Paul relieved Stanhouse to end the inning.

After six: New York 5 Texas 1.

Toby Harrah made it a brand new game in the top of the seventh with a two run homer.

Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the seventh.

The Rangers got a runner on second with two out in the eighth and the Yankees went to the bullpen and brought in Sparky Lyle, the major league leader in saves and he got the final out of the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Harrah brought in a run with a groundball out and moved the tying run to third. But Biittner grounded to second to end the game as the Yankees finally got a win against Texas.

Final score: New York 5 Texas 4.
