Can't feel too bad about Mickey; he's earning $1 million next year while he job searches or just vacations.
The word is the Mets are looking for a seasoned manager now, one who is better at handling the media and managing games. Joe Girardi and Buck Showalter have been mentioned . . .

If the Mets don't spend the money to get Girardi, I'd rather they hire from within and name Edgardo Alfonzo manager. I believe he just won a New York-Penn League title with the Brooklyn Cyclones. He knows New York, having played for the Mets for the majority of his career, and he'd be a great fit for the younger players.

During Game 1 of the Rays-Astros tilt Girardi confirmed that he will stay with the broadcast crew for the duration of the series when the impending Mets (and others) vacancy came up. Which doesn't sound like somebody not going to talk to people.
First, I don't want him anywhere near my Metsies. Second, I'm inclined to think he'd take less **** from Brodie Van Waffletown, which can only be good for the Metsies.

I wonder if the source that I read knew what he was talking about; i.e., BVW and Wilpons wanting a highly experienced manager. Maybe the Wilpons but I would think BVW, being inexperienced and shaky himself, would want somebody with even less experience than him. Who knows? We'll find out soon.

It's Carlos Beltran.

Yes, "multiple reports" have Carlos Beltran as the next New York Mets manager. First of all, time flies. It seems like only a little while ago that he was playing for the Mets! (Actually, he was traded to the Giants for Zack Wheeler in July 2011.)
He is "widely regarded for his baseball acumen" but he's another guy with no managing or even coaching experience that I know of. Also, I remember something about Beltran and the Wilpons not being on the friendliest of terms when he played in New York. Oh yeah, this is what I was thinking about, deep down in this article: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2...offs-curveball Here's the excerpt from that interview: Quote:

I don't have anything against Carlos Beltran.
But, I'm gonna say it, Girardi would have been better. Why the flying **** can't the Mets hire a guy that knows the **** what he's doing?? Why?? Ugh!! This team!!

Some pretty compelling stuff in there about Beltran- not only regarding his leadership capabilities but his great baseball acumen as well. Granted, he is inexperienced, and this might not work out (it often takes some failure and a few firings before a manager becomes truly great) but Beltran doesn't seem like a bad choice at all to me.

We've just been through a guy that never managed before and was lauded to have all the smarts when he took the job. He kept ****ing up endlessly for two years, probably cost the Mets an actual wild card in '19 and was just unceremoniously fired, and now they take the next guy that has never managed before and is lauded to have all the smarts as he takes the job.
Nope, not buying it.

This could mean a great deal to you guys if it works out:
Billionaire financier Steven A. Cohen makes a pitch for the Mets He's not a saint, as you will see in the article, but he could be a big spender.

Not all spending is equal though; the A's and Ray's don't spend a lot yet are playing games quite often in October.

Cespedes, quoted recently: "I’m ready and I’m going to go out with a bang this year and I’m not just going to hit 40 home runs. I’ll be out there for 140-plus games." I'm tempted to give that one of these: but let's think positively, shall we?
EDIT: Whoa on the rest of that article. "Yoenis Cespedes recently agreed to a huge pay cut to settle a contract dispute with the Mets . . . who agreed to reduce his 2020 salary from $29.5 million to about $10 million (with performance-based incentives that will give him the opportunity to earn back some of the rest). He also took a cut in his 2019 salary from $29 million to $14.8 million." Since when does that kind of thing happen? A cut in pay for an injured player? What was the contract dispute? EDIT 2: Okay, here's the answer, "he suffered multiple fractures to his right ankle in an accident at his Florida ranch this past May . . . The contract restructuring was a product of the Mets taking issue with Cespedes suffering a non-baseball injury. It was approved by Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association." Interesting. An injury is not just an injury but how and where it happened. I guess this has always been the case but it's still new to me.

I see where that is coming from; given that he was not well enough to play baseball, but literally well enough to feel like horsing around.
Now the question is, does anybody in New York even want him back? Where does he even play given that we sold the farm for friggin' JAKE MARISNICK...

The details continue to be revealed and refined:
"Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes’ base salary in 2020 was cut to $6 million from its original $29.5 million as part of an amended contract with the club that avoided a grievance hearing, according to details obtained by The Associated Press. Cespedes, however, would raise his pay to $11 million if he has one active day on the major- league roster and to $20 million if he has 650 plate appearances . . . He hasn’t played since July 20, 2018, and has topped 321 plate appearances just once since 2015." What a waste of money. I don't blame the Mets in the least and I think the previous article said the MLBPA approved these actions. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseb...ies-1.39714481

I think you guys will be glad that you signed Dellin Betances. He was caught in a logjam over here and he's better than anybody you currently have in your bullpen. It's amusing to see that the Mets got Betances with money that they saved on Cespedes. That ranch accident may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

I'm very pleased with the Betances signing, immediate upgrade to the C+ level bullpen.

Just saw that the Mets invited Tim Tebow to spring training 32 years old hit .163 in AAA last year
I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

I mean, I try to get leaders for my minor league teams to potentially help the prospects too, so I can't laugh at him too much, I guess

That was a farce four years ago, it's still a farce now.
