A Ride Through Baseball History
I will be starting 1871 and will not manage a team. See how the baseball world stacks up from way back to today. The rules are simple. Inaugural draft with the players going to the greatness on whichever team they can excel. Each player will not develop according to the OOTP gods. But rather they will play how they played in real life. ex Babe Ruth will be a pitcher before he swings for the homerun gods. Financials will be automatically imported each year. Hall of Fame induction will be further down the line as well as the minor league. If anyone has and suggestions they will be considered.

1871 Season
Top 100 Prospects List Published Sunday, January 1st, 1871 The season is about to start, so it's time to publish the annual Top 100 Prospects list. This year 20-year-old second baseman Ross Barnes of the St. Louis Brown Stockings is the #1 prospect overall. Here is the top 10: 1) 2B Ross Barnes, 20, St. Louis Brown Stockings 2) SP Dick McBride, 23, Philadelphia Athletics 3) 3B Cap Anson, 18, Cleveland Forest Citys 4) SP Bobby Mathews, 19, Cleveland Forest Citys 5) SP Bill Stearns, 17, Cincinnati Reds 6) 3B Levi Meyerle, 21, Chicago White Stockings 7) SS George Wright, 23, Cincinnati Reds 8) C Cal McVey, 21, Chicago White Stockings 9) MR Frank Fleet, 22, Cincinnati Reds 10) C Fred Waterman, 25, Philadelphia Athletics Spring Training The Chicago White Stockings were hot during Spring Training finishing 23-1. They are led by Al Pratt, one of my favorite pitchers. Levi Meyrle and Cal McVey are also on the team. Looks like Whitestockings and Brown Stockings in the Series. Edit, I saw that the Athletics did not have a pitcher and looked and saw Dick McBride on the DL. I shortened his time to a week to give them a chance. I will do edits from time to time to keeps things going along and to make sure the big names get a chance at their real life numbers. I reset the injury setting to very low.

1871 Championship
World Series Sweep for Chicago Wednesday, October 11th, 1871 It was a glorious moment at Union Base-Ball Grounds when Chicago claimed the 1871 World Series title with a 11-8 victory. Chicago players were jubilant as they swamped each other on the diamond after completing the fantastic sweep of the Philadelphia Athletics. Chants of "Thank you, White Stockings" reverberated all around the ballpark when it was over. But in the losing dugout, sadness reigned. Commenting to reporters, the Athletics skipper described what it's like to lose. "Your heart is heavy... you are hurting... it's a very difficult time. And to be swept... it's embarrassing. You just want to forget it ever happened." But it was a season to remember for the Chicago White Stockings. Their season record was 20-10 and good enough for first place in the National League. Then they topped it off by winning the World Series 4-0. What a year!

Very cool . . . I'm thinking about doing something similar, but tweaking some things, like basing which cities get teams on actual population (city population through the 1940s, metro area population from the 1950s on, when radio, TV and easy day-to-day travel became relevant to the team's market, etc.).
Still debating whether or not to try to keep players with their real teams or not too. Would love to do something with independent minor leagues and promotion/relegation but still trying to figure out how to do that. Anyway, it's cool to see your league at work. Good luck with it. |
