Rebuilding the Mariners

A recent thread that began with the Mets drifted into lamentations about the plight of the Seattle Mariners, who appear to be addicted to collapses.

Being a recent returnee to the Pacific Northwest (after a six decade hiatus - as a boy, I went to Sicks Seattle Stadium to watch the Rainiers), I'd like to make a Mariners rebuild my next OOTP project. My past success with rebuilds is less than impressive, so I'm hoping that kind souls will offer tips. (I already know that the team could use relief pitchers who don't think that "most blown saves" is a stat to aim for.)

As a huge Mariners fan I have been meaning to do this for awhile but its also very hard being a fan of a team and tearing them down to rebuild. I tried once and the first thing I did was force retired Felix. Always been one of my favorites and knowing nobody would take that contract I couldn't just watch him pitch somewhere else and struggle. So...retirement.

Do you think Felix has anything left? I would start a Ms rebuild by forcing a team sale as they need new ownership. I would replace Servais immediately.

Actually what I was thinking about was going back to 2018 and keeping that team together (maybe minus Cano) and adding top notch free agents to see how far they could go. I did not realize how much I would hate them rebuilding once again, and having it done so poorly to start. At least last year's team was fun for about 90 games... Sometimes being a Mariners fan is really difficult. I find myself wanting them to lose until they fire Servais and that is just mean spirited. I do not like thinking so negative but after rooting for them since 1977 can you really blame me?

Hey! The first 15 games this year were fun. And once in a while the team looks real. It's worth watching games in hopes of glimpsing one of those moments. Alternatively, one can gasp in astonishment at the bullpen's knack for blowing leads in the last two innings.
