Waffletown tourney team brings home another win, this time in the 1625 cap tournament, so a lot of the reserve players get a chance to shine (Bert Campaneris bats a solid .359 in the leadoff spot)

Fans of Waffletown are considering the purchase of stock in champagne as they are getting used to popping bottles of it at the end of each regular season. Once again, the Syrups punched their ticket to the post season with a solid 98-64 record, which was good enough to secure the second wild card.

Waffletown will travel to meet the Pittsburgh RedSox in the wild card match. The two teams met 6 times during the regular season with the Syrups taking the series 4-2.

and it's a quick one-and-done for Waffletown. In a great pitcher's duel wild card match-up, Walter Johnson of Pittsburgh out-dueled the Syrups Ed Walsh to take the game 3-0

A new recruit rolled into town, ready to join the squad for next season:

1B - Bill Terry (97)

Harry Heilmann will be sent to the reserves to make room on the roster. Terry will take up residence at first base, and George Sisler will shift to the DH position.

The champagne flowed freely once again in the Waffletown clubhouse as the Syrups clinched another post season birth. The squad had a solid 101-61 season, which was good enough to secure the top wild card spot. This is the 5th 100+ win season for Waffletown, and the 4th time in the last 8 seasons.

On the basepaths, Waffletown set a new single season team record for stolen bases with 259, breaking the old record by a single base (258 set in 2048). Cool Papa Bell led the group with 82, while Sliding Billy Hamilton (59), Sherry Magee (49), and George Sisler (46) did their part to add to the record setting number.

At the plate, Sherry Magee (.310) and Bill Terry (.304) were the only two batters to break the .300 mark. Magee-Terry-Sisler also made a solid 3-4-5 punch, each of them driving in 100+ runs with Terry leading the team at 112 RBIs. Sisler finished 5 behind at 107; and Magee at 104.

On the mound, Rube Waddell nabbed the AC ERA crown with his 2.37 ERA; while staff ace Ed Walsh picked up the AC wins crown with his 22-5 record.

Harry Brecheen had an impressive run of wins, starting the season 12-0 (missing the team record by 1), and set the team record for undefeated streak at 22 (breaking the 27 year old record of 16 set by Eddie Plank in 2035)

Waffletown will face the SLC Punks in the wild card game. The two teams met 6 times during the regular season, with each time winning 3 games.

Good luck in the P.S.

Hoping you can put the whup on the double-shark teamup over in the NC.

(P.S. post-season berth, unless you had a baby.)

Ed Walsh faced off against his doppleganger Ed Walsh in the wild card game, when the dust settled, Walsh picked up a win, Walsh took a loss, and Walsh was the player of the game

And the right Walsh came out on top as the Syrups emerged victorious 5-3 to advance to the LDS.

Waffletown will head to Washington to face off against the top seeded Senators. The two teams met 7 times during the regular season with the Senators taking the series 4-3

In a series that could have gone either way with the right timely hitting, Washington claims victory in the LDS 3 games to 1, with 2 of their 3 wins needing extra innings.

"It was a tough series, but can't say we didn't put up a good fight." said closer Chief Bender (who should be in the running for Reliever of the Year this season).

Bill Terry blows away the previous team RBI streak record (9 achieved in five separate seasons by Harry Heilmann, George Sisler and Red Schoendeinst) by successfully driving in at least one run in 17 straight games this season.

"It's all the guys batting ahead of me. If it weren't for them, I'd have no runs batted in." Terry quipped after the last game where he was held without an RBI.

Terry is on pace to drive in 192 runs this season.

Rube Waddell caps off an outstanding season by bringing home the first Triple Crown award for a Waffletown pitcher in team history. He led the league in wins (22), ERA (2.45) and strikeouts (258). He also led the league in hr/9 (0.3), K/9 (9.5) and WAR (8.8)

For the first time since the 2055 season, Waffletown celebrated at the end of the season not only for another trip to the post season, but this time for a division title. After a hard fought season that saw Waffletown and division rival Beaumont see-saw back and forth in the 1st-2nd spots of the AC East, the Syrups took care of business down the stretch to finish the season at 92-70, 4 games ahead of Beaumont.

"We didn't play as well as we hoped this year (12 games under pythag) but it was good enough to get us to the playoffs." said staff ace Ed Walsh.

Waffletown will face AC West champ Erwin Armada in the LDS. The two teams met 7 times during the season with the Syrups taking the series 4-3

Sadly, the Syrups apparently used up all their fight in the regular season to claim the division title; as they failed to obtain even a single win in the LDS.

The search for the first Perfect tier title continues....

In the wee hours of July 31st, the Waffletown GM was just waking up and sipping on his coffee when he glanced at the waiver wire and spotted a player that had been on his wishlist for quite some time. He waited until the last moment before snapping him up. Joining the Syrups for the stretch run of the 2064 season:

CF - Joe Dimaggio (99) (1941)

Dimaggio will take up residence in center field and will hopefully provide not only a solid defense, but a solid bat in the lineup as well. Cool Papa Bell will be sent to the reserves. When Waffletown builds a Hall of Fame for the top players in Syrups history, Bell will most definitely be an inaugural member.

Management would like to extend its utmost appreciation for Bell's many years of service to the team. Joining the club in the 2030 season, Bell would spend the next 34 years patrolling the outfield and tearing up the basepaths. He would rack up 6258 hits, 3362 runs scored, 2578 stolen bases, 1895 RBIs, and a 102.6 career WAR. In the outfield, he had 12010 putouts, 350 assists, and a positive zone rating of 295.1

You've compiled an intimidating lineup of vintage players. I'd wager you'll be landing a PL title soon. Me and Elmer Flick will be waiting for our tickets in the mail so we can cheer you on from the ridiculously sticky Waffletown bleacher seats.

In an unexpected move, Waffletown brought aboard yet another new player for the stretch run. Joining the squad:

2B - Snuffy Stirnweiss (93) (1945)

Management hopes Stirnweiss' exceptional defensive abilities will help solidify the infield behind the pitching staff. Stirnweiss will begin as backup to second, third and shortstop so he can build up his experience at all three positions (as well as to not upset the chemistry of the starting squad, since they are on a roll right now). To make room, Cecil Travis will be sent to the reserves.

(narrator note: didn't realize when I picked up Joltin' Joe that it also completed a mission that awarded Stirnweiss and a diamond pack until I browsed through my incomplete mission list )

Management would like to thank Travis for his many years of service to the club. Travis joined the Syrups in the 2021 season and was a fixture in the starting lineup for 32 years before shifting to a backup role later in his career. During his time in Waffletown, he racked up 5780 hits, 2256 runs scored, 183 home runs, 1487 doubles, 2307 RBIs, and a .291 career average. In the field, he spent the bulk of his time at second base, where he appeared in 4749 games, had 12461 assists, turned 3264 double plays, with a .991 fielding percentage and a positive zone rating of 68.1
