Openings in two different historical leagues
Detroit Stars, Transcontinental Baseball Association: started in 1870, the TCBA is now entering the 1922 season with offense exploding. Babe Ruth just broke the single-season record with 50 HR. The league is a mix of historical and fictional players (including historical minor leaguers), with fictional independent and international leagues from which players can be purchased. Scouting is on, adding a layer of challenge and uncertainty. This league has been around for many years, with a dedicated core of owners, many of whom have been around since at or near the beginning.
Detroit was a long-suffering franchise with 12 consecutive sub-.500 seasons before an existing league owner changed teams and aggressively rebuilt them, turning out an 88-74 squad last season. He unfortunately had to leave but has built a good young organization that needs someone to continue the process. Oakland Oaks, Continental League: modeled on the proposed third major league of the 1950s, the CL started with ten teams in MLB's largest unserved markets, then expanded to 16 teams in its second season. We are now entering our third and the league is beginning to grow in prominence. This past season, MLB and the CL reached an agreement on the first free agency system in baseball history, with MLB players becoming free agents after ten years. This has resulted in the signings of players like Al Kaline and Bobby Richardson, along with aging greats in the twilights of their career like Hoyt Wilhelm. If you act fast, you might be able to sign Ernie Banks before someone lands him. We also shared an amateur draft for the first time, and CL teams have first crack at MLB players in the Rule 5 Draft. The CL is currently at 50% of MLB's finances and so we still mostly take their castoffs, but the gap between the two leagues is expected to continue shrinking over time, which will make it a unique and dynamic league. We keep these and other leagues on our own dedicated forum. Owners are expected to be active on the forum. We do not use a program like Slack or send out email notifications, though you can subscribe to the sim updates threads to receive emails if you want. We're a longtime OOTP community and so we prefer to keep our leagues on our board. It's a fun community that talks about movies and music and books and sports and politics (ok, that last part isn't very fun). We have no set plans to upgrade to v19 at this time, though it's certain that we won't, either. These are OOTP 18 leagues for the forseeable future. Please respond by PM if interested.
