Talking Off to another ALDS!!!

Turns out the Perez was very tired, so we went with another former Astro vs his old team in Rogelio Armenteros and he did not disappoint.

Joe Jimenez gave up a 2 run homer to Alvarez in the bottom of the 8th.
Doolittle was somewhat tired (68%), but if I was manager this would have been the spot to use him.
Trying to stretch him for a two inning save seems to risky in a one game winner goes on.

Also, Miggy got ejected in the 3rd inning haha. I debated whether to plug Biggio in at DH, but we need him as backup in case someone else gets hurt.

Unhappy Congrats to Cleveland!

Another hard fought playoff series vs division rivals, but again we come out on the losing end of things.

Hopefully Bieber is not injured long term. I will be rooting for Cleveland to come out as WS victors again.

Once we get to the start of the offseason I will switch over to OOTP 21.

Tough way to end the season, but plenty of promise next year! Like the way you write down your "thought process" when it comes to trades, and managing the team overall. Keep it up! Good read!

Reading through this, it's funny how many of the same players we have. I'm currently running a Mariners franchise and have the following players.

Ryder Jones
Rogelio Armenteros
Jaren Kendall
Curtis Taylor - although I lost him recently on waivers
Braden Bishop
Casey Mize
Shed Long

Talking Tampa beats Dodgers for WS Victory!!!

I can't quite believe it, but the 2021 World Series Champions are the Tampa Bay Rays!!!

Here is a picture of their end of season pitching stats! They lost Brendan McKay to injury at the end of August and Diego Castillo for over a year in September.

Only pitcher they signed in free agency was Joe Smith prior to 2021.

Here is a picture of their end of season batting stats! Couple players notes: they traded a package of nobodies for Sal Perez before 2021, Choi to get McKinney in 2019, Brett Sullivan for Jenista before 2020 and signed Souza Jr. before 2021.

Couple minor league players updates : Wander Franco just dominated AA, look for him to make the team early next April.
They still have guys like Jesus Armando Sanchez, Austin Meadows, Nick Solak and Taylor Walls in the high minors.

Tampa has moved up to 22nd in payroll.I love the production from pre-arb players they have.

Also, I found their personnel to be very interesting.GM and hitting coachs as "inexperienced".

Now time to transfer over to OOTP 21 and continue rebuilding the Tigers!

I'm playing OOTP20 and currently in the 2021 Spring Training.

Armenteros is currently my #2 SP.
Mize #4 SP
Jones - 1B/3B
Kendall - Rule 5 draft pick, he is currently my 4th OF
Bishop - starting out in minors again, could see some MLB time

Looking at the TB team you posted about, I've got McClanahan, Wong, Solak and Franco as well. Solak is splitting time with Dee Gordon at 2B, hoping Solak can take that position over in 2021.

The other 3 minors for now, we will see how the progress. Excited about a possible Wong/Bart catching tandem in the future.

Haniger and Toscano (68th ranked MLB prospect) for Glasnow and Franco.

Really curious how Franco will turn out. He will start the season down in AA and we will see how he progresses.

Smile Farewell Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander!!!

What a great career Miggy had. Too bad he had to have such a down season prior to deciding to retire.
Thankfully though he will forego the 3 remaining years on his contract (he had a team option for 2025 also) which saves us $94 million.

We will be retiring his number.

Here is a look at his final stats. Hopefully he is a future hall of famer!

Lightbulb Trout got robbed of AL MVP!

Somehow our guy Ryan McMahon won AL MVP over Mike Trout!

McMahon had a great year and a 6.6 WAR with a .942 OPS, but Mike Trout had a 9 WAR season and a .934 OPS!

Even Lindor (7.8) and Betts (7.3) had higher WAR than McMahon!

Smile Rule 5 Draft!

We went in to the Rule 5 draft thinking of maybe picking up a reliever or a backup infielder for depth, but ended up going a different direction.

Alec Bohm (former 3rd overall pick) was still sitting there at pick 22 for us. I like the idea of having him as a 1B option or our new DH even.
Currently his team expection is "bench player", so we shouldn't worry about him complaining about playing time just yet.

He had a very good 2020 in AAA, but regressed a little in 2021 (with 28 homers no less).
Normally I would avoid players like this (doesn't fit my style), but we will see how it plays out. Worst case scenario, he should have some trade value.

Arrow Ready to start 2022!!!

Here is a look at the pitchers to start the 2022 season!!!

Couple of notes on our pitching in the system.

-Franklin Perez - Since he was hurt most of last year (3 starts in AAA) he is going to start in AAA. We will see how he season goes, but his role might be bullpen in the not so distant future.

-Matt Manning and Alex Faedo join him in the rotation down there for further MiLB seasoning.

We have a trio of rookies making their MLB debuts this year.

-Zac Houston - He walks too many guys, but he has been in AAA for almost 4 full seasons now.
-Corbin Martin - We were trying to use him as a starter, but we don't have a need in AAA rotation. He has 3 good pitches, so let's see how he does in a MLB bullpen.
-Kyle Zurak - Came over in the Lourdes Gurriel Jr. trade. Had a very good season in AAA last year. He will start the season in MLB, but could be first one to option to AAA.

*Albert Abreu is out of options. He will serve as an emergency starter.

Also, I would feel a lot better if we could add a left handed reliever (or two, or three haha).

Here is a look at our batting lineups to start the season.

I don't know what to do with Willi Castro. He is still quite young (soon to be 25), going to be Arb eligible for the first time next winter, his personality is "Outspoken", but he has high work ethic.
He is also average at best in RF and we can't really move him to LF with Schrock there.
I have zero interest in moving Biggio in order to open up a spot at 2B for him either.
My game plan will be to dangle him as a trade chip for a rental bat (if we are in contention).

Also, complicating matters somewhat is Adam Haseley. He is ready for MLB, but I am going to train him up a CF to start the season in AAA.

Couple of notes on our batters in the system.

-Adley Rutschman - Had his first taste of AAA pitching last season and didn't hit for power. Probably just bad luck since the average and OBP were decent.

-Isaac Paredes - Also got to AAA for the first time last year. He did very well in 50ish games. He might be the replacement for Ryder Jones at 3B, but his defense isn't terrific at 3B.
He has low "adaptability" and low "intelligence" which is never a good combination, but hasn't seemed to affect him yet.

-Kody Clemens (son of Roger) - Had a great season in AA, moved up to AAA and kept on hitting. Lacks the "range" on D, but I am going to try him at 3B to start the season.
If Paredes isn't next in line to 3B, it might be Clemens.
Not going to lie, his "outspoken" personality also worries me.

Our hitting coach retired at start of the offseason. Here is our new hitting coach.

Arrow 38-18 at 2022 Draft Time!!!

Wow! Did not expect what a start to the season we are having!!!

Here is a look at the pitching so far.

Armenteros won Pitcher of the Month for April and Mize won it for May!

We lost Beau Burrows for 4 months after only 3 starts. We also lost Matt Manning for the season (he was in AAA).

We are going stay with Franklin Perez in the rotation for now, but we might try opener/follower with him since he only has 45 stamina.

Here is a look at our (depleted) batting so far.

Haseley has been amazing since recalled late April. Ryder Jones is having a tremendous season! Alec Bohm has been smashing the ball!

Paul DeJong somehow has a "sore elbow" and was day-to-day and then strained his oblique. We put him on IL and his return is "Unknown".

We have been playing Willi Castro at SS since Haseley took his job in RF.

Ryan McMahon also strained his oblique and is out 5-6 weeks!

Daz Cameron broke his hand and may miss remainder of the season. His stats from 2021 look to have been inflated by above average BABIP.

There is one other player I wanted to update everyone on, and it pains me to show it.

Adley Rutchman has struggled mightily at AAA this season.
Approx. 150 plate appearances and an OPS of .435
His BABIP is an unimaginable .185 during this stretch.

We have sent him to AA to try and regain his confidence.

Post 2022 Draft Recap!

With the 24th overall selection, we chose Steve Maisel, a HS pitcher from Missouri.

We ended up agreeing to an above slot signing bonus of $6,000,000.

With our 2nd round selection, we chose Murdock Zigay (what an unreal name), a HS CF from Canada.

He looks like he might have some 2 way potential, but his third pitch doesn't look like it will develop, so he would be a reliever at best.
He will try 2 way initially, but if it isn't working we will use him as a batter only.

We agreed to the slot signing bonus around $1,000,000.

We had two picks in the 3rd round (one from a failed 2021 signing).

We used the first pick on Chad Walton, a HS pitcher from NY.

We used the second pick on Bobby Needham, a college "CF" from Utah.
He looks the have the makeup of a super utility guy.
Since he is older, he will start in low A, with the hopes of getting him up to A ball before the season is over.

With our fourth round selection, we chose Tommy Phillips, a HS batter from Detroit!
He was listed as a LF, but profiles as a 1B/DH kind of guy.

With our fifth round selection, we chose Bobby Conkey, a HS outfielder from Florida.

Lightbulb We found a lefty reliever!!!

We have made a trade with the Yankees for Andrew Miller!

They had acquired him from SF this offseason and the Giants ate 30% of his salary. In the trade to get Miller, the Yankees agreed to pay the remaining 70%.

They also gave us Trejyn Fletcher, a 2 way player who was a former 2nd round pick. He doesn't look like he will be super successful as a pitcher, so we might not use him as a 2 way for long.

All they wanted in return was an outfielder we were playing in high A named Ernesto Adames.

Talking Zack Britton!!!

I was looking at the trade block and the Cubs were looking to move Zack Britton.
He signed a one year deal with them in the offseason.

So far on the season he has appeared in 32 games and here are his stats:

38.2 innings / 2.56 ERA / 1.34 WHIP / 1.4 HR/9 / 3.5 BB/9 / 10.7 K/9
Batters are hitting : .247/.315/.400/.715 against him.

Zac Houston will be sent to AAA for the time being.

Zane Collins goes to Chicago. He was our 23rd round pick in 2019 and he is 25 years old.

Thumbs up Big trade!!!

So ... Ryan McMahon was ready to come off the IL after his rehab assignment.
I had decided that Willi Castro would be the guy would send down.
Before sending him to AAA I decide to shop him and see what we could get.

The Marlins really stepped up offering Bobby Witt Jr. (Tigers pick IRL too).
I was able to add in Nasim Nunez who looks like a defense first future backup infielder.

Here is Willi Castro.

They wanted us to throw in Luke Sherley.

Here is Bobby Witt Jr.

And here is Nasim Nunez.

Bobby Witt Jr. gets his first AAA promotion and Nasim Nunez will get his first taste of AA.

Smile More bullpen help!

Cardinals had Gallegos on the block so we took them off their hands!

He was injured in spring training, but he had two really good seasons in a row prior to that.

Branden Kline and Sergio Alcantara have both declined and will both be out of options in 2023.

We also pick up a lottery ticket relief option who doesn't need to be rule 5 protected.
He hasn't succeeded in his time in high A, but that is where we will start him out at.

We need to open up a spot in the bullpen for Gallegos, so Corbin Martin will be going to AAA (possibly back in to their depleted rotation).

Red face Jake Robson won MVP of the MLB All Star Game!!!

I had a feeling Jake Robson might be a good MLB player after seeing him continuously rake in AAA. Unfortunately he struggled in his two month with us in 2021.

Here is a link to the trade:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...9&postcount=79

He hit a grand slam off Clay Holmes (PIT) in the 8th.

He is having a great season in Texas. Below is a pic from his profile page.
