HR: Fullmer 12, Anderson 4, Pujols 9. Player of the game: The Angels' Brad Fullmer was 2 for 4 with a homer - a three-run shot in the first., part of a four-run inning off Dan Haren -- with a run scored and the three RBIS.

Player of the game: Cardinals starting pitcher tossed a two-hitter as St. Louis put the end to an eight-game losing streak. Carpenter struck out 10 and walked just one.

Player of the game: The Cardinals' Edgar Renteria was 5 for 5 with a run scored and two RBIs. Albert Pujols was 4 for 5 with three doubles, a home run, three runs scored and an RBI. Reggie Sanders was 2 for 5 with a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Cardinals send Lincoln down, bring back Shere

Looking to add a bat to the bench, the Cardinals have recalled IF/OF Floyd Shere from AAA Chandler. Right-handed reliever Mike Lincoln will make a return trip to AAA.

W: Reyes 2-2, 5.73. L: Chapman 3-1, 1.98. Sv: Isringhausen 19. 3.24. HR: Sanders 11, Marshall 3, Szczur 12.
Player of the game: Cardinals starting pitcher Jeff Suppan went five innings, allowing five runs on three hits. He whiffed five and walked two.
Five relievers combined to shut out Chicago over the final four innings as the Cardinals overcame a 5-1 deficit.

Player of the game: Cubs starting pitcher Zach Montalvo allowed one run on seven hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out five and walked none.
Kris Bryant hit a two-run home run off Cardinals starting pitcher Jason Marquis in the bottom of the fourth inning to break up a scoreless game.

Note: Picking David Wright over Scott Rolen as the second third baseman is a crime.
Wright is batting .306 with 12 HRs and 49 RBIs and a WAR of 2.3.
Rolen, who tops all the third base fielding stats, is hitting .307 with 14 HRs and 60 RBIs and a WAR of 4.2.
Fricking East Coast bias.

Cardinals set to host Padres; sign reliever Casilla, bring Womack off DL

The Cardinals will open the post-All-Star break portion of their schedule with a three-game series at Busch Stadium against the San Diego Padres.
In other news, St. Louis has signed right-handed reliever Santiago Casilla. He has been assigned to AAA Chandler.
Also, injury second baseman Tony Womack is come off the disabled list after being sidelined since May 2 with a broken hand. He will play a few games at AAA Chandler before being called up.
