Good detail. I'm looking forward, if it ever happens, to see what Wheeler can do for the Phils in real life too. Looking forward to following along, to see how things turn our for the Fightin Phils, but also for the league in general.

Closer Raisel Iglesias loaded the bases again on two walks and a single, then allowed a game-tying single to Luke Voit, but Michael Lorenzen nailed Giancarlo Stanton at home trying to score the winning run. Mark Payton (who had five hits on the day) homered in the top of the tenth to give the Reds an 8-7 lead. But the Yankees came storming back to tie in the bottom of the inning with another clutch hit from LeMahieu (who leads the league with a .427 average) before leaving the bases loaded. The clubs then traded zeroes for the next five innings before Trevor Bauer, pressed into service as a reliever, walked in the winning run.

Orioles 4, Royals 3. The Orioles took a 4-1 lead into the ninth, but the bullpen did its best to fritter those runs away. Tanner Scott loaded the bases with two hits and a walk, and Richard Bleier came on and walked two more to cut the lead to one before finally ending the game on a forceout. Keyvius Sampson got the win for Baltimore.

Twins 6, Tigers 3. Josh Donaldson's three-run home run made the difference for the Twins. Randy Dobnak had to leave with an injury after just two batters, but the five Minnesota relievers were effective in the win.

White Sox 4, Rangers 3. The Rangers took the lead into the ninth inning, but Yoan Moncada tied the score with a one-out single. Jose Abreu then drove in the game-winner with a sac fly. The Rangers wasted a solid effort by Corey Kluber, who pitched six innings, and Elvis Andrus had three hits for them.

Rays 4, Athletics 1. Yonny Chirinos pitched 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball for the Rays. Brandon Lowe hit a two-run home run for Tampa Bay.

Four innings later, George Springer hit a walk-off home run to end it. Andrelton Simmons had four hits and Mike Trout had three, including his league-leading tenth home runs, for the defeated Angels.

Padres 9, Diamondbacks 0. Injuries to Garrett Richards and Luis Patino didn't hold back the Padres, who saw eight pitchers combine for the shutout, striking out fifteen in the process. Eric Hosmer homered and drove in four for San Diego.

Mets 5, Brewers 4. Michael Conforto's two-run double in the eighth inning led the Mets to the win. Pete Alonso had a three-run home run earlier in the game. Edwin Diaz locked things down for his fifth save.

Talk about the old boys network, after Kapler's total failure in Philly, making some of the most bizarre and stupid game management moves, the fact that he was able to get another managerial job is mind boggling.

When I saw this cartoon, it reminded me of dunderhead Kapler. Nola has a three hit, 90 pitch shutout going after seven innings, and Kapler pulls him, and lo and behold the Phillies bullpen blows the game. One of many knucklehead moves by a guy who should, at best, be managing middle school games.

I didn't necessarily object to some of the moves that Kapler made- I think the general tendency towards removing starters earlier rather than later makes a lot of sense as we've learned more about the times through the order penalty. But he did not do a good job explaining the rationale to the media, and even more so, he did not do a good job getting his players to buy in. I was definitely surprised the Giants hired him given how things went in Philadelphia...
