No Gold or above Team advice needed
Been working on a lvl 79 and lower team and I'm running into some questions. I tried the all defense team, but they couldn't hit their weight even though the pitching and defensive numbers were through the roof. Missed the Silver level playoffs by a couple games. I've added some offense at the corners and in left, along with adding a second catcher with excellent defense and they split time depending on the pitching their against. Who can I still think about adding? I don't have the 78 Ozzie yet. Are there any split platooners I could be thinking about? Any pitching changes I should make? Thank you in advance.

I'd definitely trade out whichever catch you like less for a LHB catcher (I've found Darrell Porter to be decent) and run catcher as a platoon. No real reason to roster two catchers that bat with the same hand, especially if it's not one of the all time great hitting catchers. I'd also dump a relief pitcher for another bat in the lineup, as you've got two guys with 6 IP in 40 games.

Joe Medwick (76OVR), Paul Waner (76OVR Historical Legend) are good platoon options - Medwick v LHP, Waner v RHP.
Definitely Martinez in the rotation. RHP Andrew Chafin - 106 movement vs LHP. 77OVR Bill Terry is another option at 1B - he can hit both LHP and RHP - he won the batting title for me my first season in diamond. Nellie Fox is a decent option at 2B. I still have Tom Burgmeier, Hector Rondon on my reserve roster as bullpen options. Either bronze Dan Quisenberry is a solid option - great movement and control, groundball pitcher. 64OVR Matty Alou can be trained up to be a decent corner outfielder and has Ichiro-like contact but with really good gap power.

Nice catchers. I had Mattingly, but he couldn't hit for me. Maybe replace him. I had mcreynolds at cf then replace him with maddox. maddox has been a real difference maker for me. you need to upgrade the heart of your order. maybe jd martinez.

here is the team that is competing in the Perfect mini-whale league for me.
I also like RP Adam Cimber as a specialist for Right Handed guys. He is very cheap and has crazy platoon stats. I don't have any experience with Rose (71) as my DH. I am testing him this season instead of Dan Murphy. Also testing Paul O'Neill but I may have to go back from Medwick/Garr/Victorino. I try to make sure all my outfielders have very high defensive ratings. If they don't have high defensive stats (Enos Slaughter), I make sure I have a defensive backup that can get rotated in once we get ahead in the game. Gilliam (2B) /Simmons (Util) /Pesky (3B) are trained to all infield positions so you can have Simmons start (vs LHPs) and give rest to someone else. Put Richie Ashburn into CF and forget about that position. take a look at the screen shot of my seasons in Perfect League. Last edited by joehart; 02-26-2019 at 10:05 PM. |

You have a nice team, many of the same silver cards that I've found usable at least through Gold, plus a handful (like Andrelton Simmons) who can fill roles at Diamond.
If you are willing to sacrifice a little defense in exchange for more pop in your middle infield, look at Al Dark (good vs. R, mediocre at SS, but has a 800+ OPS vs. LHP) or Willy Adames (OPS 750+ against both LP and RP, better at 2B than at SS). Jody Davis is a bronze C that I keep buying more expensive catcher cards to replace him, but he always works his way back onto the active roster, strong defensive metrics and especially good hitter vs. LP, mediocre vs. RP. In the outfield, Shane Victorino is especially good vs. RP and can be trained to high levels at all 3 OF positions. The 77 OVR Pete Rose card can play everyday, but is better as a DH than as a corner OF, where his zone ratings are not good. If you are looking for additional pitchers, Bob Ojeda has won ERA crowns for me at Silver and Gold levels, and Sixto Sanchez has also been solid through Gold, although I wouldn't use him at Diamond and above due to his low MOV rating. |

I would consider adding Johnny Pesky and train him at 2b as a possible platoon with Vizquel. Pesky hits RHP much better than Vizquel.

Simmons more than fills a role, a star player in my diamond league seasons. |

Just a little update....I've made the World Series in my Silver league, even though the team i'm playing is kinda loaded so not holding my breath. Thank you so much for all the useful input and a special shout out to DonkeyKongJr for his ops/obp chart, which was of the utmost use. Crossing my fingers and i'll see some of you in gold tomorrow

2011 Jose Reyes is a 79. He has a career .310 average for me, and averages 42 steals/season. I'm in Gold.

A few seasons later, I find my All-Silver team in the Diamond Playoffs. Made the championship last season in Gold. Sad Sam just threw a gem to tie up the second round....

Eddie Collins has been great for me, one of the few silvers still hanging around my lineup.
