I also recently started a franchise as the Blue Jays where I don't manage the games myself, and one thing I'm noticing only a few series into the season is that my manager is putting in relievers who are tired when there are fully-rested relievers available. Is this normal? Has my manager just decided that a tired 'Pitcher A' is better than a well-rested 'Pitcher B.'
Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Could be. Check to see if they are set to "use more often", "use normally" or "use less often" on your pitching staff screen. That will impact, well, how often they get used.

At first one of the relievers was listed as 'use more often' but i changed it to 'normal' after i noticed what was happening but i don't think it's made much difference. I just simmed a game and in the 7th inning the manager put in a tired Darren Oliver instead of a fresh Sergio Santos who is a 4-star pitcher.

Obviously, the best way to 'fix' pitching is to acquire better pitching, but know when to stop and how much you're willing to invest/risk in order to reach your objective. Case in point, I'm in a bind right now, having let the adrenaline rule during the last FA period instead of common sense. As a result, I moved into the 8th highest payroll (out of 48 teams) with almost 80% of it invested in my two top tier SP, and for a few years.
I'm sure I'll do well this year. I'm even more certain that pitching will help us prevail. I am equally certain that there are players who will become free agents, and I'd love to keep them, but I have no money to do so now with extensions. As a result, I may end up overspending again, in order to keep them on the team (they're batters). Caution is a good attribute. Wish I had more of it.

Another question: If your manager is in charge of everything during games, does he warm up relievers in the bullpen? I intermittently pause the game and check and have yet to see any reliever warming up. Once I took control of substitutions, placed Casey Jansen in the bullpen to warmup and then gave control back to the Manager. When the 8th inning came along Esmil Rogers (a middle reliever) was put in instead of Jansen (setup/closer).
Do relievers kind of just warm-up automatically without being visually in the Bullpen if your manager is calling the shots or something? |

The AI does not use the warmup function. Any relievers the AI brings into the game will be fully warm. This includes both your AI manager, and the AI manager of the other team.
If you want yourself at a disadvantage, that's fine. Otherwise, turn off the warmup function. |
