I use 2.5 for the development speeds for my leagues where players can only play 8 seasons, almost all players take 1 to 3 seasons to fully develop with that.

It's remarkable the unusual things people come up with. What kind of league is it to only allow 8 seasons?

I'm an NFL fan first and foremost so I wanted a league where drafted players would have to be able to contribute quickly. I originally played 5 season careers but I wasn't enjoying how short player careers were.

To accomplish this I have every player come in at age 20 in an offseason draft of 7 rounds (no international prospects) and they can play from 21-28 (although the game doesn't enforce the age restrictions if a team wants to put a 20-year-old draftee on their roster, it's incredibly rare that it actually happens). I used to use the age restrictions in game, up until OOTP 17 the teams would keep any players that aged out (reaching age 29) until the end of the season and auto-release them when the playoffs ended. Since OOTP 18 though, the game behaves differently with those restrictions, so I have to manually retire all players aged 29 at the end of the season. It's a very quick process to do so though.
