That feeling you get when your Maddux throws a Maddux against some cruddy team with a cruddy record... only to realize it's one of your other teams that you only check on once a week or two that you didn't realize had been promoted back up to PL.

The rest of the league can feel free to actually beat the Warbirds once in a while. No, really, it's ok guys...don't leave it all up to me. lol. Should be a photo finish and we play 7 more head-to-head. A battle for the soul of North America here.
....in other news, pulled a HoF Ted Simmons! Retail value somewhere around 2 million PP.

He will need some conditioning in the minors for a couple of days. I am guessing he should be ready to go Sunday around midnight.

The Mighty Guardians up to their old tricks: they seem to always exceed my expectations. This time around, they doggedly refuse to bow to the division whale, taking 2 of 3 in the recent series to close within striking distance with 7 head to head games left.

Oh, and the Direwolves doing well also. Amazing what adding a stud defensive CF can do for your team ERA.

Pulled a 90 Larry Doby and a 95 Satchel Paige in consecutive packs which finished off the mission to get a 96 Bob Lemon all in one shot. So now I've got Feller-Lemon-Paige-Maddux-Plank as my starters with Johnson as my long reliever. Lots of pitching additions this season. We've won 12 in a row and locked up a wild card spot (and are 1 game out from locking up the top wild card) at 93-55 but we're still 7 games back in the division unfortunately, looks like it may be the second time in 3 seasons we end up with the second best record in the conference and a wild card. Oh and the Black Panthers pulled a perfect Gibson. EDIT: Just noticed that the AC in .437 has 35 PL titles. The NC has 4. Fortunately we're in the NC. We're 10-15 against the top 2 teams, so at least we have some kind of chance to make the finals. We had been 9-7 against them until we lost 8 of 9 to Victoria in the last month, 4 of the losses by 1 run. Last edited by Warhawk; 02-29-2020 at 09:33 PM. |

22 Innings to Clinch Title
Angel Fire clinches in the penultimate game, but it takes 4 runs in the 8th and a mind boggling 12 scorless innings.

The Frogs ended up 123-39 (+473) after a furious finish to the season. Things weren't looking great after a 12-12 July. But, then the Frogs went 52-8 the rest of the way, and with a 15-game streak on which to end the regular season. Not even the powerful San Angelo Warbirds (119-43, +425) could keep up. We also ended up in a virtual tie with the Portland Pirhanas (123-39, +472) who were the top team in the other conference. You know we had some good divisions when teams the ilk of the San Angelo Warbirds and Maine Gems are Wild Cards.
Standouts for the Frogs include SE Zack Wheat (hit around .350 for the 3rd straight year), SE Doc Gooden (17-4, 2.23 ERA in his rookie year), Cap Anson (.327/.401/.502 in 162 games), and Norm Cash (who refuses to bat below about .315-.320). SE Trevor Hoffman had another fine season (28 SV, 1.23 ERA) although he gave away lots of saves to teammate Red Ruffing (21 SV) in his stopper role. The Frogs will get the winner of the San Angelo Warbirds and the Hopkins Royals (92-70, +129). Pretty sure how that one will go. Frogs are 2-4 against Hopkins and 11-8 against San Angelo, but don't let those records fool you about who we'd rather play in the Division Series.

For the second time in 3 season the White Tigers finish the season with the second best record in the conference at 103-59 but will be playing in the wild card. Finished the season on a 22-4 run, 22-1 against teams not named the Victoria Vikings. Bob Lemon will be pitching in the wild card which is fine by me. The final 2 games for us were a 6-0 win where Maddux threw his namesake, allowing 3 hits and 1 walk, and a 1-0 one-hitter by Feller & Eck. Ended the season with the most runs scored and home runs, and best OBP and bullpen ERA, in the conference. Ruth ended up first in OPS, third in WAR, T6 in Home Runs despite missing the first month. Guerrero was 4th in average, second in RBIs and second in Runs. Reese and Robinson were 4th and 5th in WAR. On the pitching end of things Feller was first in Ks and 5th in ERA and allowed the lowest opposing batting average.

Got lucky my first season and went 124-38 in the iron league and won the series . Saved up my points and bought a Diamond Pack..got a 98 Wait Hoyt(never heard of him TBO) and he proceeded to win the Triple Crown in pitching this season. My 2nd season was 113-49....no way it will continue but it is really fun to see the lower rated guys tearing it up and the higher rated guys struggle in simulation.

NOTE: Cy Young had 6 starts vs the Frogs and held a stellar 1-3 5,35 ERA 1.78 WHIP and 3.98 FIP. He will not see the Frogs again this year either way. Good Luck!

P422: Final Standings
When last we checked in with the Huntley Red Raiders, they were doing well, with a solid division lead but trailing the Bangkok Tuk Tuks by 7.5 games for the #1 seed in the NC (and, really, the entire playoffs).
It's amazing what finishing a season with a 27-3 flourish will do for your playoff seeding... Despite the late-season success, it was still an odd year for the Red Raiders, best captured by the team's 20-21 record in 1-run games. Here's hoping that luck turns its bright smile on Huntley in the playoffs... 2067 standouts for the Red Raiders included the following: on the pitching side, SP Curt Schilling (23-2, 2.31 ERA, 2.82 FIP, 0.91 WHIP, 185 ERA+, 7.1 WAR) and, in a much stronger second season as a Red Raider, SP Clayton Kershaw (only 15-7 but a 2.70 ERA, 2.97 FIP, 158 ERA+, 6.5 WAR), along with CL Lee Smith (30 SV, 1.40 ERA, 2.08 FIP, 0.72 WHIP, 305 ERA+, 2.4 WAR) and, thriving for the second straight week out of the bullpen, RP Rube Marquard (37 G, 54.1 IP, 0.66 ERA , 1.63 FIP, 11.1 K/9, 0.66 WHIP, 644 ERA+, 2.4 WAR). On the hitting side, Huntley had 4 players with 5.0 or more WAR, led by 3B 99 George Brett (.324/.373/.540, 149 OPS+, 5.9 WAR), as well as RF TOTY Christian Yelich (.296/.387/.494, 26 HR, 24-4 SB-CS, 142 OPS+, 5.7 WAR), LF Mickey Mantle (.294/.369/.528, 31 HR, 100 RBI, 144 OPS+, 5.3 WAR), and CF Ken Griffey Jr (.267/.357/.507, 30 HR, 97 RBI, 136 OPS+, 5.0 WAR). Oh, and after a slow start, 3B SE Mike Schmidt proved his worth as the starting 3B vs lefties (vs L: .304/.418/.527, 159 OPS+). Unfortunately, despite improving from his ghastly start (OPS by month, April-October: .427, .630, .833, .591, .852, .781, .817), 2B Arky Vaughan's return to the starting lineup ended up disappointing (.246/.336/.353, 91 OPS+, 1.8 WAR). He will be back in the starting lineup next season, however, hopefully with all the rust shaken off and the second half of this year a better indicator of future performance than April and May... Huntley will face either the Bel Air Barleys or the Diamond Street Strays in the Division Series. The Red Raiders went 3-4 against both during the regular season (so, um, ) but, typical for this season, in weird ways. Diamond Street swept Huntley at home in April (2-3, 0-4, 6-7), but Huntley won 3 of 4 at home in May/June (6-4, 2-1, 6-7, 5-1); notice that stellar 1-3 Red Raiders record in 1-run games. Against the Barleys, Huntley won 2 of 3 at home right after the All-Star Break (5-4, 5-1, 1-2), but Bel Air got its revenge in early August, winning 3 of 4 at its home park (6-2, 2-5, 4-9, 0-1); again, Huntley was 1-2 in 1-run games. Good luck to all who made the 2067 playoffs!

Glad you aren't referring to your teams as flimsy or silly anymore!

P422: An Unexpected Sub-League Matchup on the Horizon
Huntley managed to sweep the Bel Air Barleys, thanks largely to 2 big 5th innings--a 5-run 5th in game 1, won 8-2, and a 7-run 5th in game 3, won 8-1--and outlasting Bel Air 9-7 in game 2.
Meanwhile, the Bangkok Tuk Tuks were shockingly swept by the Poughkeepsie Singles Club, 3-2, 8-6, and 4-2, so it will be the Red Raiders versus the Singles Club (sounds like a high school flashback) in the NC Sub-League Series. Poughkeepsie, earners of a Perfect League title back in 2064, are led by legendary musical group Harry Brecheen and the Double-Yews (Walsh, Waddell, Welch, and Wade [Davis]) on the mound and SEs Ichiro, Keith Hernandez, Jim Gilliam, and Rickey Henderson (and non-special [edition] Tim McCarver and Gary Maddox) on offense. Huntley went 4-2 against the Singles Club in the regular season, winning 2 of 3 at home and on the road back in June, with a not-as-bad-as-I-expected 1-1 record in 1-run games.
