No Hitter - No Chance

My closest foray into a no-hitter.....Broken up by a 42 year old 1B who is somehow defying age and the usual rapid decline of players who reach age 37.

I was so tempted to walk him. My pitcher was TIRED though....would you have walked him???

Honestly, a guy hitting .274 with 24 HR's and 66 RBI's ... followed by a .153 hitter ...

I guess I would have walked him ... but okay, that's second-guessing

It's second guessing now, but that is exactly what I would have looked at in that situation. The perfect game was gone long ago (already had 5 walks). We have a 6 run lead. Yes, walk him and pitch to Salazar.

It's bad mojo to walk a batter intentionally when you're one out away from a no-hitter.

Depends on the contents of their bench, to be honest. Rather have him face the right-hander than walk him and run into a left-handed .275 pinch-hitter afterwards.

I believe in what Joe said, though. By walking him, you might have angered the baseball gods just as well.

But I am talking down on you here, my team leads all franchises in no-hitters with four (league is in its 24th year). The amazing thing is that only one of those came from an actually second-rate-great franchise pitcher, one from a former ace on a 1-year stop on the way to retirement, and two from total pushovers with career records under .400 and both of those in a season where the team was playing .400 ball as well.

Conclusion: your team is too good! Break it down to get no-hitters! If you rebuild it, they will come!

Funny that you mention mojo. That is precisely why I did not walk him. I felt certain that if I did the next guy would Single up the middle.

This pitcher started out the year one and nine and has won 9 consecutive starts.

So close yet so far. Just as an aside the next batter did get a base hit and then I kept him in and he retired the last batter with a strikeout to preserve the shutout

I'd hit him, no need to further tire your starter by throwing 4 pitches.

An intentional walk here would be pretty awful. You would be ripped by the media and the other team.

You won the game. Don't get greedy.

Yep, save your pitcher 3 pitches and you can say to the media that it was an accident and you weren't just avoiding him
