IX. 1899 SEASON

SUPER LIGAN

- The 1899 Super Ligan season was the fifth season of professional baseball within the Koana Islands. It began on 27th of March 1899 and concluded on the 8th September the same year. It was the first season of the Körsbärstad Devils and Thomassmåstad Eagles who became the 13th and 14th teams to join the league.

- The Blidområde Wild clinched their fourth successive Super Ligan title with 110 wins, equalling the record of wins in a season which was set by the Wild last year.

- Neo Olsen was superb on the mound for the Champions, going 17-3, with a league-leading1.93 ERA in 182.1 innings pitched. He also had a 1.03 WHIP, 11.8 K/9 and a WAR of 8.1 which helped claim Pitcher of the Year for the first time.

- Some terrible news during the season was the end of André Westermark's career. The two-time Pitcher of the Year had started the season with four losing decisions in five starts for the Warlocks before a torn UCL on the 21st of April forced him to retire at 27. He leaves a legacy of eight 15+ K games, as well as a no-hitter and a Triple Crown that he achieved in 1895.

- Whilst on the subject of Pitchers, Lage Gulliksson's first game as a Grenada King ended in a shutout, before finishing the year with a 16-5 record from 31 games started. He led the league in Innings Pitched (211.2), Strikeouts (257), and WAR (8.2).

- The loss of Gulliksson hurt Vizhune badly, as they slumped to their worst finish ever in part to some poor performances on the mound. Helmer Petersson led the league in K/9 with 12.0, but Sebastian Mathisson was next best accruing a paltry 4.30 ERA in 31 starts. Mats Hultman was outstanding at First Base once again, claiming his second MVP award for putting up some impressive numbers, including a .343 batting average and a .449 on-base percentage this year while racking up 38 doubles, no triples, 54 home runs, 138 RBIs and 127 runs scored. He received 14 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Ferdinand Riemer of the Ängelar Armada finished second in voting, while Alfons Boden of the Conneaut Centurions finished third.

- Omfattandestad had a huge change in fortunes this year to finish runners-up, in part due to the breakout season of Rookie 1B Oskar Krantz. The power-hitting 22-year old batted .281 in 116 games this season and finishing with 128 hits, 38 home runs, 105 RBIs and 77 runs scored. His season came to a premature close in early August when he broke his hand, but was still the clear winning of the Rookie of the Year award.

- Simon Falk continued to show why he is fast being known as "The Contact King", when he smashed the hitting streak record of 32 held by Halvar Nilsson. The 29-year old Center Fielder reached on a base hit for 36 consecutive games through the month of April before eventually going hitless against Embleton. To make his season even better, the Sandford Stad Bulldogs lead-off hitter picked up his fifth straight Gold Glove award. He still hasn't hit a home run since 1896, either.

- Halvar Nilsson had another strong year before breaking his elbow in late August, a few days before Blidområde won the title. It'll be his last year at the club as he enters Free Agency for the second time in his career.

- Thomas Petersson announced in late September that next season would be his last before he steps aside. Possible replacements include Kalle Thunberg from Omfattandestad and Vilgot Forsberg from Ny Auckland Warlocks.

- Super Ligan are in advanced talks about merging with the Koanian Baseboll Förbund to form a second division, discussions are on-going.

BASEBALL MEISTERSCHAFT

- The 1899 Baseball Meisterschaft season was the second season of professional baseball in Günsovölk. It began on the 18th of April 1899 and concluded on the 17th September the same year.

- The Shoof Pirates won their second straight title, romping to victory to finish 32 games clear of the chasing pack. Theodor Horn gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .363 as he collected 182 hits, 33 doubles, 4 triples, 66 home runs and 172 RBIs to clinch Most Valuable Player for the season. He received 8 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Team-mate Marquart Shafer finished second in the voting, whilst Loring Young of the Hüll Clippers finished third. His 66 homers smashed the previous record set by Loring Young last season of 48 (which he manage to do again this season).

- Volker Lange managed to set a new hitting streak of 28 games whilst playing for the Schönheit Anglers. The 26-year old achieved the feat during the wanning weeks of the season, eventually going hitless against Druten Stadt on the 14th of September.

- Ahnüü finished bottom of the pile this season winning just 56 games in the process, but the major positive for the season was the eventual Rookie of the Year winner, Nisin Riegel. Draft third last December, the Right Fielder carved out a .320 average during the regular season, playing in 135 games and gathering 156 hits in 488 at-bats. Riegel hit 32 home runs while driving in 124 runs and scoring 75 times. He also picked up 42 walks to post a .373 on-base percentage. He finished just ahead of Shoof Pirates rookie Shortstop Jon Sjovold, who led the league in Plate Appearances.

- Whilst on the subject of rookies, last year's first overall pick by Ledigstadt was RF Hank Cooper who finished with solid numbers for the eventual runners-up. In 132 starts, the 23-year old went .295/.360/443 with 153 hits, 81 runs and78 RBIs. He hit a league-leading 19 triples and hit out the park 4 times.

- 39-year old Albrecht Otto got top honours as Pitcher of the Year for his solid work on the mound with the Küstestadt Boxers. He posted a 2.68 ERA with 12 wins, 11 losses, 140 strikeouts and 48 walks in 215 innings, including two straight shutouts in mid-April.

- Despite strong crowd figures, players have started looking towards the Super Ligan for a better pay day. President Marcel Fuhrmann admitted that lopsided scorelines didn't help the fledgling leagues chances of retaining their star players. He went on to outline that a possible expansion team might be needed in Shoof to dilute the talent pool that the Pirates currently hold.

X. 1900 PRE-SEASON

SUPER LIGAN

FREE AGENCY
- On October 8th, Omfattandestad snapped up Halvar Nilsson (.362/.420/.629) to a 6-year contract. The 32-year old contact hitting 3B was ruled out until the pre-season with a broken elbow, but a further setback in late January has ruled him out for the rest of the season in one of the biggest signing busts of all time.

- A few days later, speaking of 3B, Jonestan dipped their big toe into free agency by snapping up former Vizhune Viper Mats Skovhus (.277/.371/.602) to a four-year deal. In his five years at Vizhune, the 30-year old power-hitter has belted 252 home runs and driven in 124.

- After losing Nilsson, Blidområde were dealt another loss on the 24th of October when Leo Angstrom (79-25, 2.50 ERA, 900.2 IP, 928 K, 1.00 WHIP, 220 ERA+)signed a 6-year deal with the Thomassmåstad Eagles. The extreme groundball Starter won Pitcher of the Year a couple of seasons ago, having spent his entire career with the Wild up to this point.

- Ny Aucklanda - still reeling from the sudden retirement of André Westermark - made a couple of big splashes in November with the capture of former Jonestan SP Petter Solheim just days after watching Alberik Hölderlin (.356/.443/.590) put pen to paper on a four-year deal. 36-year old Solheim brings a wealth of experience to the Warlocks with a huge repertoire of pitches, although his age could see him decline in the coming years of the deal. For Hölderlin, his discipline at the plate is a real asset, but he spent 9 weeks on the sidelines last year with injuries where he played 2B for Omfattandestad.

- Thomassmåstad sured up their rotation, inking Erik-Johan Bengtsson to a 4-year deal after two productive years at Vizhune. The 32-year old went 24-15 in 53 starts for the Vipers, amassing a WAR of 6.7.

- Vizhune stopped the the bleeding of players by capturing former Titans Opening Day Starter Isak Modin to a 7-year deal. Having spent 5-years in the capital, Modin had a 62-37 record from 146 starts, with an ERA of 2.34, including 813 strikeouts and 180 walks. He finished with a WHIP of 1.13 and a WAR of 24.5.

- The Titans - clearly showing signs of desperation - completed a trade, picking up 40-year old Albrecht Otto and 23-year old Catcher Sandy Vignon, sending stud 2B Tore Thern (.327/.382/.412) to Küstestadt in the Baseball Meisterschaft. Otto won Pitcher of the Year last season in the GBM and will plug the hole left by Modin, but the loss of the contact-hitting Thern is a bitter pill to swallow with the 32-year old having wRC+ scores of 138 and 134 in the last two seasons.

AMATEUR DRAFT
- The Eagles chose 23-year old Ianoan SP Kieran Ferguson first overall. A certain starter in the future, Ferguson has a livery cutter and and an excellent splitter in his arsenal and will probably make his first professional start before the year is through.

- Keep an eye out for Alex Bull, whom Jonestan drafted 3rd overall behind the Devils' Elliot Wideen. At just the tender age of 19, Bull is in no way ready for the cut and thrust of the Super Ligan just yet, but has the ability to a good middle-rotation guy in the coming years.

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONS
- This season is expected to be one of the closest yet following Blidområde and Vizhune's clearouts. The Koanian Dagbladet predicts Humoor, Embleton, Conneaut and Sandford Stad all within a couple of games of each other by the end of the season, with Jonestan and the Wild not far behind.

- It's a fall from grace for Vizhune who seem to be building towards a re-build, whilst Omfattandestad also take a couple of steps backwards.

- Körsbärstad and Thomassmåstad continue their builds whilst Grenada continue to languish at the bottom of the standings.

BASEBALL MEISTERSCHAFT

FREE AGENCY
- Shoof kicked off Free Agency with the re-signing of Pankratz Pohl on October the 23rd. The 28-year old Starting Pitcher will stay with the Pirates for another 6 seasons, having won Pitcher of the Year in 1898 along with two GBM titles. The flyball pitcher has notched up a 28-11 record in 60 starts, with an ERA of 3.31 in 372.0 IP for a WHIP of 1.23, HR/9 of 0.7, and K/9 of 9.3. The day wasn't all great for Shoof who witnessed their everyday 1B Waggoner Wagner (.370/.422/.584) sign a 1-year deal with Druten Stadt. He was eventually replaced by Roger Gross (.314/.414/.570) who signed a 1-year deal in February having spent two years with Jueman.

- Jueman picked up 32-year old set-up reliever Eckert Knab to a three-year deal, despite being shipped off to Uckford in the Super Ligan mid-way through last season. That was the second time Knab was sent to the Ducks, having been traded mid-way through the 1898 season by Schönheit. Combined, he has pitched in 166.2 innings in 139 games, striking out 228 for a K/9 of 12.3 and WHIP of 1.25.

- The Windmills also splashed the cash and enticed 3B Crister Torkelinson to sign for four-years, having plied his trade in the Super Ligan since 1895. The 30-year old found himself surplus to requirements at Uckford last year and was traded to Ny Aucklanda where he platooned in all infield positions. In the Super Ligan, he made 726 starts for a slash line of .311/.382/.518.

- The following day on November 26th, the Küstestadt Boxers locked up two big signings in Wilfred Steinberg and Hanh Fischer to turn their rotation into one of the most potent in the Southern Union. Steinberg played for Jueman in the GBM's inaugural year (9-5, 4.83 ERA, 1.44 WHIP in 26 starts), but frustrated with the high-scoring games he signed a one-year deal with Ny Aucklanda last season where he struggled to make an impact in the Super Ligan, finishing with a 5-10 record and 4.68 ERA with a BABIP of .337. Fischer is also somewhat of a journeyman, spending a year with Ledigstadt before moving to Shoof last year. So far in Fischer's career, the 28-year-old starter has won 12 and lost 13, collecting 226 strikeouts with a 4.02 ERA. Opponents have hit .269 against him.

- Desperate for improvement, Druten Stadt spent big and lured Ny Aucklanda Warlocks Catcher Torbjorn Edvardsen over on a 3-year deal in late December. The 33-year old spent 5 years at the Warlocks where he played in 582 games, making 2404 plate appearances for a slashline of .315/.372/.450. He was considered an average Catcher in the Super Ligan.

AMATEUR DRAFT
- Ahnüü snapped up Leonhard Hansen first overall in the 1899 draft. The 22-year old Center Fielder has excellent speed and baserunning abilities where he projects to be a .330 hitter. He will be the everyday starter this season for the Otters.

- Druten Stadt picked up CF Wallace Leitner second who is considered more ready for the professional game compared to Hansen but lacks the high ceiling, although he is still very quick.

- Remember the name Roger Garcia who Hüll picked 6th overall. Born in Audaux, Le Grout, the pitcher can expect to be a high leverage reliever making the occasional spot start, and with his fastball topping out at 96mph, he will surely see some gametime at the Clippers.

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONS
- Küstestadt head into the season as pre-season favourites thanks a strong rotation, but the lack of power in the lineup could see the Boxers having difficulty shaking Jueman and defending Champions Shoof who are more complete teams across the whole club.

- Druten Stadt will continue to languish at the bottom of the Baseball Meisterschaft along with Ahnüü but the Hüll Clippers and Ledigstadt are likely to regress this season.

XI. 1900 SEASON

SUPER LIGAN

- The 1900 Super Ligan season was the sixth season of professional baseball within the Koana Islands. It began on 6th of April 1900 and concluded on the 21st September the same year. It was the first time since 1896 that an extra game was needed to decide the winner.

- The Sandford Stad Bulldogs won their first Super Ligan title and set a record with the fewest wins in doing so with just 94. Defending champions Blidområde finished runners-up for the first time in their history, but very nearly came away as champions once again.

- Down by two games with just two to spare, the Wild stunned Vizhune when LF Marten Dahllöf's 3-run homerun in the 8th lifted them to a 5-3 victory, whilst Joaquim Fabre blasted two homers himself to ease the Broncos past Sandford Stad.

- However, a win on the final day would still gift Sandford Stad the title, even with Blidområde smashing the Vipers 11-5 earlier in the day. Joaquim Fabre's RBI single in the bottom of the first was cancelled out by Bulldogs first baseman Elias Forsbrand's solo HR in the top of the 4th. The Bulldogs sqeezed ahead in the 7th on Theo Fagerholm's sacrifice fly plating Elias Forsbrand who had doubled and then moved to third on an error before Dennis Szalkai's Sac Fly in the 8th gave Sandford Stad a 3-1 lead. 34-year old Jean Jenssen was called from the bullpen and made light work of the Broncos 8th inning with two strikeouts prior to Alf Torkelinsson becoming a groundout victim for the first out in the bottom of the 9th. Malte Gundersson launched a deep solo shot into the right field bleachers and suddenly the crowd were nervous. Pinch hitter Oliver Dahlengren singled but Jenssen set down Adrian Lillkvist on strikes and suddenly the Doggies were just one-out away from lifting the trophy. Up stepped first baseman Mo Howells, who in his three years in the Super Ligan had amassed just 586 plate appearances and hit 11 dingers; hardly a deep-ball threat. On a 1-1 delivery, he sent one over the fence in left-center and rounded home to his second walk-off hit to stun the visiting supporters into silence. The last time he hit a walk-off? That was June 13th last season, when he blasted a solo home run in the 10th, against the Sandford Stad Bulldogs.

- With The Bulldogs ahead of the Wild on the final day, and both teams locked 6-6 in the head-to-head, Sandford Stad was given the home advantage in the extra game to be played against Blidområde. In the end, the extra game was a bit of an anti-climax as the Bulldogs ran out 6-0 winners to lift the Super Ligan trophy for the first time.

- Wild 1B Yngve Carlqvist hit for the cycle on the 9th of July in a high-scoring 19-14 victory over Vizhune. He became the 8th player to achieve the feat following Thomassmåstad's first overall pick in 1898 Leo Speltke, who went 4-5 against Ängelar. The Armada were the opposition again in early September when David Rudkilde became the third player in the season to achieve the accolade and signified the first time three or more players hit for a cycle within a season.

- Ny Aucklanda's SP Efraim Wahlström no-hit the Vipers on the 13th of May, striking out 10 and walking 1 in the 12-0 thrashing to help the Warlcoks finish third in the standings; their highest finish since winning the Championship in 1895.

- Jonestan and Uckford had their best and equal-best finishes respectivel this year, but did it without Ove Almkuist and Sebastian Mathisson in their rotations after seeing an injury end their seasons premateurly on the same day in early June. Ängelar were sandwiched between the two teams at season's end, and also suffered their fair-share of injuries with LF Ferdinand Riemer missing two months with back spasms. Knud Grano stepped up for the Northerners though, leading the league in HRs with 47 whilst batting in 109, 16 more than his closest team-mate.

- In a quirky bit of history, Jonestan sent Kim Moe to Humoor for the second time in his career. Just a couple of days after losing Ove Almkuist for the season, the Broncos shipped the 33-year old 1B to the Hawks having made the same deal in 1897. Then, two-years later, having signed with the Broncos again, he was traded to Küstestadt Boxers in the Baseball Meisterschaft before signing with Jonestan for a third time at the beginning of this season.

- The biggest piece of news during the season was Omfattandestad sacking manager Jösse Samuelsen on the 30th of May. Languishing in 13th place with a 18-32 record, owner Kalle Thunberg pulled the pin on the contract, replacing him with former Armada Bench Coach Torkel Johncke who finished the season with a 51-53 record. Offense minded, Johncke loves to play smallball and is hoping to blood in some younger prospects and turn the team around. His contract expires at the end of 1901.

- A major deal that Johncke completed early-on was trading with Conneaut for Left Fielder Alfons Boden. The 31-year old is a free agent at the end of the season but is believed to be disillusioned with life at the Centurions who he has been with since the league began in 1895.

- Thomas Petersson announced in late September that next season would be his last before he steps aside. Possible replacements include Kalle Thunberg from Omfattandestad and Vilgot Forsberg from Ny Auckland Warlocks.

- A number of single-season records were broken this year, namely Lage Jensen regaining top spot in the most stolen bases over the season with 50. The Embleton Gunner has his record eclipsed in 1898 by Liam Maloney when he played for Conneaut (he is now a reserve for Vizhune). A string of injuries prevented Jensen reaching the record previously. Jönn Stedholm set an infamous record of number of strikeouts by a batter in a seaosn with 248. The 24-year old 1B set the record with the Devils, smashing the previous record also held by him of 216, which he set last season during a split year with the Devils and Eagles. Bulldogs shortstop Fredrik Wanberg set the doubles record with 57, knocking Torkel Koch off top spot with his 56.

- On the mound, Jonestan Closer Anders Rasmussen set a new saves record of 48, Grenanda's Lage Gulliksson equalled André Westermark's 1898 record of 228.0 innings pitched and picked up Pitcher of the Year for the second time. Embleton's Carl Anckarström gave up 43 HRs, eclipsing the previous record of 41 that he set in 1896.

- He may only be 26, but it will be hard to top the third baseman Robin Talman's 1900 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the Super Ligan Most Valuable Player Award. His winning campaign featured a .335 batting average and a .385 on-base percentage this year. In 154 games he piled up 209 hits, 54 doubles, 3 triples, 36 home runs, 127 RBIs and 103 runs scored. He received 14 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Lage Jensen of the Embleton Gunners finished second in voting, whilst his team-mate John Lane finished third.

- Super Ligan comes to a deal with Koanian Baseboll Förbund to form a second division. After Kalle Thunberg and Vilgot Forsberg were against the proposal, Thomas Petersson was voted back in for another 5-year term during the owner meetings. Following advice from the English Football League, two teams will be promoted from Division Ett with the bottom two teams relegated from the Super Ligan.

- Division Ett will consist of the following teams: Bryankeld Panthers, Erana Kullar Wolves, Hamnområde (Humoor) Seagulls, Innerstad (Omfattandestad) Pigeons, Jarnekdal Islanders, Jordnot Kanjon Prowlers, Lerastalle Blues, Nyhamn Royals, Nyhaven Bees, Oberoendestad Cardinals, Rovaniemi Squirrels and Ruysdael Greens. Randia Stars, Guld Kust Tigers and the Hydevattnen Tridents have all applied for inclusion into the second tier and have been given verbal agreements.

BASEBALL MEISTERSCHAFT

- The 1900 Baseball Meisterschaft season was the third season of professional baseball in Günsovölk. It began on the 16th of April 1900 and concluded on the 14th September the same year.

- The Shoof Pirates clinched their third straight GBM title, holding a 13 game lead over Jueman at one point in late June before easing off the gas in the latter stages of the season and allowing the Windmills to close within a couple to make the season look closer than it actually was. Tobias Horn set a new strikeout record for pitching on the 30th of August with his 211th strikeout beating the previous record held by Rocky Kohler which he set in 1898. Horn eventually went on to accrue 226 strikeouts by seasons end.

- Shoof's other Horn, Theodor, claimed his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award. The 27-year-old veteran scorched the opposition with a .289 average, picking up 151 hits, 31 doubles, 6 triples, 46 home runs and 117 RBIs, while scoring 107 runs. He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 8. Lienhard Arnold of the Jueman Windmills finished second in voting, while Jesse Kaufmann of the Schönheit Anglers finished third with 2 first place votes. The latter claimed Rookie of the Year instead.

- The Küstestadt Boxers had a season to forget after a dip in form that started in late-May and lasted throughout June saw them fall away from the Pirates despite their "famed" rotation posting respectible figures throughout the year. Tore Thern, the 3B who the Boxers received in a trade with Omfattandestad set the GBM on fire this season, including a 33-game hitting streak which smashed the previous record of 28. He also set a new single-season hit record with 214, replacing team-mate Janos Derr.

- Hüll seemed to blow things up in late June, completing numerous trades for prospects as they go into full rebuild mode following a dismal start to the season.

- Druten Stadt performed much better than originally expected thanks to rookie Wallace Leitner. The Right Fielder was expected to make his debut this year but ended up making 116 starts to finish with a slashline of .301/.362/.493.

- President Marcel Fuhrmann announced the expansion of two teams for the 1901 season, the Shoof Monarchs and Ruigoord Oarsmen will become the 9th and tenth teams to join in an attempt to break up the dominance both on and off the field of the Shoof Pirates.

KEY SIGNINGS IN FREE AGENCY
Jonestan Broncos: LF John Lane - After 5 years with Embleton (.302/.362/.512), the 28-year old picked up the Best Batter Award for his position last year when the led the league in RBIs. He signed an 8-year deal with Jonestan.

Humoor Hawks: CF Alfons Boden - Played with Conneaut since the league began in 1895 (.343/.392/.530), before being traded to the Titans midway through last season (.304/.343/.461). His bat is declining slightly, but the 6-year deal will keep him employed until he turns 37. CL Jean Jenssen - A two-year deal brings the aging stud to Humoor where his velocity still tops out at 98mph.

Ny Aucklanda Warlocks: SP Tommy Falkstrom - 35-year old Falkstrom spent the last 6 years with the Bulldogs (3.32/1.08/721-113) but will now call Ny Aucklanda home for four years. CL Ove Thern - A bit of a journeyman looking for a pay day, Thern spent last year with Uckford making 58 appearances for a career-high 30 saves. His pitching career slash line is 2.55/0.84/669-126.

Sandford Stad Bulldogs: 2B Tore Thern - Spent last year with Küstestadt Boxers (.381/.430/.480) in the GBM before returning to the Super Ligan on a 5-year deal. Previously spent four-years with the Titans (.332/.388/.419).

AMATEUR DRAFT
Thomassmåstad Eagles: The Eagles chose 22-year old SP Erik Hanssen first overall. A certain starter in the future although most likely as a reliever due to his low stamina, Hanssen has a fantastic fastball that tops 98mph, and his Curveball can be devastating.

Vizhune Vipers: Watch out for CF Cosmo Hahn who the Vipers snapped up 5th overall. The Günsovölk-native could make an immediate impact for Vizhune with his strong speed, defensive ratings and his plus contact ability.

SPRING TRAINING NEWS
Embleton Gunners LF Stephen Paul won't take part in the 1901 season following a severe concussion after running into the wall in Center Field. In his third year, the 25-year old power-hitter currently has a career slashline of .251/.308/.524.

Humoor Hawks: 26-year old SP Henri Iversen was ruled out for the season in the team's first Spring Training game against Embleton with a torn elbow ligament. The 26-year old made a career high of 30 starts last season (3.50/1.17/203-43) - his third year of professional baseball (3.42/1.17/327-69).

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONS

DIVISION ETT

MAJOR DEVELOPMENT
Guld Kust Tigers: Owner Hans Lavrsen petitioned for the expansion of Division Ett to 16 teams alongside Hydevattnen owner Fredrik Edbom after missing out on becoming one of the initial 14 teams.

Portlethen Mariners: After some skepticism, Mariners owner Theo Henriksen convinced the teams of Bryankeld, Hamnområde, Jarnekdal, Lerastalle, Nyhaven, Oberoendestad, Rovaniemi and Ruysdael to vote for the introduction of four more teams as a way to cut down on long-distance travel. Division Ett boss Alexander Persson formally ratified the changes and Randia Stars, Portlethen Mariners, Hydevattnen Tridents and the Guld Kust Tigers were hastily added to the competition.

KEY SIGNINGS IN FREE AGENCY
Erana Kuller Wolves: SS Alvin Bellman - With excellent patience when batting (.254/.336/.392), the strong defensive Shortstop spent four a half years at Conneaut following a trade from the Bulldogs in the inaugural Super Ligan season.

Innerstad Pigeons: CF Eddie Martensson - The first Super Ligan player to sign a contract with a Division Ett team. Spent three and a half years with Jonestan following a trade from Ängelar in 1897 (.252/.297/.357). The speedy 26-year old signed a five-year deal.

Oberoendestad Cardinals: 2B Eddie Ronnstrom - The everyday starter for the relocated Viksida Bombers between 1895 and 1897, and then the Warlocks for two years after that, Ronnstrom saw his career hit a brick wall when he was surplus to requirements at Uckford last year, making just 56 plate apperances in 15 games. The 29-year old (.247/.322/.348) joins the Cardinals for four years who liked his defensive ratings and good patience at the plate.

Ruysdael Greens: C Aron Blomqvist - A five-year deal sees former Titans Catcher join Ruysdael. The 33-year old spent three years with Omfattandestad before joining Jonestan in 1898 for a year. Two poor years in the capital upon returning saw him look down to Division Ett as a way to keep a spot in the lineup this off-season. He amassed a slashline of .212/.303/.445 in 762 games.

SPRING TRAINING NEWS
Hamnområde Seagulls: RF Maximilian Niebuhr caught the attention of several Super Ligan teams during Spring Training when he led the division in Home Runs with 10.

Lerastalle Blues: Were dealt a major blow in late March when CL Tycho Soerensen was ruled out for 7 weeks with an elbow inflammation. The 31-year old becomes a free agent at season's end and is hoping to impress for a possible contract from a Super Ligan team.

Nyhamn Royals: Relief Pitcher Julius Binzer tore is UCL at the end of March to bring an end to his season.

Randia Stars: Despite a considerably smaller budget, Randia led the league throughout Spring Training thanks to the power-hitting of RF Benedikt Colding.

BASEBALL MEISTERSCHAFT

KEY LOSSES IN FREE AGENCY
Küstestadt Boxers: 3B Tore Thern - Received in a trade with Omfattandestad at the beginning of last season, Thern set the GBM alight by bashing a .381/.430/.480 slash line and setting a new hitting streak record of 33 in the process. He finished second in Average, OBP and WAR whilst leading the league in Hits with 215.

Shoof Pirates: CL August Grondgrens - Joined from Jueman on a one-year deal and led the league in saves with 33, posting an impressive line of 0.93/0.76/109-16 in the process.

Ahnüü Otters: LF Sepi Schwartz - Joined from the Anglers for the 1899 season, The 28-year old is elite in all facets of his game, which showed in his slashline of .328/.393/.506 during his time with the Otters.

KEY SIGNINGS IN FREE AGENCY
Ledigstadt Mustangs: LF Sepi Schwartz - Didn't hang around in snapping up this superstar, inking him to a 5-year deal just two weeks after he filed for Free Agency.

Jueman Windmills: LF Ferdinand Riemer - Perhaps the biggest coup during the off-season throughout the Southern Union, Jueman claimed Riemer on an 8-year mammoth deal. Rookie of the Year in 1898 and Hitter of the Year in LF in 1899, Riemer is above average in all parts of his game although a long-term injury to his back last year prevented him from reaching his usual numbers.

Jueman Windmills: CL August Grondgrens - Returns to Jueman after a year at the Pirates where he won his only Championship. Keen to win favour with the fans following his departure, he signed a two-year deal just after Christmas.

AMATEUR DRAFT
Ruigoord Oarsmen: One of two new teams in the Baseball Meisterschaft this year, Ruigoord picked pitcher Felix Jensen first overall. A Koanian native, Jensen is projected to have an outstanding fastball and great stuff. He is expected to be at the front of the rotation in a year or two.

Ahnüü Otters: Picking fifth overall, Ahnüü could have nabbed a steal in the draft when they picked up 22-year old Karsten Shroeder. Whilst the youngster's stamina could prevent him from being a long-term player in the rotation, he has terrific potential that could see him develop into a big bullpen figure.

SPRING TRAINING NEWS
Shoof Monarchs: In a torried couple of days for Shoof's newest team, the Monarchs lost two potential rotation hurlers in the matter of days. 24-year old Stephan Weiner partially tore his UCL on the 17th of March in his first game for the club since signing from Küstestadt. The youngster had yet to make his professional debut. Three days later Andrew Spencer joined him on the sidelines with an elbow injury. Last year Spencer made 5 appearances for the Otters to finish 1.59/0.53/7-1 in 5.2 innings.

Schönheit Anglers: Last years Rookie of the Year Jesse Kaufmann will miss the first couple of months of the 1901 season after fracturing his ankle during a collision at second base.

XIII. 1901 SEASON

KOANA ISLANDS

SUPER LIGAN

SEASON RECAP
Ny Aucklanda Warlocks: Were rarely troubled all season, sitting atop the Super Ligan at the end of April and never looking back to eventually finish a whopping 27 games clear of second placed Jonestan whilst setting a new record of wins in a season with 113 in the process. Efraim Wahlström was strong on the mound but to be truthful, the whole teams rotation and bullpen dominated all season. Imagine if Westermark was still playing...

Jonestan Broncos: Best ever finish thanks to LF John Lane (.312/.381/.555) leading the team in batting average and RBIs whilst Jon Johannesson's (2.49/1.05/167-72) promotion to the rotation proved to be a masterstroke after five years spent in the bullpen at Uckford.

Ängelar Armada: The team seemed to be struggling at the end of July, languishing in 13th place, four games off safety and struggling for form. However, a 22-7 month of August saw them eventually finish a fanastic fifth. Ulrik Dackell (2.72/1.08/.185-45) had a strong season, along with 2B Lage Bergman (.314/.350/.397).

Sandford Stad Bulldogs: Struggled with the bat all season with 2B Tore Thern (.299/.366/.390) leading the team in batting average after Simon Falk succumbed to injury for four months in early May.

Thomassmåstad Eagles: A poor start to the season saw them battle bravely against the drop for much of the season, although a 17-11 July helped eased the pressure. Youngster 2B Leo Speltke proved key when got injured on Opening Day for a couple of months, but went on a 23 game hitting streak in July.

Embleton Gunners: Caved in to relegation with three games to play following a loss to the Omfattandestad Titans. A collapse in August (9-20) had them teetering on the edge in the final weeks. 1B Jérôme Roger (.330/.380/.528) had a breakout year, leading the league in Hits and Doubles, whilst Lage Jensen (.285/.366/.543) dropped away slightly, although he still led the league in Steals (34), Triples (11) and Runs (113).

Körsbärstad Devils: Became the first team relegated in Super Ligan history with just over a week remaining in the season. The loss of SP Elliot Wideen making his first start for the Devils on Opening Day proved costly although the lack of run support was always going to make life difficult.

DIVISION ETT

SEASON RECAP
Jarnekdal Islanders: Former Blidområde Wild 2B Ivan Kristiansen (.423/.469/.651) was instrumental in helping the Islanders become the first team to win the newly formed Division Ett. He led the league in average and OBP whilst LF Kristian Thomsen (.331/.421/.643) scored a league-leading 149 runs.

Jordnot Kanjon Prowlers: Starting Pitcher Heine Pedersen (2.35/0.97/230-47) gave a good indication of how good he is, leading the league in ERA and strikeouts, although the Prowlers had to limp over the line to win promotion, dropping their last four games of the season to Portlethen. Nyhamn dropped their last three against Innerstad helping the Prowlers move up to the Super Ligan next season.

Oberoendestad Cardinals: Relied heavily on the power-hitting of 1B Kåre Ottosson (.358/.438/.715) who belted 56 Homers and 172 RBIs and 31-year old Vetle Larsen (2.40/0.92/192-29) on the mound for a strong season, although the promotion spots sat just out of reach for much of the year. Both players are up for Free Agency at the end of this season.

Innerstad Pigeons: Will be disappointed with their season although Pitcher Oskar Andersen (3.03/1.04/186-45) threw the first no-no in Division Ett history against the Mariners on Friday the 26th of July, striking out 8 and walking two. In an interesting piece of trivia, the Catcher that day was a 24-year old by the name of Oskar Andersen (.253/.337/.449).

Ruysdael Greens: Sat mid-table for most of the season, although speedy CF Heine Henriksen (.319/.392/.575) set a Division Ett record with a hitting streak of 30 straight games in July.

Randia Stars: Surprised many at the end of April by sitting top of the standings, but slowly fell down through the subsequent months to eventually finish last and end the season on an 11 game losing streak. 1B Herman Talman (.324/.392/.429) set the hitting streak record in April with 24 games, before being beaten by his team-mate 2B Asbjørn Vestergaard (.342/.397/.548) with 29 straight games in July prior to Ruysdael's Henriksen beating that record a week later.

GÜNSOVÖLK

BASEBALL MEISTERSCHAFT

SEASON RECAP
Shoof Pirates: Clinched their fourth straight Baseball Meisterschaft title, but only just. Sitting third until the final stages of the season, SS Jon Sjovold (.353/.381/.450) led the league in batting average and hits (217), whilst CF Theodor Horn (.280/.381/.594) continued to scare opposing pitchers, belting a league leading 42 Homr Runs and 133 RBIs (the third time in a row he has led the league in that category).

Druten Stadt Centurions: Finished runners-up for the first time (they finished 3rd in 1898), despite briefly moving to the top of the table mid-way through August. Led the league in runs scored - despite the Pirates strong batting lineup - thanks to 2B Jonathan Simonsen (.347/.401/.598). The 25-year old had a breakout year and led the league in WAR (8.5), stolen bases (39) and Runs (127) to win Most Valuable Player for his efforts.

Ahnüü Otters: Had a fantastic start to the season, sitting six games clear in the early part of June, but by the following month had been caught by the chasing pack and despite lingering near the top, never threatened Druten Stadt or the Shoof Pirates for the title again. Second-year man Leo Amundsson (2.95/0.96/185-24) was great on the mound, leading the team in most categories.

Küstestadt Boxers: Pre-season favourites to challenge for the title, the Boxers rotation went awol and fielding errors cost the Boxers crucial wins as they scraped to a 500-ball finish. RF Arnim Martin (.351/.402/.470) stole 20 bases and 3B Hans Fisher (.258/.344/.512) were the lone standouts in a difficult season, with the latter grabbing Rookie of the Year in his first professional season.

Shoof Monarchs: Had a tough baptism to life in the GBM after an injury-riddled Spring Training. Slugging 2B Xavier Zimmer (.226/.308/.450) kept the Monarchs in games but former Ledigstadt LF Oskar Mann (.291/.334/.411) regressed slightly.

XIV. 1901 OFF-SEASON

KOANA ISLANDS

SUPER LIGAN

MAJOR RETIREMENTS
P Petter Solheim - Was part of the Ny Aucklanda squads in 1895 and 1901 who lifted the Super Ligan trophies, but was probably best known for his four years at Jonestan where he led the league in WHIP is 1896 and 1897 as well as WAR in 1897. Finished with a 2.41 ERA from 268 games and 131 stars. In 905.1 innings pitched, he struckout 1,152 and walked just 199 for a WHIP of 0.94 and a WAR of 33.2.

P Sebastian Backstedt - Joined Blidområde mid-way through the 1899 title-winning season, but spent four and a half years with Humoor prior to that. Ended his career with a couple of seasons at Embleton to finish with 188 starts in his career for an ERA of 3.80 and a 71-55 W-L record. He struckout 808 and walked 246 for a WHIP of 1.18 and a WAR of 24.7. He led the league in ERA in 1897 with 2.17.

KEY LOSSES IN FREE AGENCY
Blidområde Wild: LF Marten Dahllöf (.192/.357/.369) - The slugger had a bad year last season which is probably why Blidområde didn't bother attempting to re-sign the 35-year old veteran who has been with the club since the league began in 1895. He led the league in walks last season with 106 and has a career slashline of .235/.379/.516 with 300 dingers and 750 RBIs.

Conneaut Centurions: SP Ivan Ackerstrom (2.66/1.00/37-8) - After 5-years with the club, Ackerstrom has hit free agency at the tender age of 23. An extreme groundballer, he doesn't strikeout many and led the league in HR/9 with 0.4 in his 32 starts last season. His poor stamina keeps him from being a true superstar.

Humoor Hawks: CL Jean Jenssen (4.29/1.08/91-8) - Set a new personal record of 38 saves in a season last year with Humoor, but his one-year deal expired and he finds himself looking for a new club. At 35-years of age, the power-pitcher may decline faster than average, but he could still do a job for any team in the Super Ligan.

Jarnekdal Islanders: CL Erland Jorgensen (3.15/1.05/61-20 in D1) - Ranked tenth in saves last year down in Division Ett, Jorgensen has a fantastic change-up and incredible stuff, although his control can sometimes leave some nice meatballs hanging at the letters.

Jonestan Broncos: 3B Mats Skovhus (.248/.316/.499) - Two strong years with the Broncos show this 31-year old still has the power in his swing to make him a threat, although his last of two Platinum Stick Awards came in 1899 and it seems unlikely he'll achieve another.

Jordnot Kanjon Prowlers: P Tormod Knudsen (4.11/1.43/28-21 in D1) - Made ten starts for the Prowlers last season before suffering a torn ligament in his elbow ending his season in late May. At 25-years old, he still has enough movement and control in his two-pitch repertoire that he should still be able to fulfill his ambition of playing in the Super Ligan.

Ny Aucklanda Warlocks: CL Ove Thern (0.46/0.60/133-16) - So dominant was Ny Aucklanda last season it skewed Thern's stats somewhat, although he did set a new personal record of 36 saves in a season. Expect another 1-year deal from the 34-year old who has played for five different teams in the last 6 years.

Ny Aucklanda Warlocks: SS Erik-Johan Westergren (.199/.319/.320) - Has never been a strong batter, but his discipline at the plate gets him on base regularly. At the 36-years old though, his decline could be quite rapid.

Sandford Stad Bulldogs: CF Simon Falk (.297/.336/.383) - A ruptured tendon in his finger kept Falk from reaching the dizzying heights he is used to, but this base-stealing stud defensive outfielder knows how to get on base as his 7-years at the Bulldogs shows in his career slashline of .338/.379/.452 from 910 starts.

Uckford Ducks: SP Elton Duffin (2.80/1.07/218-36) - Uckford's Opening Day man for some time, Duffin's exit leaves a gaping hold in the rotation that he has been a part of since the Ducks' last season at Viksida in 1897. In 141 starts he has an ERA of 3.23 and a WAR of 20.9 with a WHIP of 1.10 whilst striking out 830 and walking 199.

Ängelar Armada: RP Martin Madsen (4.33/1.24/48-17) - Traded to the Armada in late May from Division Ett outfit Ruysdael where he was used as a Starter making seven appearances (3.30/1.05/32-11). Found the Super Ligan a bit of a challenge in his 45 relief appearances due to his average command but his stuff could see him working late innings for a lower-half team.

DIVISION ETT

KEY LOSSES IN FREE AGENCY
Guld Kust Tigers: SS Henri Mortensen (.345/.407/.442) - Set the Division Ett record of steals with 64 last season and reached base safely nearly a third of the time. Offense was high in Division Ett so the 25-year olds stats should drop next season when he inevitably signs with a Super Ligan team.

Guld Kust Tigers: CL Victor Petersen (1.90/1.09/94-17) - At 38 years of age, Petersen will be looking for a one-year deal to possibly see out his career, especially as his Slider lacks movement forcing him to rely on his Fastball.

Guld Kust Tigers: RP Erik Ohman (2.85/1.18/53-18) - Another aging star leaving the Tigers, Ohman lacks stuff to turn the heads of most Super Ligan teams and his stamina keeps him from making the occasional spot start.

Guld Kust Tigers: RP Ivar Morch (4.99/1.66/75-38) - A lack of command on his pitches as well as getting gassed early makes this player a high-risk option in free agency.

Guld Kust Tigers: SP Tore Lindlof (3.96/1.37/160-62) - Only 28, Lindlof posted good numbers in the offense-heavy Division Ett and with four pitches in his backpocket, he could be a good gamble for a lower-half Super Ligan outfit.

Hamnområde Seagulls: RF Maximilian Niebuhr (.338/.432/.690) - The 29-year old slugger who has good speed for his size will be a top target for most teams looking for a leftie with power. His major downside is his average defensive attributes.

Hamnområde Seagulls: CL Nicolai Karlsson (2.24/1.09/61-20) - At just 25-years of age, Karlsson projects as a strong option for teams in D1 pushing for promotion thanks to his great Changeup.

Innerstad Pigeons: SP Sander Pedersen (2.85/1.00/161-45) - Carrying an arsenal of four pitches, Pedersen could find himself at a top Division Ett team next season although his stamina could see him reduced to long reliever duties in the near future.

Innerstad Pigeons: SP Oskar Andersen (3.03/1.04/186-45) - Throwing the first no-no in Division Ett history will certainly help with interest from other teams, and could probably see him in the middle of the rotation for a lower-half Super Ligan team.

Körsbärstad Devils: 2B David Rudkilde (.337/.379/.440) - After one a half years with the Devils following a trade from Conneaut, 28-year old Rudkilde will be looking for a Super Ligan club after Körsbärstad were relegated last season. Has elite contact and a great eye at the plate.

Oberoendestad Cardinals: 1B Kåre Ottosson (.358/.438/.715) - Division Ett's MVP last season, Ottosson led the league in HRs (56), RBIs (172), Slugging, OPS (1.153) and WAR (7.8) making him a top free agent this year. At 28-years of age he projects as an average player in the Super Ligan, making Division Ett his ideal home.

Oberoendestad Cardinals: SP Vetle Larsen (2.40/0.92/192-29) - Led D1 in WHIP and Wins last season, the 31-year old will certainly be Super Ligan-bound with his abaility to limit home runs, although against lefties he has issues.

Ruysdael Greens: SP Sølve Carlsen (4.94/1.39/95-40) - Used out of the Bullpen by Hydevattnen before being traded to Ruysdael in late July, Carlsen found life difficult in the rotation and his low velocity will keep him in Division Ett where he will find a home with a lower midtable team.

GÜNSOVÖLK

BASEBALL MEISTERSCHAFT

KEY LOSSES IN FREE AGENCY
Druten Stadt Centurions: CL Viggo Stedholm (2.77/1.31/24-3) - Arrived via trade from Hydevattnen in Koana Islands Division Ett last season as the Centurions made a push for the Championship. Has elite stuff as well as a fastball that tops out at 95, although his control can sometimes get away from the 26-year old who saw his WHIP climb from 1.14 in D1.

Druten Stadt Centurions: SS Lazarus Knapp (.305/.393/.479) - Spent the last four years with Druten Stadt where his above-average ratings in all departments make him a desirable Shortstop for any team within the Southern Union.

Hüll Clippers: SP Ernest Arnold (5.45/1.67/95-25) - The aging star has spent four years with the Clippers, but his numbers having been going the wrong way for some time and he spends time in the injury room each season making him a risky move. Division Ett on the Koana Islands could be a good option for him.

Jueman Windmills: RP Hartmut Boehm (2.20/1.12/74-9) - Excellent stuff and movement have been an ever-present for the 28-year old righty. He spent time as Jueman's Closer in 1899 and 1900 before returning to a normal reliever role out of the bullpen last season.

Küstestadt Boxers: CL Lettel Lang (1.71/1.09/70-13) - After three years at Küstestadt, the 35-year old hits free agency for the second time in his career.
