The only head shot I have of Bullock with the Astros is this tiny grainy B&W thing.
There are some nice Astro B&W of him posted by Terry D and tnfoto. Not sure if those would work for you. Hopefully, someone has something better in their bag o' tricks, but, 'cause I was in a mood today... I did a quickie conversion of Eric's 1987 Jones Photo Toros postcard. Oddly enough, I found an auction of Eric's 1986 Astros jersey on line, so I customized him using his own jersey (I love it when a plan comes together). Kind of screwed up the clouds a bit, but you can crop those out. And the uni should be a tad less white and a tad more grey. But, otherwise... I wish making him over into a Met were so easy. I've just got one good sized B&W of Eric as a Met and he's capless. |

1980s Pirates Uniform Variations 1: John Candelaria, 1985
From 1976 through 1984, the Pirates wore the famous black-white-and-gold mix and match double-knit uniform with the pillbox style caps. They simplified this a bit in 1985, dropping the black and gold jerseys and pants and going with a white strip for home and a gray one for the road while retaining the pillbox cap. For 1987, they got rid of the pillbox cap and adopted a more orthodox cap style. These style changes followed each other so quickly that it isn't easy to get all the Pirate players of those years in the different styles. John Candelaria was the Pirate ace almost throughout the pillbox cap era. In 1985, manager Chuck Tanner (the Kid Gleason of the 1980s) moved Candy to the bullpen briefly. Candelaria was traded later in the season to the Angels as part of the opening stage of a much-needed Pittsburgh rebuilding plan. Here is Candelaria early in 1985, wearing the gray road colors. I was looking for such photos for quite a while.

1980s Pirates Uniform Variations 2: Bill Madlock, 1985
Bill Madlock was a fine hitter who captured a number of NL batting titles but by the mid-80s he was starting to fade and during the 1985 season the Pirates elected to cash him in, trading Mad Dog to the Dodgers for two younger players, 1B Sid Bream and OF R.J. Reynolds. Here is Madlock early in 85 in the Pittsburgh road grays.

1980s Pirates Uniform Variations 3: Don Robinson, 1987
Righthander Don Robinson was a pretty good pitcher for over a decade, or at least he was whenever he wasn't suffering from a chronic elbow problem. In 1987 the SF Giants were closing in on their first title of any kind since 1971, and GM Al Rosen wanted experienced pitching help for the stretch so he sent catcher Mackey Sasser and pitcher Jim Gott to Pittsburgh for Don Robinson, with Rick Reuschel also going from Pittsburgh to SF in a separate deal. Here are two shots of Don Robinson in the new 1987 Pirate uniform with the standard cap which replaced the pillbox. The black and white comes from ebay seller Beliveau while the color shot comes from mainlineautographs.

1978 Mets
Looking for images (color only please) of Bob Myrick, Tom Hausman and Willie Montanez in the Mets' new-for-1978 unis (the pullovers). Don't need anything that's already on a card, and I've seen the photo of Montanez that's on eBay now, but it won't work for my project. Thanks!

Herm Wehmeier - Phillies RHP -1955 Topps card # 29
This may tip my age off, but this Herm Wehmeier was almost certainly among the
first cards I ever bought and opened from packs as a kid, when I was about to turn 6 (Spring or Summer 1955). With it's bright blue background and sharp colors it was hard to forget. Wehmeier went 92-108 in 13 major league seasons (1945, 1947-1958). He went 20-22 for the Phillies between 1954 and 1956. Last edited by KenRaffensberger16; 03-21-2016 at 12:11 PM. |

If you had any doubts that spring is here--and I know some places saw a bit of snow over the weekend--the Vault posted their first baseball images to their auction helper spot in many months today.

Personally, I'm content to wait until Topps identifies them (and I'm lousy at this game anyway), but I don't think it looks remotely like Bob Didier.
There were 4 images of the gent in question posted--2 with the White Sox (both with the need for Visine; IOW 1965 or before) and 2 with the Braves with the shown uni (thus '68 or after). Or maybe they're different players (still don't think it looks like Didier). My best guess? Well, Dave Nicholson fits the timeline, but wasn't a catcher. Duane Josephson was a catcher, but was never a Brave (so far as I can tell). That leaves Buddy Booker, but i thought Booker had darker hair. So, basically, I haven't got a clue. And I'm fine with that. Knock yourself out. |

Yet Another Obscure Braves Catcher...
OK, so Didier was a reflex shot, first reaction. Upon further review...
With all of the Burnside images in this small sample, I have been trying to find some photo of Braves minor league catcher John Burns, who was at Double-A in 1969-70. Would fit the bill. Conversely, the White Sox catcher is almost certainly William Burns, who caught in the Chicago system from 1963-1966. Time will tell, but back-to-back Burnses is probably no coincidence. |

It Burns
These are not the same player. The White Sox catcher is Bill Burns (1963-1966: William Burns Register Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com) and the Braves catcher is John Burns (1968-1969: John Burns Register Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com).
Bill Burns has previously been posted by Topps, in August, 2014. |
