Idea for league

I want to do a league where every player who has a major league contract expires at the end of the season. What would be the easiest way to do it? Dump the files the day before free agency starts?

You can't do it. Players don't die in OOTP.

I don't want contract extensions. I basically want a free agent free for all.

Got the PM. Honestly though, I have no clue how to do this. As you said, the 1 year setting for free agency is a start but so far as I know there's no way to prevent players from signing multi-year contracts.

I really think you'd just need to manually hit the release all players/clear rosters button on the first day of free agency each offseason.

I was just about to post this. You can very easily dump the rosters of every team the day before free agency begins, but teams will still sign players to multi-year deals.

The ability to set a contract length limit might be a good suggestion for OOTP15.

Yeah, the answers given above are as good as I can think of. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I hate giving people false information and was unsure if there was a workaround or not. Glad in a way that I was correct and that the OP had the workaround already figured. Thanx for the quick response guys.

Do you want teams to be able to resign players to another year prior to free agency?

If so, you can just export rosters and delete all contract data past year 1. Takes 5 seconds.

If not, then just release everybody.

You can limit contracts to one year by checking the box for 'Reserve Clause Era Rules' and setting it to not allow multi-year contracts.

Yes, that would work. For OOTP 15 I'll add an option to limit contract length and disable extensions.

Alright, so what I wanted to do, didn't work. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, hopefully OOTP 15 can fix it.
