decided to expand the pool of potential players a bit (already did in a way with Pesky), and bring aboard Nellie Fox as an infield backup player. Fox will replace long time Syrup, Joe Sewell on the roster.
Management would like to thank Sewell for his many years of service to the team. Sewell joined the club in their inaugural season of 2020 and has been a reliable backup at second, short and third. |

Nothing that special about this game overall.... just impressed that Max Lanier (6 ip), Paul Dean (2 ip) and Wilcy Moore (1 ip) gave up 11 total hits and still got the shut out

A raucous crowd at the Spile celebrated with their team as Waffletown notched a 7-4 victory over the Little Canada Walleyes and punched their ticket to the post season by claiming one of the wild card spots. This will be only the second time the Syrups have appeared in the Perfect tier post season (first was a wild card birth in 2046). |

Hopes are riding high in Waffletown this year as the Syrups closed out September with a 12 game winning streak to finish with their best record ever at the Perfect tier of 91-71. The sound of champagne corks popping filled the clubhouse as the team celebrated it's second post season birth at the top level.
"Hopefully this won't be the last time we hear this sound this season." said closer Wilcy Moore. Moore picked up the pitcher of the month award for September with his solid play (12 appearances, 17 IP, 3-1 record with 8 saves, 12 Ks and a 1.59 ERA). While Moore has nothing to say about it, teammates point to his 47 saves and 3.18 ERA as a solid case for him being a strong candidate for a third Reliever of the Year award. After a dismal performance at the top tier last season (69-93) where they barely avoided relegation; management discussed the possibility of dismantling the team and taking it in a new direction. While the team has been a solid Diamond tier performer (852-606 lifetime record at that tier), they haven't had much success at the top tier. The solid performance this season at the Perfect tier returned a bit of confidence to management that the team they have assembled is good enough to compete against the best. At the plate, Cool Papa Bell (110 runs scored) and Sliding Billy Hamilton (100 runs scored) did their part as the table setters. In the 3 and 4 slots, Harry Heilmann (130 RBIs) and George Sisler (100 RBIs) did their part to drive them in. Heilmann also tied the team RBI streak record of 9 (matching his own mark from 2034, and George Sisler from 2050). On the mound, all 5 starters notched 10 wins or more, with the big three of Smoky Joe Wood (15-10), Max Lanier (15-9) and Lefty Gomez (17-10) getting 15 or better each. (Wood also set the single season team record for innings pitched with 252.1). At the backend, reliever Sad Sam Jones (.208 opp avg, and 181 ERA+) and the previously mentioned Wilcy Moore were two of the strongest contributors. For team records, the club set a new low for batter strikeouts with 592, breaking the old record of 614 set in 2026. On the mound, the pitching staff set a new all time low mark for home runs allowed with 98, breaking the old record of 104 set in 2026 and 2034. Waffletown will face the Rocky Mountain Knights in the wild card game. The two teams met 7 times during the regular season, with the Syrups winning the series 4 games to 3. |

Waffletown put up a 5 spot in the second inning and Mort Cooper made it hold up as the Syrups emerged victorious over the Rocky Mountain Knights 5-2 in the wild card game.
Waffletown will move on to face top seed and division rival the Dalton Storm Kings in the LDS. The two teams met 19 times during the regular season with Dalton squeaking by 10 wins to 9. "It's anyone's game at this point." said staff ace Smoky Joe Wood. "Anything can happen in a short series." |

The sound of champagne corks popping one again sounded in the Waffletown clubhouse as the Syrups went the distance against Dalton and emerged victorious 3 games to 2 in the LDS for their first ever Perfect tier playoff series victory.
"It's been a long time coming..." said original Waffletown member Freddie Lindstrom. "...but there's still a long road to go. We need to keep our focus and bring home eight more wins." shortstop Johnny Pesky was awarded the series MVP with his 9 for 18 performance at the plate. Waffletown moves on to face the Del Boca Vista Costanzas in the LCS. The teams met 6 times during the regular season with Del Boca Vista taking the series 4 games to 2. |

In a disappointing end to an otherwise successful season, Waffletown's offense vanished in the LCS, only managing to score 7 runs (5 in game 3) as they quickly went down 4 games to 0 to Del Boca Vista.
Management looks forward to next season and hopes the club can perform even better, as they still search for that elusive Perfect tier championship. |

At the all star break, fans of Waffletown are enjoying every moment of the current season and quietly hoping the bubble won't burst anytime soon. After their best season ever at the top tier last season, most fans weren't sure what to expect this year, even though it was the exact same lineup. The team started off with a decent month of April (15-12), and turned up the play a notch in May (19-10) to sit atop the AC Central division.
In June, the Syrups kicked it up another notch, rattling off 19 more wins versus only 7 losses. Just over halfway through July, they Syrups have padded their division lead to 9 games with their 63-35 record. "We're trying not to think too much..." said second baseman Cecil Travis (currently 3rd in the AC batting race with his .334 average). "...just trying to stay in the moment and take it day to day." |

and in other news.... with the advent of barnstorming tournaments around the country to give players on the reserve rosters a chance to show their stuff, the Waffletown Syrups sent the best of their gold level players to a 128 team battle royale. (some current regulars played as well).
When the dust settled, Waffletown emerged as the last team standing! First tournament win for the Syrups. |

The Syrups rolled over me at one point, today. But I don't think it was that particular tourney up above.
So many, many people rolled over my junior teams today. Sigh. Neither team has been collecting cards for nearly enough weeks to have any shot in those tourneys, but we're giving it the old college try anyhoo! The senior team's also taking it's whuppings with a smile. |

must have been something in the water yesterday in Waffletown.... I was the last team to sign up for a daily live-only gold tourney with about 30 seconds left in the reset timer, even though I only have something like 6 Live gold cards (figured I'd burn a quick tourney entry to help them kick it off and not have it reset another 24 hours)... with only 6 Live golds I thought I'd be a quick one-n-done... instead they kept rolling along... think they made it to the semi finals before bowing out, so nabbed me a free pack best two tourney runs I've had so far and both on the same night. |

Oh no, the Hysterically Silver Penguins vs the Syrups, one game each in a best of three...:chews fingernails:
The suspense! Oop, the Syrups wasted a 7 run 1st inning. Final 13-9. Anyone else having more fun watching the tourney wild randomness roller coaster than the regular season games this week? Last edited by Lemandria; 11-15-2019 at 08:01 PM. |

The champagne flowed freely once again in the Waffletown clubhouse as they Syrups punched their ticket to the Perfect tier post season for the second consecutive season. The taste was all the sweeter thanks to the fact that the club secured their first ever Perfect tier division crown with their best top tier finish ever at 94-68.
"We stumbled a bit down the stretch, but won when it mattered to hold on." said pitcher Max Lanier. Management knows they have a tremendous mountain to climb in the playoffs as every other division winner won 100+ games (with the top team destroying the league at 139-23). Waffletown will face the Cincinnati Reds in the LDS. The two clubs met seven times during the regular season, with the Reds dominating the series 6-1 |

The Spile erupted with such a thunderous roar that seismic monitoring stations nearby registered what has been now labeled as a 'fan quake' as Waffletown defeated Cincinnati 7 to 3 in game 4 of the LDS to take the series 3 games to 1.
Second baseman Cecil Travis was awarded the series MVP award for his scorching .563 average and team leading 6 RBIs. "The ball just seemed the size of a grapefruit." a champagne soaked Travis remarked after game 4. Waffletown will move on to the daunting take of facing the New Orleans Brees, who won a staggering 139 games during the regular season. The two teams met 7 times, with New Orleans dominating the series 6-1. |

As expected, the LCS was a lopsided affair, with New Orleans using their brooms to sweep aside Waffletown in 4 quick games.
"We still have a long way to go before we can compete with the likes of them." said outfiedler Billy Hamilton. |
