Start historic, go fictional

I'd like to start a universe with a historic season (1980) but then use feeders to slowly let the league become fictional. That is, I don't want to import real players as the league evolves.

To test how this might work, I created an entirely fictional universe but imported 20 real players from 1980 (neutralized stats) to see how they'd compare to the fictional players. The results were.... disappointing! Essentially, the 1980s hitters completely dominated the league. Like it wasn't even close, they led the league in average (some over .400), homers (by more than 10), etc.

I then did two things:
1) Created a historic season with all 1980s players (neutralized stats)
2) Compared the fictional ratings from my fictional universe to the neutralized ratings from the 1980 historic neutralized universe

The results were, again, .... disappointing!! The 1980 hitters were quite a bit higher, on average, in every category except for Power. For example, the average hitter from the neutralized 1980 universe had a 131 rating for Avoid K while the fictional universe hitters averaged 91.

The pitchers were actually way worse. The 1980 pitchers averaged a 184 for Movement (!!) while the fictional pitchers averaged 69.

So I guess my questions are:
1) Has anyone ever started a universe with a historic season and slowly let it become fictional? If so, did the original players dominate the league and the record books??
2) What is up with neutralized historic seasons? I expected the average ratings to somewhat match up but it's not even close. For example, in 1980 Mike Krukow posted a 4.39 era which was about 10% worse than the league average. His neutralized overall Movement rating in the historic league is 195 which is higher than any of the fictional players created when I set up the original totally fictional league.

In conclusion, based on what I'm seeing, I don't think it's possible to start a universe with a real, historic season and let it go fictional as I don't think the "Base Current Ratings on Neutralized Stats" functionality is working correctly. If it was, the average ratings for the players in the league would be about the same as any random fictional league created from scratch.

Thanks for any feedback!
