Anyone else run into this?

So I pull off a multiplayer trade between my Denver Cougars and the Kansas City Comets. I trade 4 minor leaguers all pre-trade rated as 2 star potential plus a 2.5 star big league second baseman for a 3 star second baseman and a AA outfielder with 3.5 potential. Two days after the trade
(with new scouting occurring Jan.1) one of the minor leaguers I traded is
now 2.5 stars with 3.5 potential! The guy was in my minors system the last 2 years! My scouting director suddenly loves this minor league reliever after I trade him.
Crazy!

So, a few possibilities:
1) The guy you traded away just got a random talent change bump. Great for him, bad timing for you.
2) Now that he is in another organization, your scouting staff isn't seeing him as clearly as they did when he was in your organization. Now, granted, given the timing especially this one would feel very odd. Hey, he was a member of your organization for years and right up until a few days ago. Surely your scouting staff didn't forget everything they knew about him up until now. But I've always been under the impression that your scouting team/Head Scout has a more precise and accurate impression of players in your system than in other systems, and maybe the program doesn't have a way of differentiating when a player was just recently traded from your system to another.
Or, to sum up, perhaps he really isn't any better than he was before you traded him, but the scouting report is less accurate now.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Understandable.
But maybe wait and see how the player actually does and then you might forgive your scout.

The proof is in the pudding

Keep something in mind. Stars like any ratings gauge in OOTP is a tool to be used to approximate a players overall abilities. Although stars are more volatile than absolute numbers as they allow for a range of numbers. Use them as a guide and no more. As far as the players involved in your trade, none of them will look like they do now when they mature. You will see ups and downs in regards to their abilities, some more than others potentially. Especially if a random talent change hits. What TRULY matters is how these players perform on the field. I have many times seen lower rated players out perform higher rated ones for various reasons. Something I have learned about prospects (and I am sure that I am not alone on this one) is that they may have all the potential in the world but it doesn't mean a thing until they prove it in the bigs. I no longer covet those 5* prospects like I used to. Don't get me wrong, I still go after them and develop them. I just go into drafting, trading for, signing, etc those high ranked prospects with the realization that few of them will actually achieve their full potential. That goes for almost all prospects not just 5*.

I hope this helps. I saw that Birdwatcher gave you some good advice especially about scouting.

Have a Great night!

Now, oddly, I have the lyrics "it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing" stuck in my head.
And I suppose they could be relevant here too on a couple of levels.
1) As you point out, ratings, especially overall/potential star ratings, fluctuate a great deal over the course of a career, and especially while a player is still developing in the minors, and...
2) the proof, ultimately, is in the pudding. In other, also just to agree with what you said above, what they do on the field when they reach the big show is all that really matters. And ratings, particularly overall/potential ratings, are just reasonable guesses as to what that might look like, at best.
