After two solid outings on the road in game 1 (5-3 Waffletown victory) and game 2 (6-1 Waffletown victory), the Syrups were brimming with confidence as they took the best of 5 series back home to try and finish off the top seed in the conference.
In game 3, Nice showed why they were the top seed, handily taking the game 9-4 to avoid the sweep. Game 4 saw one of the largest standing-room-only crowds ever to fill the Spile, hoping to see their boys clinch the LDS and move on in the post season. Fourth slotted starter Max Lanier took the mound and pitched a masterful game, spreading 5 hits over 8 innings of work. Closer Chief Bender took over in the 9th to shut down Nice and preserve the shutout for a series clinching 2-0 victory. "Just need to stay focused." said shortstop Johnny Pesky, to continue the team mantra. First baseman George Sisler picked up the MVP award for the series for his solid .600 batting average, 1 home run and 5 RBIs Waffletown moves on to the LCS to face the Weed City Puffers. The two teams met 6 times during the regular season, with Weed City taking the series 4 games to 2. Last edited by stl jason; 12-29-2019 at 02:10 PM. |

After a strong start in game 1 with a 9-6 victory, Waffletown suddenly forgot that they still needed to win more than just that single game, and instead choked once again 4 straight games to drop the series 4 games to 1.

In a prime example of "every win counts", Waffletown came up one win short of the second wild card spot and missed the post season for the first time in five years.
Barring a blockbuster find by the scouting department, management has no plans for any lineup changes heading into the next season. |

In more uplifting news, the Waffletown tourney squad picked up a nice victory in the 1625 cap tournament (backup outfielder, Pete Gray batted a solid .500 in his limited appearances).
This marks the Syrups 49th tourney title. |

Waffletown celebrated once again as their boys secured yet another trip to the post season with their 4th ever 100+ win season (101-61). Unfortunately that was only good enough to nab the top wild card spot as they finished 2 games back of their own division lead (all five playoff teams in the AC had 100+ wins).
"Gonna be a hard slog no matter what position you're in this season." said outfielder Sherry Magee. Magee had a solid season for the club, finishing with the team triple crown in home runs (21), RBIs (113) and average (.314). He also picked up 51 stolen bases and led the team in runs scored with 102 Waffletown will face the Columbus Lions in the wild card game. The two teams met 7 times during the regular season with Columbus taking the series 5-2 |

A capacity crowd at the Spile celebrated into the night as their Syrups claimed a tight wild card match 3-2.

A standing room only crowd at the Spile erupted in celebration as they watched their boys pull off the upset, taking down the top seeded Meltdowns 3 games to 1. Waffletown pulled off two solid wins on the road in games 1 and 2. Hoping for the sweep, they stumbled in game 3, coughing up the lead late and handing the win to Chernobyl. A tag-team effort in game 4 from Lefty Gomez, Paul Dean and Chief Bender punched the team's ticket to the LCS.
Syrups shortstop Johnny Pesky earned the LDS MVP award with his team leading .429 average and 3 RBIs. Waffletown now waits to see who they will face next as the LDS match between La Guaira Tiburones and Eureka Mallards sits at 2 games apiece. During the regular season, Waffletown met La Guaira six times, splitting the series 3-3; while they faced division rival Eureka 19 times, with Eureka taking the series 11-8. |

For the first time in their history, the Waffletown Syrups are going to the World Series at the Perfect tier.
After dropping the first game on the road 5-3, Waffletown made the turnaround and rattled off four straight victories to defeat Eureka 4 games to 1. "It's been a long time coming." said relief pitcher Mort Cooper. "Now we just need to keep our focus for one more series. Just getting here can't be enough... we need four more wins to make it all worthwhile." Outfielder Sherry Magee was named the LCS MVP. He batted an impressive .474 in the series with 4 RBIs. |

thanks... gonna be a tough hill to climb (and by tough, I mean impossible to the point where if I win a single game I'm considering it a moral victory, as this bunch has won 120+ games every year for the last 30+ seasons or so). Waffletown will face off against the Battery Park City Tamps (126-36, and 11 time Perfect tier champs). The two teams didn't not play during the regular season, so it will be a learning experience for both sides. Last edited by stl jason; 01-12-2020 at 09:09 PM. |

A telegram arrived at the Waffletown general manager's office from one of the team's scouts:
"Found this one wrestling an alligator along the side of the road. Locals said he was a top notch pitcher. Figure if he doesn't pan out as a hurler for the club we can always start up a side-show and buy an alligator to entertain folks in between innings." Joining the squad next season: SP - Rube Waddell (100) https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/a5b2c2b4 To make room on the staff, Paul Dean will be sent to the reserves. Max Lanier will shift to the bullpen and Waddell will take his spot on the starting staff. |

Perfect tier World Series, game 1:
With a match-up of Walter Johnson vs Ed Walsh, game 1 went about as expected. No scoring until the 5th inning and a low scoring affair overall. When the dust settled, Battery Park City emerged victorious 3-1 to take the early lead in the series. |

Perfect tier World Series, game 2:
In another impressive pitching match-up, Pedro Martinez faced off against Harry Brecheen. Battery Park City jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and rode that all the way to the 7th; when Waffletown finally broke through Martinez to tag him for 3 runs. Unfortunately for the Syrups, they couldn't hold the lead and the Tamps scored 1 run in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th to claim the walk-off win and stake themselves to a 2-0 series lead heading to Waffletown. |

Perfect tier World Series, game 3:
After dropping the first two games on the road, Waffletown knew that game 3 was, for all intents and purposes, a must-win game. If they fell behind 3-0 in a best of 7 series, especially to a team like this, it was all over. Smoky Joe Wood took the mound for the Syrups to face off against yet another top notch opponent in Cy Young. Waffletown managed to tag Young for 3 runs in the 2nd inning and Wood would make that hold up as he only surrendered 2 runs of his own. The Syrups would add 2 more runs for insurance and claim the victory 5-2 to narrow the series deficit to 2-1 |

Perfect tier World Series, game 4:
Dwight Gooden faced off against Lefty Gomez in the 4th game and as expected it was another nail biter affair. Waffletown managed to eek out a victory 3-2 and tied up the series 2 games apiece. |

Perfect tier World Series, game 5:
In a rematch of game 1, Walter Johnson once again faced off against Ed Walsh; and once again it was a pitcher's duel for most of the game. Battery Park City took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning, only to see Waffletown tie it up with a run of their own in the 6th. In the top of the 8th, the Tamps would add 2 more runs off reliever Wilcy Moore; and then another run in the 9th off reliever Paul Dean to take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th; where they would hand the ball to their closer, Mariano Rivera. First batter, Sliding Billy Hamilton stroked a single off an 0-1 pitch to lead off. The next batter, Sherry Magee, knocked a single of his own off a 1-0 pitch, pushing Hamilton to second. Next up was George Sisler. After taking a ball and fouling off the next pitch, Sisler got a pitch way inside that plunked him in the side, and he trotted down to first to load the bases with nobody out. Harry Heilmann stepped to the plate. He took the first pitch for ball 1. Pitch number two he fouled off into the stands for a 1-1 count. Rivera smoked a fastball by him for a swing and a miss on pitch 3 to take the count to 1-2. Heilmann took a tremendous cut at another fastball the next pitch but swung and missed to strike out for the first out of the inning. Next up, second baseman Red Schoendienst. Rivera fired a first pitch fastball by him for strike 1. The second pitch was low and inside to even the count 1-1. Pitch number 3 was a 99 mph cutter. Schoendienst connected and the Spile immediately erupted as the ball sailed well over the fence for a game winning walk-off grand slam to give Waffletown the 5-4 victory and a 3-2 series lead, as they headed back to Battery Park City. |

Perfect tier World Series, game 6:
In a match-up of game 2, Pedro Martinez faced off against Harry Brecheen once again. However, if anyone was expecting another pitcher's duel, they were surprised to watch as the Tamps rocked Brecheen for 6 runs in 1.2 innings of work, and would go on to crush the Syrups 13-4 to even up the series 3 games apiece. |

Perfect tier World Series, game 7:
In a rematch of game 3, Smoky Joe Wood went up against Cy Young in the winner-take-all final game of the series. Unfortunately for the Syrups, the offense of Battery Park City proved to be too much as they claimed their 12th Perfect tier title, defeating Waffletown 6-2 in the series clincher. |
