Thanks to Ortforshort for the Phillies customs. I very much appreciate him creating the cards for players who there are no Topps or Bowman cards for and obscure guys who were only Phillies for a few games like Van Dusen, Kennedy, Mason, Command, Lipetri and Drake. Granny Hamner pictured as a pitcher is a hoot. I Also appreciate the new cards/photos of the two oldest living Phillies: Wally Westlake (96) and Solly Hemus (94).

There was already a good color pic of Fernandez with the Phillies

Bob Smith?
I think the Bob Smith under Red Sox 02 is Catcher Robert Smith, who appeared on the 1936 Red Sox spring roster. The exemplar I have for that catcher is not very good, but it looks somewhat like him. It certainly is not pitcher Bob "Riverboat" Smith of the 1958 Red Sox (who is shown in Red Sox 01) or pitcher Robert G. Smith of the 1956 Red Sox.

Bob Smith
Ort, I tried to explain that I understand that the two Bob Smiths are different guys. I'm not questioning Red Sox 01 Bob Smith. That's clearly Bob "Riverboat" Smith of the 1958 Red Sox. Instead, I think that Red Sox 02 Bob Smith is not Robert G. Smith of the 1956 Red Sox (and later the Pirates). Look at the comparison below with a straight-on shot of Robert G. Smith. Robert G. has a narrower and more elongated facial structure. Furthermore, his right ear sticks out farther than does that of the Bob Smith in your card. I've also attached my lousy shot of the 1936 spring roster catcher Robert Smith. There certainly isn't much detail, but the facial structure is much closer. Also, consider the wooden slats in the background of your photo. They appear to come from an earlier era.

Robert G Smith
Here are two other looks at Robert Gilchrist Smith, one a different shot with Boston and another with the Tigers... to my eyes, the outlier is whoever it is on the '58 Topps card.

As much as I suck at this game, I know my Mets. And it's dead obvious to me that the gent on the '58 Topps card is outfielder Bobby Gene Smith. Just sayin'.
