MY LIFE IN 1952
EC's Just Havin' Fun in '52, Too! My, Oh, My... how times does fly... I just had my 12th birthday a few weeks ago... forgot to tell you... Yep, EC has been around a dozen years now... and just what have I accomplished in those 12 glorious years?.. well now, let's see... my granddaddy loves me... my grandma loves me... they think I'm special... not sure I agree... in my first 12 years I didn't have any grandkids yet, so I have no idea of what it's like... my Mama loves me almost all of the time, but there are times when I make it tough for her to love me, but she still does... Mamas love us unconditionally, don't they? Surely, I have accomplished something in 12 glorious years of life... let's see, is there anything I do well? I'm really good at going to the movies... saw Fort Apache with John Wayne 11 times so far... I'm really good at reading comic books... and I'm really good at listening to the radio and learning the words to all the big songs so I can sing along with them... also very good at reading the sports pages in the newspaper... EC knows his baseball, football and basketball... come to think of it, I have accomplished something in my 12 glorious years of life... EC is a darn good student in school... always got straight A's on my report card, if you don't count conduct... sometimes got B's and C's when it came to behaving... not bragging, but yes, EC was always the best student, boy or girl, in my classes... sorry, little darlin's, yes, I made better grades than the gals, too... EC may not have been smarter than the ladies, but I did indeed make better grades... yowser, yowser, yowser. (from the 1970s... and I don't really know what it means, either). To advance EC's education and to help those of you that are somewhat semantically unblessed, "yowser" can mean "Yikes!" or "Holy Cow!"... it is grammatically speaking an exclamation... has several other possible meanings, but I like the exclamation explanation... could refer to a beautiful woman ("Yowser, she is something else... a knockout")... also used in the neighborhood as an expression "Yowser, Bro... what's happening?" Enough about EC... let's see what the whole wide USA is listening to on the radio... the last time I covered country music Webb Pierce had the number one song on the Billboard country chart with "Wondering"... he hit number one on March 1 and stayed there 4 weeks... on March 29 Carl Smith topped him with "When You Feel Like You're in Love, Don't Just Stand There". So little darlin's and buckaroos, let's give Carl Smith a real big spin on the old turntable. Just click on the arrow on the record... the first listed is the best recording. https://www.bing.com/search?q=if+you...6c81393e80df46 Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-09-2020 at 07:57 PM. |

Monday, May 5, 1952 GREEN GIANTS UPENDED, JACKS CLOSE BEHIND The North Island First tightened up a little bit when third place Dutton knocked off the top team in the league, the Joliet Green Giants... the Coyotes just barely beat them 1-0... the second place Jackson Jackalopes climbed closer, but they had a close call from the Kofa Kings... the Jacks held on for a 7-6 victory and are now just a game out of the top spot... and in a battle of also-rans Avalon whipped New Yerby 7-2. |

Monday, May 5, 1952 CHAOS ABOUND IN SI FIRST LEAGUE The chaotic four-way first-place tie in the scrunched-up South Island First League has abated a little, at least for the time being... two of the co-leaders were beaten this past weekend... and two of them were winners... Opelousas and Labadieville were victorious and remained in the top spot, while Claiborne and Des Allemands dropped back in the pack... still, only two games separate the co-leaders from the cellar. The Opelousas Lions had a tough time with Bar Harbor, but beat them 7-6... the Labadieville Pelicans had the tougher assignment, but they managed to outscore the Claiborne Cardinals 10-7... and Des Allemands fell to the Mystic Mariners 4-2. |

Monday, May 5, 1952 GATORS TOP SISL AT MIDYEAR Halfway through the South Island Second League inaugural season the Guedon Gators are in a feeding frenzy after 10 games... the Gators top the league standings, but not by much... it's still anybody's ballgame... Guedon (7-3) is up by one game over the Meraux Tigers (6-4) and two ahead of the Delacroix Cubs (5-5) and Chitamaca Moccasins (5-5)... pennant hopes for the other two clubs, St. Dominic (4-6) and Bayou Bleu (3-7) are getting dimmer and dimmer as each weekend goes by. Guedon is riding high after a close call in Chitamaca... the Gators came back in the late innings to subdue the Moccasins 6-5... Meraux toppled Delacroix 10-6 and Bayou Bleu got the best of St. Dominic 5-4. |
