Rule 5 Draft Question

In our online league we have the rule 5 coming up but I'm not sure what the dollar amount listed next to each team in the draft rules page is? Is that a fee you pay for drafting in that slot? Is that what the player you draft salary becomes? Anyone know? The instructions aren't real clear.
This is the screen I'm talking about.... https://ibb.co/QPYYBmj

I don't think the dollar amounts mean anything for the Rule 5 draft. I don't see why they would.I think they just exist because they are using the same engine as they use for the amateur draft.

If it's a rule 5 draft then none of them have mlb contracts since they aren't in the 40 man. So they should all be for rookie minimum

Rule 5 players are all minor leaguers. The dollar value represents what they will make as major leaguers (as they will have to remain on your ML roster all season.)

I'm confused because, for instance, one of the players I'm interested in possibly drafting is Jose Peraza and he is listed in the draft pool but his contract is currently 1m signed through the end of the current upcoming season. Looks like he was dfa'd recently....but contracts don't go back t o league minimum or just minor league contracts when you DFA a player correct?

Most players dfa would have minimum but it's possible to have a normal contract.

You sign a free agent to a 3 year deal at 4 million. He gets dfa and if he is eligible for rule 5 he contract still counts.

Its just not super usual

My guess, without seeing the history, is that at some point in his career he was given a Major League contract but was placed on a Minor League roster, thus never seeing major league time and making him Rule 5 eligible. TBH I’m not entirely sure about this particular player as it seems to be an outlier.

That is not what the dollar value in the screen shot means. Players taken in the Rule 5 draft get either the minimum or whatever their current contract says. The screen shot has dollar values attached to draft position, not to players.

If it were true that a player taken in the first round of the Rule 5 draft would get millions of dollars, no one would ever take a player in the Rule 5 draft. These are players whose current teams weren't even willing to put on the 40 man roster. No other team is going to pay them $2 million or more.

From reading from the help window it looks like those values may be if you are doing an inaugural draft. I'm just not 100% sure because it's not real clear about it.

The dollar amounts are irrelevant and should not be present for the Rule 5 draft. I noticed this as well, and I’m not sure it wasn’t done by design. Paging Matt...

Those dollar values shouldn't be there. They are irrelevant for the rule 5 draft
