Not Playing Can-You-Top-This...

Just didn't realize you needed one. Marty Keough, Braves '66.

So there's one white whale from that team - John Herrnstein, Braves '66. You wouldn't think he'd be impossible to find; he was there six weeks.

1966 Braves

Thanks again for filling a need, Merc. I still have Ed Sadowski missing from the 1966 Braves. Did I miss that one being posted? There are also some others who only have black and white and Ron Reed that I have not been able to find in the same 1966 uniform. Lastly, of the black and white images, is there one of Abernathy that is color? Thanks again

An appreciation of Wane Graham upon his 1000th coaching victory at Rice University

Rice University went into the bottom of the 11th inning yesterday trailing Texas State by one run before rallying for two runs to give College Baseball Hall Of Fame coach, Wayne Graham (2012 election & induction) his 1,000th coaching win at Rice. In 23 seasons at Rice Graham's Rice Owls teams are 1,000-401 for a .714 winning percentage (about 5 wins per every 7 games played).
After a rather pedestrian 11 year pro career (1957-1967) mostly in the Philadelphia Phillies organization as a thirdbaseman/outfielder that saw him reach the majors briefly twice in 1963 with the Phillies and 1964 with the NY Mets Graham returned to the University of Texas where he completed bachelors and masters degrees in Physical Education. He coached high school baseball throughout the 1970s, then moved on to coach at San Jacinto Junior College (in the Houston suburbs) in 1981. His teams compiled a record of 574-113 there for an extraordinary .836 winning percentage in 11 years through 1991, winning five Junior College World Series titles (the JUCO WS). No Graham-coached team on any level, including high school has finished at or below .500.
Now 77, Graham said recently he wants to keep coaching baseball and hasn't thought seriously about retiring.
Photos from throughout his career follow.

One Year Winner/One Year wonder?

His subsequent high school, junior college and
Division One college coaching career proved
that Graham was much more than that.

NY Mets - 1964

Graham had his second shot at the majors with the NY Mets from
August to October of 1964. He was one of the players the Mets
acquired in a trade that sent slugger Frank Thomas to the Phils.

MODERATOR NOTE: Thanks to FatJack for the colorization.

College Baseball Hall Of Fame enshrinement 2012

Wayne Graham was elected to the College Baseball
Hall Of Fame in February 2012, and his induction
ceremony was on June 30 of that year. Graham's fellow
inductees that year included all-star, Nomar Garciaparra
and Hall Of Famer, Lou Brock.
(Photos are from the College Baseball HOF website).
Graham's career win-loss totals in his College HOF bio blurb
here has not been updated and is only accurate through 2011.

No plans to retire yet.

In an interview Feb. 13 hours before Rice's 2014
season opener Graham said he hasn't thought
seriously about retiring yet, although he will turn
78 in April. (2/13/14 - Houston Chronicle).

Colorization, sure, but its also a transformation of the Phillies B&W just above, here. Pretty obvious, too, if you look at the Mets script.

Anyway, Merkle posted a legitimate Wayne Graham Mets photo a while back. I'd go with that one.
