My Historical Sim
Well I am going to attempt to do a historical sim. I have played around with it in the past, but am going to try to run through one with a blog attached to it. The history of the league(s) will try to somewhat stay close to the real deal, with some changes to fit the OOTP model a little bit. The pre-1901 season is not historically accurate 100%, but I will try my best to do it close enough.
In 1869, the previously amateur National Association of Base Ball Players, in response to concerns that some teams were paying players, established a professional category. The Cincinnati Red Stockings were the first team to declare their intention to become fully professional. Other teams quickly followed suit. By 1871, several clubs, wanting to separate fully from the amateur association, broke away to found the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players. Our league, the National Association (or NA from here on out) will consist of 10 teams playing a 32-game schedule. The Chicago White Stockings, Washington Nationals, Troy Haymakers, Philadelphia Athletics, Cleveland Forest Citys, Washington Olympics, Rockford Forest City, New York Mutuals, Ft. Wayne Kekiongas, and Boston Red Stockings will take part in the first professional season of baseball in American history. First things first, the inaugural draft. The historical logos and jersey are all thanks to txranger190. Talk about a collection he has put together. What a wonderful job well done. I encourage everyone looking to do a fictional league or historical one to check out his work. TxRanger190 Last edited by eck.nicholas; 04-25-2017 at 11:12 PM. |

To end my start to the sim, we have the draft. I will do a quick rundown on the first three rounds, nothing to in depth since I don't know much about the early pro ball days.
Note: I randomized the draft list 7 times to allow impartiality to any one team. It was set to a serpentine style draft. After the draft (115 picks), I filled the rosters with fictional players to allow the season to play out barring an entire injury disaster. Round 1 1. New York - Ross Barnes (SS) 2. Philadelphia - Levi Meyerle (3B) 3. Boston - Lip Pike (RF) 4. Rockford - Cal McVey (C) 5. Nationals - George Wright (SS) 6. Cleveland - Jimmy Wood (2B) 7. Ft. Wayne - Steve King (LF) 8. Olympics - John Bass (C) 9. Chicago - Ezra Sutton (C) 10. Troy - Cap Anson (3B) No pitchers taken in the first round. Weird since the 1870s had the pitchers that could go the distance. Round 2 1. Troy - George Hall (CF) 2. Chicago - Ed Pinkham (RF) 3. Olympics - George Zettlein (SP) 4. Ft. Wayne - Dave Eggler (CF) 5. Cleveland - Bobby Matthews (SP) 6. Nationals - Fred Treacey (CF) 7. Rockford - Dick Higham (RF) 8. Boston - Asa Brainard (SP) 9. Philadelphia - Al Spalding (SP) 10. New York - Deacon White (C) Round 3 1. New York - Gat Stires (RF) 2. Philadelphia - Dickie Flowers (SS) 3. Boston - Bill Craver (C) 4. Rockford - Fred Waterman (3B) 5. Nationals - Bill Stearns (SP) 6. Cleveland - Fergy Malone (C) 7. Ft. Wayne - George Bechtel (RF) 8. Olympics - Joe Start (1B) 9. Chicago - Cherokee Fisher (SP) 10. Troy - Jim Foran (1B) |

Tomorrow I will give a small rundown on the teams post-draft than we will have Opening Day. I will try to watch at least one game each game day while we have a small number of games.

I do to. I couldn't find an older style Nationals, so I used TxRangers fictional style Nationals one. |

You have fictional players mixed in with real ones. Intentional?

Yeah. It was intentional. It was just enough to fill the rosters, and get through the first few years of the early era. From here on out, the draft will consist of players joining in their proper first seasons.
