Waffletown goes to extra innings to pull out the wild card victory.
The Syrups move on to face top seed and divisional rival H.B. Cube in the LCS. The two teams met 19 times during the regular season with H.B. winning the series 12 games to 7. "It's definitely going to be an uphill struggle, but anything can happen in the playoffs." said starting pitcher Ed Walsh |

The Spile erupted with a thunderous cheer as fans of Waffletown watched their boys pull out the brooms and sweep aside the 129 win H.B. Cube from the LDS.
"We've always known we have a top notch team. We just need to stay focused one game at a time." said LDS MVP, Johnny Pesky. Waffletown awaits the winner of the LDS between the St Louis River Raiders and the Squall Leonharts. edit: Waffletown will face St Louis in the LCS. The two teams met 6 times during the regular season, with St Louis sweeping the series 6-0. Last edited by stl jason; 03-15-2020 at 01:05 PM. |

The Syrups knew it would be another monumental task in the LCS facing off against the 121 win River Raiders, and they weren't wrong.... while 4 of the 5 games were close battles, Waffletown came out on the short end each time (only managing one blow-out win to avoid the sweep).
"Wait 'till next year... it's sort of our club motto." said catcher Ernie Lombardi. "Some year we'll get past that last hump." |

Good season though. Over here, DiMaggio had a solid season, leading the club with 116 RBI's while batting cleanup. Snuffy had a down year as the RH platoon mate to Eddie Collins (91), but provided his usual stellar defense at 2b.

Waffletown celebrated their finest regular season yet, with an impressive record of 111-51. Unfortunately for the club, that was only good enough to secure the top wild card spot as they finished 8 games back of the division winner.
"Just means we need one more win that the other teams to take care of business." said first baseman Bill Terry, who had his best season with the club. Terry appeared in 160 games, with 606 at bats, 223 hits, 110 runs scored, 46 doubles, 24 home runs, 122 RBIs, 7.3 WAR, and a .368 average. He went on a streak during the last 7 games (batting .536 in the process) and managed to win his first batting crown. George Sisler pulled down another 30/30 season with 31 home runs and 50 stolen bases. On the mound, Harry Brecheen had an amazing year, going 23-3, with a league leading 2.46 ERA; while Rube Waddell (262 Ks) and Ed Walsh (250 Ks) finished 1-2 in the strikeout department. At the back-end, Chief Bender finished with the most saves in the league (44) Waffletown will host the Coeur D'Alene Gerbils in the wild card game. The two teams met 7 times during the regular season with Waffletown winning the series 5 games to 2. |

The Spile celebrated another post season victory with a solid 8-3 win over Coeur D'Alene.
Waffletown moves on to face top seeded (and 135 win team) the Austin Express in the LDS. The two teams met 7 times during the regular season with Austin taking the series 5 games to 2. |

And the broom shoves Waffletown out of the post season as they failed to win a single game in the LDS.
"When you only score one run in three games, it makes it difficult to win." said designated hitter, George Sisler. "I had one job... hit the dang ball... and I couldn't even do that." (Sisler went 0 for 12 in the series). |

The Syrups started out the 2070 season with a solid first month (19-10). In past seasons, there was inevitably a rough patch at some point during the season where the team slid back into the pack. That wasn't the case this season as the team kept on the winning track month after month after month. When the regular season finally came to an end, Waffletown celebrated their best season in franchise history: 121-41, and 46 games ahead of the second place team.
"Just felt like we could do no wrong." said pitcher Rube Waddell. "Hopefully that streak continues through the playoffs." Waddell finished the year with an amazing 24-3 record, 2.62 ERA, and 249 Ks. At the plate, George Sisler was a machine when it came to driving in runs and finished just 4 short of the all-time Waffletown record. Sisler ended with 26 home runs, 141 RBIs and a .311 average. He also scored 114 runs of his own. Waffletown will face a tough battle in the playoffs as they will go up against the 118 win Chicago Rampage in the LDS. The two teams met 6 times during the regular season, with Chicago taking the series 5 games to 1. |

Waffletown jumped out to a quick 2 games to none lead against Chicago with a couple of one-run victories at home. Chicago took advantage of their home field and squeaked by in game 3 (another one-run game), before putting the hammer down in game 4 (9-1) to tie up the series and send it back to The Spile for the deciding match.
With a rematch of game 1 (Cy Young for Chicago vs Ed Walsh for Wafflletown), the Syrups turned out a matching score to game 1, once again defeating Young and the Rampage 7-6 to punch their ticket to the LCS. Waffletown will face the London Glory in the LCS. The two teams met seven times during the regular season with Waffletown taking the series 6 games to 1. "The last thing we want to do is take any team for granted. Regular season records mean nothing at this point. Those guys might be a wild card team, but they just swept the top team in the league in their division series; so we're gonna have to play all out." said first baseman George Sisler |

In a mid-season move, the GM of Waffletown pulled the trigger on a deal....
joining the squad: - Tris Speaker (98) Speaker will step into the starting lineup and play right field. Sliding Billy Hamilton will shift to a backup role for all three outfield positions, and Martin Dihigo will be sent to the reserves. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/6d9f34bd |

The familiar sound of champagne corks a-poppin' sounded in the Waffletown clubhouse as the Syrups punched their 34th post season trip in team history. While they finished with a solid 95-67 record, the team knows the toughest test is yet to come.
Waffletown will face off against the 121 win AC East winners, the Angel Fire Guardians in the LDS. The two teams met 7 times during the regular season, with Waffletown taking the series 5 games to 2. |

After taking the first game on the road, Waffletown had hopes to pull off the upset in the series; but fate was not on their side, as they dropped the next three games to lose the series 3 games to 1.
Waffletown looks towards the next season for that elusive first Perfect tier title. |

If I might make a suggestion: Redo your stadium. You currently have enough big lefty bats, combined with 2 good LH starters, you could emulate my stadium setup a bit more. Then play Waddell and Breechen at home in the playoffs. Normally you would have seen Waddell and Eppa game 1 and 2 but I slept in...

just popped in to v20 to catch this one.... hate to be on the losing end of it, but what a pitching duel!
Waffletown's Lefty Gomez pitches 10 shutout innings and it still wasn't even close to being enough.... 19 innings.... Syrups lose 1-0 in game 7 of the Daily Diamond Historical semi-finals. |

"Winning never gets old." said a champagne-soaked Freddie Lindstrom, during yet another club-house celebration for a successful regular season and trip to the post season. The longest serving player on the squad and the only remaining member of the original squad, Lindstrom has seen it all in Waffletown from Iron tier play, to Silver tier struggles, to Perfect tier regular season success... what he (nor any other member of the Syrups) has experienced yet is a Perfect tier championship.
"We don't want to get ahead of ourselves. Gotta take 'em one game at a time." Lindstrom said. Waffletown wrapped up their second best regular season in team history this season with an impressive 115-47 record. The team had their most impressive offensive display in franchise history, leading the league in runs scored (979), Batting average (.300), On base percentage (.372), OPS (.837), Batting WAR (45), and wOBA (.365). The pitching had a solid season as well, ranking 2nd in the league in runs against (610), starters ERA (3.52), FIP (3.47), and pitching WAR (36). From a team record perspective, the offensive display set new team single season records in batting average, home runs (150), runs scored, hits (1734), doubles (429), walks (634), on base percentage, slugging percentage (.464) and OPS. Waffletown will await the winner of the wild-card match between the Toulouse Alpines and the London Majors. edit: Waffletown will face off against division rival, the London Majors, in the LDS. The two teams met 19 times during the regular season, so they are quite familiar with each other. Waffletown won the season series 13-6. Last edited by stl jason; 04-12-2020 at 10:59 AM. |
